One scene from a game has popped in my head. Being at a remote, deserted, run down petrol station, possibly attached to a motel. An empty chair a table and ashtray that an attendant may use. Perhaps about to create a distraction in order to 'find' someone hiding nearby. My recollection is that the game is set in modern times but I guess it could be a Noir type era. Surely it's a detective or investigative game as that's mostly what I play. Please can anyone prompt my third rate memory with the name of the game?

Could it be Barrow Hill?

I don't believe I've played Barrow Hill. Looked at the service station part of the walkthrough. It's a good thought thanks but you have made me think that the service station was in bright sunny weather and maybe causing a reflection was part of the distraction - or maybe not.

I've coincidentally just started re playing Face Noir today. I remember how the bar owner is distracted and although I haven't got to that part I don't think face Noir is it. The game/scene I'm trying to think of was bright and in daylight. Believe I had to interact with more than one petrol pump and nearby items to create explosion or distraction. I'll certainly come back and tell you if it does turn out to be Face Noir, Mag - thanks for the suggestion.

Do you see your character on the screen while you're playing (3rd person point of view)?
Or do you look through your character's eyes (1st person point of view)?
Do you remember if your character is male or female?
Were the colors bright or muted?
Was it a "nighttime" game?
About how long ago did you play it? (DOS era (with pixellation) or later)

The Journey Down, Shivers 2, and Shady Brook also had gas stations in them. Still Life 2 may have also.

You might be able to find your game using a Google search for

3rd person game but don't know sex or if working with a partner. Bright coloured investigative game. Not a spooky game. My recollection of motel/gas station was a remote, desert, USA location. A game like Still Life, Art of Murder type and style. At motel to find a bad guy I think. Cant see into his room so use petrol pump area for distraction. Thanks for your help. I'll try a search.

There was a gas station that fits the description in 'Memento Mori 2". Near a motel in Mexico.

Thanks for the thought Iurii. Plsyed that game last year and don't think that's the one. I play 'series' games often like Secret Files and Chronicles of Mystery. I think the game I vaguely recollect may have been a one off like Martin Mystere, Belief and Betrayal. Perhaps if I go to bed I'll remember it at 2 in the morning!

Could it be Shivers 2: Harvest of life? I clearly remember a motel, and a gas station. Out in the middle of nowhere in a desert somewhere in the USA...However, this is first person game. So maybe it could be one of the Runaway games or one of the Secret Files game?

Adventure gaming is fun smile

Thanks Karsten. Haven't played any Shivers games. Not a cartoon style but I will re play Secret Files and see.

Turns out it was Memento Mori 2 Guardians of Immortality. Just replaying it now and in final act overjoyed to find a motel and gas station in Tijuana, Mexico. So I'm not going mad, just getting forgetful smirk

Iurii was right all along blush
