I could not find this anywhere on your site. I need some advice about the purchase of one of these.
Would you be kind enough to let me know where I should go for this.
Thank you very much

welcome to Gameboomers meryl!

Robert is right, there are many out there. However, the best are, and always have been Microsoft's. Here is a little more on their newest one:
MS Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight

welcome Mery to the best site on the web, Gameboomers! My husband loves Flight Simulator from MS. He's actually quite good at flying several different planes.

Did you have one game in particular in mind? now that you've been given some to choose from..I bet you are wondering who has used what. woozy
Make sure when you're reading up on the games, you know what will work with your puter.
Feel free, and please do let us know which games you have managed to whittle the list down to; or have chosen

Hello. I went to the Flight Simulator website and found it utterly overwhelming. Great for experienced "flyers" but there was nowhere I could ask what I want to know. Each forum was game specific.
I hope you will be able to help.
I've never played before so I need to start with a fairly non-complicated program which teaches the basics of flying in an enjoyable way. I have a logitech Attack 3 joystick (quite basic). My processor is AMD Athlon XP 2800. I have 768 MB Ram.
I once saw a FS program advertised that reviewers thought too restrictive as it only used a few US West Coast airports and wasn't extensive on air traffic control or brilliant on scenery. It sounded perfect for me - unfortunately I can't remember its name!
I've had a look at FS 2004 and 2002 - wonderful programs but more than I need and probably more than the computer can handle.

What your PC can handle is an important point . Your AMD processor is OK and will handle the task . I would like to know about your video card , as this and RAM are the most important components when determining how well a flight sim will perform on your system . Click--->Start-->Run , and type dxdiag and click OK . Click the Display tab and get the name and type of your video card , then we can see about making suggestions . thumbsup

Edit : With the MS simulator , you should be able to configure it for flying to and from non-controlled airports ( no air traffic control ). In fact , you should be able to select a configuration for a scenario to be as easy or as complicated as you wish . You could probably even configure it for simple " touch and goes ".

Hi Meryl thumbsup
Your video card , RAM and processor are sufficient for running any flight simulator that you choose , provided it's not a real old one that's designed to run in Windows 98 as games designed for that operating system sometimes have trouble running in XP .

I agree with Rusty , the Microsoft 2004 Flight Simulator would be the best choice for you .There is a message board at Gamefaqs.com that's devoted specifically for that game . You can register there for free if you want to ask some questions about it . Just click on the link below to hop there and take a look . I've also added a link to a list of sims that you can check out at Gamespot.com .

Click here for the Gamefaqs message board

Thanks Robert. You're a diamond. As is everyone who has helped me here.
I would never have had the confidence to buy this without the know-how on this forum.
FS 2004 it is then.

Definitely the full installation, if you have the space.

I haven't played MS FS 2004, but I played FS 5 through FS 2000. MS FS has always had very scalable graphics so it will run on almost anything. Various difficulty-related settings are available (such as turning off all crashes). You have a wide choice of planes with varying amounts of instrumentation. I'd recommend "the big one" as you can start off easy, and when you're ready for more, you can readily get more.

Thanks Invar. I'll go for the full install. I'm glad I can turn off the crashes!
