Gerry, this series of games are puzzles called nonograms. If you played the Nancy Drew game Shadow at the Water's Edge, there were nonograms puzzles in that one. Basically what you do is decide which cells in a grid must be colored or left blank according to numbers at the side of the grid, while in the process revealing a hidden picture. These puzzles are quite fun to solve once you get the hang of it - I would call them logic and deduction puzzles.
