I don't think "Vimes" shows up in the book.
But, you get a screen showing your bag of objects, notebook and a mouth. Use the mouth for a little small talk, and a couple of dialoges shows up below, when Lewton (sp?) ask those, Wimes shoud be mentioned.

Try, and ask for more help if it isn't that.

Caroline

I haven't lost it, I just can't find it....

I'm playing Discworld Noir now...IT JUST took a very great and sstrange turn in ACT 3
***As for your ??
First after you meet Carlotta..you have to go down to the Wharf,)the only other place so far that is lit up where you can go). Speak to Mr. Scolpett (first mate)make general chit chat about Milke's Passengers..this will give you sevral avenues to discuss wit him ue them all up)... find out about the location to get to Cafe ANKH and Mundy murders (you must use both your left mouse buton and the enter key to get things talked about and also objects picked up ..the right mouse button just gives you commentary on things you are looking at (you must have the words like "MR.SCOLPETT" or "crates" on them and see the words before hitting the left mouse key or the enter key) (sometime just the left mouse button is enough but mostly the "enter" key is neded to pick up items, or if you are looking at something like Nobby use both the enter key and the left mouse button.
Once in Cafe Ankh you will meet Nobby (it's at this point you here about VIMES..but he is a minor player here) but you have to go to the wharf first and talk to the first mate Mr. Scolpett as much as psosible..and as things get written down in your notebook(you'll see a pen in th upper left corner..writing..it is something new,you might hve to ask people you've talked to before about those new things after Cafe Ankh you go back to your ofice. That is all I'l say. Hank
***YOu can get to your notebook and inventory by hitting left mouse when it is on LEWTON and then you can use left mouse button on notebook to scoll through to get to what you want..
It will take some practice to get the things to work and you get the desired results! PATIECNCE
You can also use F1 to get to save/load games quit/ or sound..F2 will give you your inventory or F3 wil get you your notebook.. use either going to Lewton or the F keys..using the F keys are better in some places becasue it gives you a chance to ask ?? and then have things come up that you should ask about (it is written down there for you). If a new pace is mentioned a MAOP is seen in the left corner..you now know you have another pace you must/cn go to!!
Good Luck....... It si a fun game, once you get the keys down right to do all that you want to
Your Friend...Hanksdog..see my post about this game about a couple says before you and they give you a place that you can get % good WT if ou need them, some give just nudges in the f=right dirction w/o giving it away....

No, that's the scrap of paper--the one you found in the bunk. Are you trying to combine by "using" the scrap on the matchbook.

If you can't get it to work, you can send me a saved game and I'll see what I can tell about it. This is too good a game to get hung up at this stage...

Gamer.........
The scrap of paper you need to combine is in the warehouse. You must get Malachite to go to Salaachie's Masoleum first then he will leave behind the grapple that will helpp you get into the warehouse through the skylight.
When you put the two pices of paper the one with the number on it and the one you find in the warehouse..... when you are in inventory try to put them togehter by clicking your left mouse two times.(I think) .
**remember... to get people to talk to you... you frist walk up to them, then hit enter first then the conversation starts up and you can get to then tell Malachite you have found Therma, or Loadestone. Keep it up there are two or three places where I found it hard to do what I was supposesed to. It required me to go to my note book , click on that ph=hrase then move it out of inventory click again then click it on the wording of what you want. I.e. to to note book to where is talks about Therma in grave use pen to click on the words, "Therma in Masoleum" (or something like that )the pen turns into a question mark..you can then click the left mouse button again to make notebook disapear but the questionmark will still stay...you then place quesstion mark on Malachite's name click it and he will speak of Therma and take him to see for himself....
I hope this helps...ask me anything you need I will try to get bakc to you if yo get stuck.
Look at the replies on my quesiotion about DN and I was given a great place to get differev=nt WT's which explained things differently so when you combined them all you get a better picture of how to proceed. I know some don't like to yuse WT or spoiters...I find it necesary at times... Thisone is calle the Spoiler Center...I Think...Have FUn...Hank and Blanche

Helen, if Hanksdog's advice doesn't do it for you, you can send me a save. Find the folder with the game in it and right-click on the file of the save you want to send. This brings up a menu, go to "send to", and then click on "mail recipient". This brings up an e-mail with the save as an attachment. All you have to do then is put in my e-mail address and send...

Gamer...I got stuck at this place too for some reason I had a hard time getting them to combine. Your'll be plesed to know that this is the only place where you have to combine anything in inventory but their are a couple of other places I found frustrating..for one reason or another...but onthe whole the game never froze up on me and worked well, it was my not doing something in the right order or forgetting to do something that waas the problem...because the gameis not exactly linear you can odo some things but then have to go back in a sense to do other things you should have done when you were at that place the first time. Love Ya..hank

Okay, Here we go again, Im at the beginning of chapter 2 and I cant get the clue from the rope
off of Mundys body, not sure I understand how to do this, I look at the rope and it just tells me its useless and when I look at the boots it just says they were tied with my rope, I checked the WT and it says I get a clue from the rope that I use on the message in blood on the wall, but Im just not getting this clue. frown Could one of you kindly people help me out again? laugh

Helen, the trick here is to open your notebook, find the hint about the frayed rope (which should have appeared when you examined the rope), and then drag that hint over to Mundy's boots. This will give you another hint, that Mundy was hanged upside down. You then drag that hint from your notebook to the blood to get the next hint...
