Hi all. I want to go back and re-visit The 7th Guest, as it's been years since I've played it. I'm trying to install it on a system that runs Windows Me as the OS, and has two HDDs, one of which is partitioned, and two CD ROM drives, designated 'K:\" and "M:\" (don't know if that's relevant, but in the wake of the Exile snafu I thought I'd state that up front).

I know there is a Windows patch to install to get the game to run, but I can't even get to that point--I'm getting messages when installing that say that the installation procedure has been changed and now requires the 2nd CD. So when I try installing from that one, I get the dreaded retry, abort, fail? message after reaching the DOS window installation screen.

What in the world is going on? I remember being able to install this thing in Windows 95 with no hassles at all.

Anyone have any clue as to what I'm doing wrong?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Brent

Well, when I try to

Sounds like it doesn't like CD drives to have such high drive letters. Anyone know if that's a problem with 7th Guest?

I just tried to load the game in - I have two rom drives D and E. When I placed the second disk in either drive I got the same message you did. How I solved it was to put the first disk in one drive and the second disk in the other - I could then install the game. It didn't matter which disk was in which drive.

It still may not work because of the high drive designations, but it's worth a shot.

Well, looks like it's the partition problem again. I don't think the game will install from drive letters that far down the alphabet. :-(

Time for a new computer, I think.

Thanks for the replies.

HI BrentB I've been trying to install 7th Guest for 3 weeks in my ME version of windows to know advail. I tried every patch and none of them worked. It even told me to change my IRQ from 10 to lower than 7 and my computer won't let me change that. I wish I could help but I'm in the same boat. I have done everything but give up, that is next.

That's a different problem. Brent can't patch a game he can't even install.

If I remember rightly (?) the patch is not really a patch. It is an install file.
