I am a fan of games such as The Monkey Island series,Broken Sword,Jack Orlando and The Longest Journey that are point & click and similar graphics.I also like games like Syberia,Journey to the center of the Earth.Could you recommend me games similar to the poin & click ones I mentioned?

It sounds like "Runaway" would be a fun game for you. The same sort of graphics, a lot of humor, point and click adventure. And welcome to Gameboomers!

Nightlong is another 3rd person point-and-click, which seems to be what you're looking for. If you use Win ME or XP, you'll need a saved game to get past one area, but apart from that it should be fine. The bug doesn't happen in Win 95/98.

Welcome Adventurelover to this great board.
I can second Mugsy's selections. Just in case you haven't played these two original classics, get Myst and Riven. Myst III: Exile is good too but not as good as the first two.

You would also enjoy The Arrangement, another independently produced game (like Dark Fall). You can find where to get it in this section of the message board.

From the games you listed it sounds like you are looking for 3d person adventure games.

Here are some to consider

Beneath a Steel Sky
Hopkins FBI
Orion Conspiracy
Riddle of Master Lu
Toon Struck
Woodruff & Schnibble
Kings Quest Series
Space Quest Series
Police Quest Series
Watchmaker
Leisure Suit Larry series
Gabriel Knight 1 2 & 3
Torrin's Passage

Some are hard to find and the older games may or may not play on your machine depending on your OS and speed etc. but they all fit your criteria.

Oldman, which of the ones you listed play on XP? I have already played the Gabriel Knight ones. LOVED Longest Journey and everything by Lucas Arts.

The four food groups: Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate and HOT chocolate.

I have the exact same tastes in adventures, so I am going to have to recommend you play these first! These are, in my opinion, the absolute creme de la creme of third person point n click adventures, and I've played nearly all of them. =)

Gabriel Knight 1
Riddle of Master Lu
Sherlock Holmes: Case of the Rose Tattoo
Discworld Noir
King's Quest VI
Toonstruck

Also, I would stear away from the previously mentioned Darkfall, Myst, and Amerzone....sounds like your thing is 3rd person classic conversation and invertory adventures.

Also Discworld 2-Morality Bytes, the 2 Phantasmagoria games (Phantasmagoria and Puzzle of the Flesh) and Midnight Nowhere .Plus 2 definite musts Broken Sword games Shadow of the Templars/Circle of Blood and Smoking Mirror.

All are 3rd person point and click adventures

If the world didn't suck would we all fall off
Now playing Post Mortem, Midnight Nowhere and Still Life

thanks I was reading the games reviews on Gameboomers and came up with Broken Sword and Discworld Noir also. I have questions about these, based on the reviews (let me know what you think): No Action Jackson, Conspiracies Full Moon in San Francisco, and 1893: World Fair Mystery.

Oh yes! A Vampyre Story (that's not out yet) looks like it's going to be a riot! The review said it's being made by the former Lucas Arts folks. I love their stuff!

Melia, some of ones I listed are DOS games and may or may not work with XP. It's a hit and a miss. Hopkins, Riddle of Master Lu, Toon Struck and Torrins Passage were made for Win 95 or 98 so they would probably play in compatibility mode. Watchmaker is pretty new and I played it on XP.

One of these days I'll dig out my old King's quest series and see if they will play on XP. It would be a trip down memory lane.

Τhank you all for the warm welcome. Also, thank you very much for all the recommendations.I couldn't have more help!I 've played Runaway,Watchmaker,Broken Sword 1,2,3 and Amerzone.Well,Runaway and Broken Sword are great.I 've also played Leisure suit Larry:Love for Sail but it's not the most suitable for a woman.Oldman, you 're right I don't know why but I like 3rd-person adventure games more than 1st person ones.Seems that I should look gor Gabriel Knight games and generally all these that you have recommended. The problem is that I won't be able to find them in my city.I 've also heard a lot about Sam & Max hit the road and Full Throttle. Are they any good?I mean are they child adventure games or like the ones I 've mentioned?

Sam & Max definitely have humour that are designed to entertain adults, so you should not need to worry about it being too childish.

I think you will like the GK series - it mostly involved very logical puzzles and I just love the humour in the game (although I am not quite sure how much women might appreciate the humour - as a few of my real life female friends have referred to it as sexist)! It definitely is one of my more favourite series of adventure game of all times (up there with Zork).

These games are fairly old though, so don't expect wonderful graphics... you'll definitely have to look modestly hard to find copies of this game - try the trading post or Game Trading Zone.

Also, welcome to Gameboomers!

Morning adventurelover and welcome to GB's,
I just bought Syberia 2 and Aura. Our local EB games store has a great selection of pre-owened adventure games. I do belive that you are having a few people over to play some games next month. The games are very real action/adventure. Wow, now you pick out an avatar pic.

A few others to consider are Beneath a Steel Sky and Flight of the Amazon Queen. These were originally older commercial games that have now been released as freeware. They run under ScummVM, and are available for download at www.scummvm.org .

A couple of good sources for older games are:

The Simon the Sorcerer 1 & 2 games would be right up your ally as well.

and Uru also has 3rd person abilities though it is exploration based rather than conversation/inventory. There is no game out now as beautiful & peaceful as Uru and its in 3d!

Riven is the most beautiful, immersive, and realistic of the "slideshow" point & click games. It would be a shame if you missed it. seriously

Myst & Riven games are the best of the first person games. They pretty much defined the genre which is one of the reasons Myst is such a classic. Exile was pretty good too. Also the Journeyman project trilogy & Darkfall (which I was playing right before Path of the Shell) are well worth your time if you like thoughtful games with very good puzzles. I love 'em!

From what I understand, "Master Lu" will not run under XP.

Good places to check for XP compatibility:

Riddle of Master Lu is supposed to work with DOSBox version 0.61. Check here
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/comp_list.php?letter=t

For some reason they put it under T for The instead of R for Riddle.

Electronic Boutique. They have stores as well as a web site for buying games http://ebgames.com/ebx/default.asp
which has a large selection of used and new games also.

Happy gaming,
