think

I stumbled over some info about this new game "The Talos Principle".

By the looks and info, it sounds like a real A+ game so I would like to know if there are any "Boomers" playing it think

If thats the case, your thoughts about it would be greatly appreciated thumbsup12.

Cheers

I hope you get some replies. I just read a review of the game and it sounds very interesting - but probably too difficult for me! grin12

I remember looking at this - but isn't it an "action" game think ??

Lagavulin, there's a free Public Test Demo that everyone who's interested should try. It took me about an hour to get through. The puzzles are challenging but fair. What the overall story is remains a mystery to me though:) However, the narrator's god like proclamations and the info you get from checking out the computer terminals pulls you in.

Here's a quote from a previous thread we had here on GameBoomers, describing games at Gamescom 2014:

Quote:
The Talos Principle
A first person photo-realistic Adventure game judging by what I saw. This is a
game worth noting because of the involvement of Jonas Kyratzes who has done a
number of significant and thoughtful indie games. He describe this as a
philosophical point and click Adventure game.

I don't know if there are any "action" elements...

I started to read a review but was "put off" by ....

"Genre: Action, Adventure, Indie Publisher: Devolver Digital Release Date: Fall 2014"

I'd better go and read a full review !! rolleyes12

Great I've missed that info hardwall

Will look it up and try it out bravo12

As far as I know the "lasers" in the game are connected to the puzzlez and not some "killing streak" action.

Cheers sherlock

I looked into this game, saw some trailers, and I've decided that THIS one is NOT for me. Also, I think that the price for this game is way out of line. That, my fellow Boomers is my not so humble opinion.

Hey! I'm bumping this... the game seems to be a masterpiece judging by metacritic, but it seems like most user here did not even survive to play it!

Did anyone play the game in the meantime and can summarize a couple of its traits? I'm asking here because I'm interested to know how an adventure fan sees the game (although god knows our tastes differ!)

Thanks
Tomer

The reviews are overwhelmingly positive as you can see here. Unfortunately the price tag makes it a bit hard to purchase and try out right now. It sounds worth it though.

Unfortunately positive metacritic reviews always make me wonder about how much dexterity is required.

You're probably better off flipping through a YouTube playthrough like this series to get an idea of gameplay (as opposed to going by anyone's recommendations)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZ4z1765Mb8&list=PLaDGtkBY6zFmMx75bBmYCTHRBoXjPwTbc&index=4

Even for adventure gamers without motion sickness problems, there are "puzzles" that require timing and dexterity -- and some are apparently quite difficult, even for gamers who normally play action-oriented genres. This is not a game where you can "reduce" motion sickness by moving slowly or looking away from the screen while it is in motion -- some "puzzles" require that you move around and interact quickly.

I have played the game and completed all the optional puzzles and enjoyed it very much!

If trying to 'summarize a couple of its traits' - well, it is a 'Portal'-style puzzle game, which has a real 'text adventure' by Jonas Kyratzes and Tom Jubert as a kind of optional game-in-the-game. You don't have to read philosophical texts in terminals to complete the puzzles - but if you DO, you are rewarded with a nice and deep story. Puzzles are excellent, diverse and challenging - but unfortunately they have little to do with adventure-gaming.

As for motion sickness, timing and dexterity - usually I don't (and can't) play games that require quick actions etc. But as I said I have enjoyed 'The Talos Principle' a lot. There are several puzzles (out of more than a hundred) that do require fast running - but the truth is that if I fail to do something in time that usually means not that my reflexes are slow, but that the current puzzles is to be solved in a different and less obvious way smile

So this should be moved to the Darkside where Portal is then. Thanks Iurii!

If anyone is interested, there is a free trial of this game over at Steam right now. Not sure how long this offer will last (it's a mini-version of the game, or something like that).

...anyway, it's quite nice to look at and has an easy to grasp interface (WASD), but it is a puzzle game, and it is difficult. 45 minutes in and I'm stuck with nowhere to go. But then again, I'm just a dumb action/RPG gamer who likes to hit things when I get frustrated. smashpc

This should really be listed as an adventure game, methinks, unless it turns into something else later on. Or maybe the trial is a puzzle game, and the real game is not? But if that's the case, releasing this as a trial would make no sense.... headscratch

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Dark Side or not, I don't really care for definitions.

Thanks a lot for your comments! All sounds positive. I want to get it, but I might wait until the price sinks a bit. 40 Euros (in Germany) is quite steep.

Many games are hard to categorize, so hearing from folks who have played it often helps. I hope the price sinks enough for you to try it. wave
