Umm...I'm feeling rather dense ... I know there is a basement to explore from other clues I have discovered but I can't find it ... can anyone help? I really don't want to look at a walkthrough.

It is under the stairs close to the bar and left of the ornate door to the dining room. The door is not very distinctly seen.
