I cannot find the pins in the captain's cabinet. Thought I had removed the pins, but they're not in inventory. The cabinet has the small puzzle in the back of the cabinet which I have not solved. Is it necessary for getting the pins for the map? Where could they be?

I don't remember this part of the game very well. The pins are in a can in the cabinet, but I don't remember how the pins display in inventory after you take the can - whether you see a can in your inventory or just the pins.

You need to solve the map first before the cabinet puzzle.

Maybe the pins looks like a can in inventory. Check that.
