I am in the Grotto and am supposed to do the Message Puzzle - does it have to be accomplished in order for me to be able to proceed? Or can I skip it since I have the w/t and know what it is supposed to say...This one seems fraught with too much frustration for me - why couldn't they have thrown a 'slider' in here instead? This is one heck of a maze - finally learned how to use this map - getting tired of all this trudging around....

No to the Grotto puzzle - it's just a fun puzzle to get a very important clue. Since you already know it - it doesn't matter. Click on them once just to be sure. wink

Once you get the hang of the place - the puzzles are wonderfully challenging.

Err... there's a maze type puzzle in the end. A combination maze-treasure hunt.

Hang in there, Betty Lou!

Just call me 'frustrated' - I spoke to Mr. Fermino and he told me to pick up his Capri salad at the restaurant - I went back to the rest. and the waiter gave me something (I don't remember what), then I went on to the Grotto etc., Now am back at the rest. and waiter won't open door (no hotspot), went back to Mr. F's and rang his bell again, HE WANTS HIS SALAD - have looked in my 'bag' (inventory) and I have a white paper shopping bag from someplace called Prado but when I try to talk to Mr. F a 3rd time (went back to be sure I had talked to him a 2nd time as 'hotspot' will not appear on doorhandle) now can't get 'talk' action and can't determine just what is in that silly white bag - what do I do now? If the salad is in the white bag how do I give it to Mr. F......If it is not in the bag how do I get it - have 'picked' Arugula, Basil and sage but am getting nowhere so slowly as to put me to sleep - can't understand why this particular game is annoying me so much, but it is - about ready to quit.
Love, Betty Lou

The waiter gave you that bag to place all the ingredients for the Capri salad.

Capri salad is made from mozzarella, basil and tomatoes. You learn this from the lady at the Buca de Bacco restaurant in town.

You get the basil from the right pot up the steps at the restaurant.

Tomatoes from the nephew of Constanzo at Belvedere Cesina.

Mozzarella is bought from the deli close to Buca de Bacco.

Then stand by the restaurant door.
Place the 3 ingredients inside the bag. Click on the bag to highlight it.
Place the ingredients on highlighted bag.
Then click the bag with ingredients on the door and the waiter will take the bag.
He will then open the door and give you the Capri Salad.

Ahhhhhhh, so that's how it's done.....
And, as for teleporting, I guess I need to try it again and practice it as I thought "how nice if I could just jump there", and did so once but forgot how.....thanks MaG you're great. This game would be much better if there were others about to interact with more often - too lonely...

I am stumped - I have learned how to 'transport' and I am getting very good at reading the map and finding out how to get from point A to point B and getting around is not as hard as it was before...but I thought I had learned how to take something out of my bag (inventory) and "USE" it on someone or something and here I am looking at Lembo's sisters teleconveyer = I approached this device, pressed the buzzer and she asked me what I wanted - I closed the notebook, opened my bag, clicked on the fingerprint card and clicked on "take" then clicked on "use" and put it on the cup on the left side of that gizmo - I have the 'help' tool ON so I could see just where to place it - now I have a card floating above the cup, in the space below this scene is my bag and other stuff and a figure of a man with his hand up to his mouth like a megaphone and he is shouting and the word "again" so I click on it and buzzer sounds again and she asks same question - that is where I am at right now and nothing else seems to be happening - I can't get my 'back' arrow, 'turn around' arrow and don't know what to do now.....She does not tell me that Lembo went fishing - so now what do I do?

OK, I think you have placed the card on the receiving cup - now send it through. See if you can press the receiving cup it self to send it through.

My memory is so not working too well. frown

Ahhhh, MaG - you and I can't be the only two GBers who have played this game.....where is everyone else?
HELP! I am at the newstand - I need to find the "Gardens" with two gates - have found a Garden with a "Dali" type statue of a man and woman holding each other, very moderne, and they are near a pond or fountain with two white marble figures lying on a rock.....I am not sure this is the right Garden as I cannot find a second gate nor a "patio area down below". This garden does not appear to show up on the map and when I look at the map from the Garden I am in it puts me near a building called "tennis" - am I in the right place? If not, how do I find the correct Garden (step by step from the newstand please, I am directionally challenged most of the time)....
Thanks
Love, Betty Lou laugh

You are at the correct garden. Go back to the gate that you entered via some steps. Instead of going left - go forward up the path, then right and forward to another gate. wave

A lot of gamers played this several months ago. And there was a contest then also.

I did not enter the garden by going up any steps - I entered just in front of that statue of a couple hugging - and I can go forward, then right, but keep ending up going around that 'fountain' can't seem to get anywhere else......how do I find the entrance to the Garden with steps? When I approach that area coming from the newstand there is a set of stairs just ahead and slightly to the right with a short double gate at the top that appears to be chained shut - Fancy looking place with RLP sign on the large posts either side of the gate......can you step me from here to the correct gate for the Garden? Thanks OH, and I have found a pedestal (brick) with two cat statues on it - can you walk me from here?
Love, Betty Lou

slapforehead My mistake - wrong garden! Told 'ya my neurons are not sparking too well - too many games in my head.

Ok, let's start again - Go to Hotel Quisisana. Take the road right of Hotel Quisisana while facing the hotel. Go forward and right at the end of the road. Go forward until the Garden steps on the left. Enter the gardens.
Sorry!

Oops! blush I think I've found it! I did not realize I was supposed to stay outside the garden and follow the path to a further entrance.....seems like it felt like I was moving away from the gardens, not toward the same Garden....thanks for your help - poking around a bit on my own despite my feelings of 'this has to be WRONG!' sometimes gets me where I need to be - then again, sometimes NOT!

Betty Lou,
Use the teleporter back to the piazetta.
From there while up the steps, go down to the center of the piazetta with the newstand on your left.
Turn to the right and go forward to the street behind the chairs.
Go forward to the signpost that directs you to the Hotel.
Turn right to the street going to the hotel.
Then take the right side street (right of hotel).
Go forward until the end.
Turn right and go forward --- several click until you see a stairs on the left --- that is the garden.

Hey MaG, got a question for ya = Do you remember getting knocked unconcious when you were in the church and that psuedo-friend offered you a check for $100,000.00? I did, and ended up out of it for about 30 seconds or so - sat here looking at a black screen wondering what was going on now and all of a sudden I/Rafele came to and the light shown in again......
Anyway, you just had to know I would be back - and I just knew my successes in this game were short lived - I am standing at a gate - I believe it is the gate to Villa Jovis - it is rusty black wrought iron and looks down on some unkempt area with a beautiful white building straight ahead of me - lots of bushes and brush grown up all around....I have two keys in my 'bag' one is an old fashioned scrolly key and the other looks like any modern key to a door lock - I think the older key is the one that was in the letter from Costanza G. I found in letter #2 at the church - but when I face the gate I can see a square outline of a hotspot, with the cursor in that spot I get the 'eye' meaning look here but when I click on it I approach the gate so I can see the building - but there is noplace to put a key to unlock it - and when I step back one step and take the key out of my 'bag' and try to use it on that gate nothing happens - am I in the right place? I had one heck of a time finding it in the first and second and hundredth try - when I approach V.J. and there is the 'split' I took the lower path to this locked gate - should I have taken the upper path? can't find any gate up there to unlock.....HELP please...
Love, Betty Lou

Yup, got hit by Mata Haprik! BUT did you transformed the time machine or was it stolen from you? If it is stolen - you cannot go on with the game.

You should have finished Villa Jovis before you meet Mata Haprik at the church.

Tell me, OK.

Hey, what the heck? I had the time machine - got it on page 13 of your walkthrough from Felice the plumber; then got the sunglasses; then went to the beach; page 14/21 saw the fisherman; went to Royal Library & church; took 2 letters from church and saw map; what's-her-face showed up here during my first visit and when I tried to find that map-on-table in church she kept in my face, finally knocked me out and I did not even realize the time machine had disappeared from my inventory bag - so what do I do now? Where do I go to get it back? If I have to resort to a previous saved game I am s.....d as there are only 3 saves, I am saving often which overwrites previous saves etc etc etc...HELP please?

Oh, MaG - YOU'RE A GENIUS! What would I do without you? I did exactly what you said in your email and have the saves in my file and I am now standing here looking at an open gate - by the way, I was at the wrong gate before too!
May I suggest you add a note to your walkthrough so no one else gets stuck same place I did - add a WARNING that you should go to the church library first before picking up that time machine or risk losing it by getting knocked out and having it stolen by Mata.....if I had known ahead of time I would have avoided meeting her at all.....Whew! you sure saved my bacon here! Now I don't have to give up as I had no intention of starting all over again.....also it is good to know where those saved game files are as a person can then save to disc the three saved slots before overwriting them - a handy thing to know too. Onward & upward.....

I guess I need some clarification and updating here - if I start with your SAVE #3, have I finished everything in the Villa Jovis maze? Do I have the Time Machine in my Converter? waiting to be converted back to a TM when I go back to the Church? Have I already placed the first or second blue arrows at the Hotel signpost? Just where am I when I am standing at that open gate at Villa Jovis? Please.....

If you start at Save #3, the buttons above ground at Villa Jovis have all been pushed correctly.
Just go to the blue whirlpool door that is the entrance to to the catacombs and go from there.

Just continue at Villa Jovis catacomb as far as the walkthrough states and go from there.

The time machine is still in your inventory and you have to go through the church later.
