Another "Netflix Original" (which means they got it from somebody else). Based on a Danish story with apparently one of the Danish producers working on this Americanized version, set in Seattle. Washington.

Brief summary, leaving out a lot of small but important details so not to spoil too much:

Family of five, dad, mom, daughter, two sons, is going camping for the weekend. The 17 year old daughter has other plans and gets permission to stay in town at her best friends for the weekend while the rest of the family is out of town.

Monday: a police detective is supposed to be on her last day on the job as she is moving to California to marry her boyfriend, much to her 13 year old sons dismay. As she's cleaning out her desk her replacement, a man transferred from vice arrives. He looks it. They're both sent to check on a bloody sweater found in a park.

A high school student is frantically checking the halls for her best friend, who did not spend the weekend with her. Unable to find her. she tries calling her cell phone. No answer. She tries texting her. No reply.

When the parents learn their daughter was not in school, father goes looking for her and runs into daughters worried friend, who says that she spent the weekend with a teenage boy. Which is what she was told by a different teenage boy. Dad forces his way into the young man's apartment, but his daughter is not there. The spoiled rich kid claims she never was.

Where the girl actually spent the weekend is one of the mysterious the police will have to uncover as they investigate her murder, having found her body in the trunk of a car belonging to a city council man who is running for mayor.

The Killing is excellent and well worth watching. I do believe that the series was cancelled and Netflix brought it back for a final season. Season one and two deal with the same case and season three ends in a huge cliff hanger so it was great that Netflix brought the show back for a fourth and final season.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

According to wiki it was canceled twice and Netflix stepped in to save it both times, with the final season being their sole production.

I just realized that each episode is apparently 1 covering a single day.

Why does he say "moms" (or is it "mom's) when he means "mom"?

Just finishing the first season. And since the case has another season I'm assuming the latest suspect didn't do it any more than the previous ones.

I didn't care for "Missing". She finds her son's cell phone and key to the motel room inside the room, then spends the rest of the episode expecting him to call her or appear back in the room. And it was obvious from the start where the boy was. It never crossed her mind for a second that the boy would be with his father. He tried in an earlier episode to talk to her about his father, but she told him to shut up. Some one needs to tell her that she may have divorced her husband, but her son did NOT divorce his father.

WHT? Episode 11, she tells her ex she'll have him arressted for kidnapping if he takes their son anywhere again. Episode 13, she's talking to her son on the phone and saying she's happy he's having a good time with his dad. Nothing in between even hints at her changing her mind.

Season 2's going to be interesting, with a man framed for the crime, possibly by corrupt cops.

Two episodes to go to find out who killed the Larsen girl but I have to go to bed. Nice twist.
Click to reveal..
The detectives think its the mayor and he is guilty of something, but maybe not the murder, because the blood stained key card doesn't unlock his office door.

I'm not sure if anyone reading cares, I will not be watching the show, but if you are trying to encourage someone to do so, it may be best to not give away the episode endings. There are an awful lot of spoilers.

Wow, what a ride. Lots of twists right up until the shocking reveal.

If The Killing 1 and 2 has a moral, its don't keep secrets from your loved ones. Everyone who did, got hurt, including the victim and the detectives. I'm still shocked by who the killer turned out to be.

I hope Seattle politics isn't actually that dirty but probably is.

The way everybody smokes in this series you'd think it was from the 1950s.

Third season very different, multiple murders and no more each episode is a day. Half way through its mentioned that its been 3 weeks since beginning of investigation into a serial killer. Could almost be a different show except its same two main characters. A couple of other regular characters from the first two seasons only appear briefly in a single episode.

I expected one of the murders but was still sad to see it happened.

Again, two episodes to go but I should have gone to bed hours ago, so finish later. I'm assuming that person the detectives think is the killer in episode 11 will prove not to be in 13 since that's how this series goes, they never get it right the first time.

Yea, if they get it right away, the show is over, so the first suspect can't be right lol

I don't believe season 3's ending. Season 4 has poor reviews on Netflix but I'll have to watch it if I want to see the aftermath of season 3. Fortunately its only 6 episodes. According to wiki some characters from first two seasons will show up again.

It's amazing to me how a "season" can be only 6 episodes. wave

According to the Internet Movie database, the original Danish series Forbrydelsen ("The Crime) had a different killer with a different motive for its first case, which lasted one season of 20 episodes instead of two seasons covering 26 episodes. The original series second and third seasons were not at all like the American series. The 4th season of the American version was produced by Netflix. One side effect of this is that the characters suddenly swear a lot more. Which I don't think is an improvement. Another difference is the victims in the first 3 seasons were all female, 4th season includes 2 males.

The American series first two seasons has the murder of a girl from a "middle class" American family. The third the victims are runaway street kids, so "lower class" and the 4th, the brutal murders of a wealthy "upper class" family. The first murder is solved by the end of the second season, case closed. Third season leaves lose ends which may or may not unravel in the fourth.

It's over. Season four was the weakest. I didn't like the series ending. They didn't deserve a

A few hours after its over I can see the flaws in the writing, especially in the last season.
