I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him.
Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the
Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked,
"What are all those clocks?"
St. Peter answered, "Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a
Lie-Clock. Every time you lie the hands on your clock will move."
"Oh," said the man, "Whose clock is that?" "That's Mother Teresa's.
The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie."
"Incredible," said the man. "And whose clock is that one?" St. Peter
responded, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have moved
twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his entire life."
"Where's George Bush's clock?" asked the man.
"Bush's clock is in Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan."
~~~~~~~~~~

Two bone weary public servants were working their little hearts and souls out. Their department was just too busy for staff to be able take flex. But there had to be a way...
One of the two public servants suddenly lifted his head. "I know how to get some time off work" the man whispered.

"How?" asked the second worker.

Instead of answering, the man quickly looked around. No sign of his Director. He jumped up on his desk, kicked out a couple of ceiling tiles and hoisted himself up. "Look!" he hissed, then swinging his legs over a metal pipe, hung upside down.

Within seconds, the Director emerged from the Branch Head's office at the far end of the floor. He saw the worker hanging from the ceiling, and asked him what on earth he thought he was doing.

"I'm a light bulb" answered the public servant.

"I think you need some time off," barked the Director. "Get out of here - that's an order - and I don't want to see you back here for at least another two days! You understand me?"

"Yes sir", the public servant answered meekly, then jumped down, logged off his computer and left.

The second worker was hot on his heels.

"Where do you think you're going?" the boss asked.

"Home," he said lightly. "I can't work in the dark."

Ben and Haley had gotten up in years, and their memories weren't quite what they used to be. They found it beneficial to write things down so as not to forget them.

One evening they were sitting in the parlor and Haley said, "Ben, be a dear and go to the kitchen and fix me a dish of ice cream and put some chocolate syrup and peanuts on it. And, Ben, write it down so you don't forget the peanuts."

"That's a good idea, Dear." Ben said, and wrote it on the notepad and headed for the kitchen.

Ben was in the kitchen for a while, and returned with a plate of bacon and eggs. Haley looked at it and said, "Oh Ben, you forgot the breakfast toast."

A young man saw an elderly couple sitting down to lunch at McDonald's. He noticed that they had ordered one meal, and an extra drink cup. As he watched, the gentleman carefully divided the hamburger in half, then counted out the fries, one for him, one for her, until each had half of them. Then he poured half of the soft drink into the extra cup and set that in front of his wife. The old man then began to eat, and his wife sat watching, with her hands folded in her lap.

The young man decided to ask if they would allow him to purchase another meal for them so that they didn't have to split theirs.

The old gentleman said, "Oh no. We've been married 50 years, and everything has always been and will always be shared, 50/50."

The young man then asked the wife if she was going to eat, and she replied, "It's his turn with the teeth."

A man died in a horrible fire. The mortician thought it was George, but the body was so badly burned that somebody would need to make a positive identification. That task fell to George's two friends, Joe and Al.

Joe: "He's burnt pretty bad, all right. Roll him over." Joe looked at the dead man's buttocks and said, "Nope, that ain't George."

Thinking the incident strange, the mortician straightened up the body and said nothing. He brought in Al.

Al: "Wow, he's burnt to a crisp. Roll him over." Again, "Nope, that ain't George."

Mortician: "How can you tell?"

Al: "George had two butt holes."

Mortician: "What? How could he have two butt holes?"

Al: "Everybody knew George had two butt holes. Whenever the three of us would go into town you'd hear people say, "Here comes George with those two butt holes!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A man is driving on a city bus with a newspaper on his knee. From time to time, he rips a piece off, ripping that piece into smaller ones and throwing them out the window. A passenger standing near him asks:
-Excuse me, why are you throwing pieces of paper out the window?
-I'm chasing away the elephants
-Chasing elephants? There aren't elephants in the city.
-Well that means it's working!
Good morning everyone. To all here and all who follow, have a Great Hump day. Wrapped Christmas presents yesterday, will finish the wrapping today. Christmas cards mailed Tuesday. Outside lights and decorations, and inside of the house decorated when we got back from California. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Danish, Bacon Sandwiches, and Hot Chocolate in the NC. winter
I'm in mourning. My aged cat, Spot, 20+ years and totally deaf and getting Dementia, was sleeping happily in her tent on the front porch night before last at 10:30pm. Next morning, she was gone. I looked all over, checked with the neighbors even though she NEVER leaves the yard, and found nothing. It rained all night so she wouldn't have wandered. Ominous signs just outside the tent on the porch were some tiny bits of fur, and signs of a scuffle. I am almost sadly, positive, that a HUGE raccoon that I saw earlier in the evening eating at the communal food table took her.
Raccoons don't usually hunt cats, We've had raccoons eating with the cats and possums at the same table since 2003, but this raccoon was HUGE. Never saw it before, might have been pregnant or a new mom. She was very skittish. Poor spot, who is mostly white would have looked like a small rabbit (only 4 pounds all her life) and I think the raccoon just grabbed her out of the tent and ran off. Since she was deaf, she wouldn't have heard the raccoon coming.
I'm really sad, but that's nature. Feral cats, no matter how old they live, don't have a chance sometimes. Poor Spot. I expected her to go quietly in her sleep. I never heard a scuffle or a cry, so it had to be quick. Huge muddy raccoon prints going across the porch were the final piece of the puzzle.
One of the other ferals sat on the porch all day yesterday, alerting me to something wrong. She never sits on the porch. I guess they all know what happened.
Missing her, hoping it was quick. Poor Spot kitty RIP.
Oh sorta, that's so sad. Let's hope her death was quick. You're going to miss her so much Why don't you take some time off today for her -do you have her picture. Everybody who has pets goes through this. Hugs.
My opossums (3) are doing just superduuper and they should. Fancy Feast wet and dry food, turkey, homemade New York cornbread and Amish noodles in turkey broth and grapes and apples. Although right now they're kinda tiffed because I possum-proufed the kitchen cupboards. They truly enjoyed rearrainging the lower cupboards but I didn't so I explained since I pay the taxes and insurance around here I can lock up the cupboards. they are a joy. One appears every AM while I'm feeding the kits and she just sits there and stares at me until she gets her dish. And then she lets me pet her.
Joe, take good care of all your kittys and others
Hugs, Sorta
So sorry to hear that Sorta, I hope that maybe she wandered away and will be back. sad
Yankee, is rabies a risk by you? I just get afraid of getting nicked by them and contracting something. I think it's too cool to have them get along with you so well though. hearts
L4L, enjoy your dog run!
Gail, Darlene, Gerry, and Sue have a wonderful day!
Connie, want to come help me decorate? lol I'm waiting for daughter and niece to come help.
Nan, can't wait to see you! Have a safe trip. yay
Sigh. I'm missing my OLD kitty but have to keep reminding myself that it's one less can of food a day. There are good points and bad, mostly I just miss seeing her here all the time. Hope the baby raccoons grow big and strong on her meager meat. Oh well. Other ferals are still spooked, especially Orange (the one who lives on the other side of the road). He's really jumpy. I have to stand with him and pet him as he eats. He had a new ouchie on the side of his neck. Looks like 'something' got him but he's big and strong and would definitely fight back.
Sister and 'almost' brother in law visited today. I get to see my sister once a year (it's a joke I have with her). We went thrifting and ate at Black Angus on my coupons. I figured maybe they would treat me, but nope. Oh well. I actually ended up kicking in a few extra bucks for the tip because with a coupon, the waitress doesn't get a fair share. AND we had to take MY car. Dunno why but he has a huge huge truck (pulls a 5th wheel) and I guess it's hard to park. Worked out OK as it was so funny watching my 'large' sister trying to get in and out of the back seat of my Mitsubishi Eclipse. No room there so she had to 'back' out. People were laughing as well as me as the huge backside wiggled out. Very funny. rotfl She's got a great sense of humor so it was laughs all around.
Now back to my regularly scheduled mourning for poor Spot Kitty. cry
Back from our regular Bible Study. It went late, so pups are just now getting fed. Good thing they are flexible fellas. Off to bed with me.
Hugs to you, Sorta.
Hope the soreness passes soon, Ana wave
