I have played the game many many times, but all of a sudden it will not load. I have it installed in my C drive, and when I try opening it via Nancy Drew Central, nothing happens. I've tried loading from the game's individual shortcut, with the same issue.

I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the game twice, to no avail.

I tried opening games 14, 15 & 16 as well, and they do the same as 13

What version of Windows do you have?
If you have Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8, have you tried right-clicking the game's shortcut and Run as Administrator?
Have you tried changing compatibility modes?

When you reinstall, do you install into your user's Documents folder?

Are any non-Nancy Drew games having the same issue?

I'm running on Windows 7. I did reinstall via Administrator mode. I did try changing the compatibility mode, with no change.

I haven't yet installed anywhere other than C:\Program Files (x86)\Nancy Drew, but I can uninstall and reinstall and not put it where it's at.


All of my non-Nancy games are running perfectly fine, it's just those 4 Nancy games.

I found a solution! I downloaded the cracked shortcut from GameCopyWorld, then renamed the one from the installation to Game1, then copied the shortcut from GCW and it loads right in from the shortcut, just not from nancy drew central, but I'm thinking of redoing my desktop dock (I use Krento) and using all of the ND shortcuts, instead of NDC

Recent Nancy Drew games don't need the CD (or DVD) in the drive, but the older games did. I don't know at what point the games stopped needing the disc in the drive. Maybe somewhere around #16 White Wolf?

I'm surprised your games didn't put up a message telling you to insert the disc. It's only fair they tell you what's wrong.

I've always found it odd that only some of the older ones require the disc. (7-11 didn't require the disc), but in fairnes, before trying the GCW solution, I did have the games disc in my drive, but at least it's solved now
