Hi - hope this is the right place to post.

Am playing Dead Reefs which is a WASD control keyboard as opposed to point and click with mouse. Not the first one I've played this type of game... and I hate these controls.
The WASD take away from enjoying the game... I always have to concentrate on my next move.

Dead Reefs is really enjoyable. Good story line so far, graphics are great. But the controls are taking the full enjoyment away.

Question: Why do the gamemakers insist on making these games with WASD as opposed to click and point with mouse?

Is it a matter of cost? Are WASD cheaper to make than point and click? Or do the gamemakers just like to torture us?

If it is cheaper to make WASD please make them point and click - I, for one, will be most willing to pay a bit extra.

Is there a way to get to these people? Can we here at Gameboomers all meet on a mountain top and scream "Enough with WASD".

Hope a game developer is a member at Gameboomers and sees this thread and takes time to respond.

Well, just vented my frusration ... a good evening to everyone.

Back to the game.

lol your venting has been heard.

I much prefer point and click, but have to say I have become, much to my surprise, quite proficient in WASD since I started playing shooters. It is surprising what we can learn to do second nature if it is repetitive enough.

Hi smile

I bought this game a while ago but immediately lent it to one of my Daughters - thus postponing the terrors of TWO hands on the keyboard lol

I can manage quite well with one hand on the keyboard and one hand on the mouse - but TWO hands on the keyboard ..... ????

Quakin' in my boots eek

Cheers.

When I played the game, I thought the controls were awkward at first but once I got used to it, it didn't bother me at all. By the middle of the game, I couldn't see why I thought they were awkward. I wouldn't mind more games with the same controls. wave

I find my Gamepad makes these games much easier to play. Buttons are programed for easy reach and joystick for basic movement. Would recommend the Logitech Rumblepad 2. Easy to control and program. Dreamfall worked great with it.

WASD control allows one to be able to interact more with the game environment, so it is often preferred for 3D games. That said, the controls for Dead Reefs weren't typical of WASD controls and were awkward to learn. For that game, I agree that point and click might have been better.

Not having worked on this game, it's difficult to comment on the specifics. However, I'm sure that the development company involved have very good reasons for choosing the control system they did. They probably had to make choices that they knew would upset some people, but there are times when, as a developer, you make the choices that best serve your vision of the game. No developer sets out to alienate part of their potential audience and must do what they feel suits the audience as a whole.

I actually prefer keyboard controls for third person games; but I agree the interface in Dead Reefs was weird. The game does allow you to change the controls to whatever is comfortable for you , thought, so it wasn't a problem for me. It was one of my favorite games this year!

Hi Retired at Last. I totally agree with you. My left hand is for my coffee mug not for key tapping. I got very annoyed in the roman number colume when I could not find how to back away from the puzzle when I had finished- silly me just hit the esc key. Nowhere was that in the manual I found it in MaG's very good w/t slapforehead The first time I played this I went a very different way from the w/t and after approx 3 hours of getting no where I started again. This time it has worked fine. No, sorry, this willnot be my favorite of the year. smashpc

P O I N T & C L I C K all the way!
I'm with you on this RetiredAtLast! To have to use any more controls than right & left clicking with my mouse --causing me to look down at the keyboard-- takes away from the feeling of environment immersion. Two-handed gaming? Nuh-uh! No way! Not for me! Like OldLady said, "My left hand is for my coffee mug not for key tapping." Maybe the keyboard-controlled games are made with shoot-'em-up type games in mind. I avoid 'em both like the plague. But it looks like the adventure game landscape is changing a bitsad... like the recent Nancy Drews.
