I have been going through some older Games,
Oldies but Goodies, Recenly finished
all the GK games, I love those,
I have to say, THE DIG is So awesome so far,
I downloaded the ScummVA program that is recommended to be able to play on XP.
Also watched the Dig UTube Review, and from that recommendation,
decided to get into all the dialog trees, they really help flesh out the story,
I am not very far into it, but can already tell, this is an awesome game,
I am so enjoying it, far more than many of the recent games i have played, in fact,
I was really feeling frustrated with some of the recent games.
(last half of darkness, Ceville which I couldnt finish, Art of murder)
I just wish they made more like this one,
I will probably take my time, and make it last.. smile
so if anyone has not played it yet, I highly recommend it,
Course I do need to finish, I am just so excited wanted to share,
about one that is so engaging ... in just the first 1/2 hour...
Marcia smile

Glad you are enjoying it, HeavenlyJoy. I'm really going to have to seek this one out at one point, hopefully find a good price for it. I've heard such good things about it, and the story looks very intriguing. smile

For some reason I thought Dig wouldn't be a game I would like. Then I played it. Very good game. Also used Scumm.

The Dig is a great game which I still fondly recall even though I played it way back when it was a new game, not an oldie. I had borrowed it from a friend when he recommended it.

I loved it too! I don't remember playing in SCUMM but I think I did play in XP.

It was a great game that I would love to play again some day!

So many games, so little time.

It's an amazing, underated game.

I have the old, original The Dig but am having problems with getting my WIN95 computer to play it (not asking for help with it here, BTW). Could you provide a link to this game SCUMM (download) version please as I would like to try it on my XP? Thanks.
Love, Betty Lou

I have the older version and found out recently that Steam has the game to download for $4.99 and it works with Vista. I had a problem loading The Longest Journey and found that Steam had it for $9.99 and worked with Vista too and it does the best money invested in a game I love to play. I have not tried to load my version of Dig on this computer yet. I loved playing Dig too.

I thought The Dig was great. I really liked the plot and the music was very good. I would recommend the game to Boomers of all ages.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Hi I tried this First without The sCummvm, and it couldnt find my sound card,
that is the reason I went in search of this program, here it is Betty Lou smile

http://www.scummvm.org/

I put it at full screen, and am wondering if
my pc is seeing it all, I think I need to adjust
my Screen, to fit all, I bought a newer Monitor, and
sometimes miss a little , and need to adjust I think,
I am currently having trouble with one of the puzzles
and wondering if there was a patch for this game?
anyway, loving the story smile
and just want to share, because if others havent played it,
thought they would enjoy it too ...
will look for a patch, then maybe go in to the hints and help forum,
if that is not it.. smile thank God for Walkthroughs LOL

Steam has the Dig and several of the oldies available for download, XP and vista compatible.

The LucasArts Adventure Pack currently being offered on the site for digital download
includes The Dig, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, and LOOM for only $9.99!

What kind ofgame is it (adventure, HOG). Where can I find it, and what is SCUMM?

I really enjoy mornings. I just wish they came later in the day.

I agree that this is a fun game. For those who don't wish to download a game or go through the hoops of Scumm or Dosbox but would rather have a disk version the 2002 United Kingdom re-release can be bought and it is updated to run on Windows 95/98/ME/2000 and XP The Dig in DVD style case can be bought new or used in US at Amazon.com but make sure you contact the seller to ask if it is the UK version for Windows XP like the ones sold by Knights Discount. Some of them are mis-listed there and are simply the old Dos versions so don't be fooled. Knights is a reputable seller that I have bought numerous games from. You can also find them on Ebay

SCUMM is the name of the engine. You can read more about it here.

The Dig is an adventure game, not a casual game. No hidden objects. (Well, no hidden object screens, if you know what I mean.)

Hi smile

GreyFuss ....
I did go to Ebay but did a search for "The Dig in XP" and came up blank - but from the link you provided, I see I should just have stuck with "The Dig" lol

HeavenlyJoy ....
I'll go see the PM you sent me, thank you, before we get thrown off this thread with a "This is not the Trading Post message" eek

[The only version of The Dig that I have ever had is the very early DOS release - which I play on an old machine grin]

Cheers.

Cheers Mad! lol (Why IS that such a popular expression now?) Ooops, off topic again.

I think it's interesting that The Dig is not one of the games (apparently) for which LucasArts will be updating the graphics. It's near the top of MY list for that kind of treatment.

Great game. I got it to play on my XP with the Scumm no problem. They (rarely) make them like they used to.......sad.

I agree, Becky, but I would want a disk version and not a download, as seems to be the trend, lately ....

And we all know that he who wants never gets rotfl

Yes, it's the trend. From what I can tell (with admittedly imperfect knowledge/information) adventure developers nowadays make between $0.00 to $1.00 per copy of the disk versions released in the U.S. -- unless you buy the disk version directly from the developer's site, it's possible that not much money is filtering back to those who made the game. frown
