I haven't been able to play the latest games for the last three years because of my graphics card so haven't kept up with releases.
I not only have a new computer now but also a coupon code for two free games from Radeon rewards which I have to redeem by the end of the month.
So I'm badly in need of suggestions. I like first person rather scary creepy games (Dracula doesn't scare me). My favourite games were the Dark Fall series, Lost Crown, Rhiannon, the game that precedes Bracken Tor (can't bring to mind the name) Scratches etc.
Actually I loved Lost Horizon too even though it was 3rd person.
Have there been any games released rather like those in the above list?

Meryl, I haven't had the time to play many these days, but you can check the last 6 months of releases here.

I don't recall any really scary ones along the lines of what you are looking for but it looks like 2014 will have some coming for you!

Congrats on the new computer!

Eleusis springs to mind as being an eerie first person adventure that was released fairly recently.

The game was updated to include certain action elements, however, which spoiled the game for some players. The original version received a positive review from GB.

Thank you for the recommendations. I'll take a look at these.
Incidentally Rushes, is it possible to buy the old version of Eleusis still, and would I be able to distinguish it from the newer version?

Meryl, I do not believe it's possible to get the original anymore. They updated the game at the game shops and I would think that any legitimate download site would only have the current version for sale.

and it's too bad we can't get the original anymore.

It was a nice adventure game with 1 or two very small action parts that was easy to solve.

Now the gamer is persued by the bad guys to many times for my liking. eek12

Meryl, I thought Baron Wittard Nemesis of Ragnarok was creepy. It is one of my favorites. Is Barrow Hill the game you have played, if not it is excellent.

Timo,

I'll second Black Mirror 2 and the Last Half of Darkness games, especially The Tomb of Zojir and Society of the Serpent Moon.

The old Sierra games Phantasmagoria 1 and especially 2 were frightening, and disturbing, with psychopaths trying to kill you, but still artsy. However, would they work on your new shiny computer? Might have to dig your old one for those.

They are film type games like Gabriel Knight 2 The Beast Within. You can buy them on GoG, probably the safest versions to buy if you intend to play them on your new computer.

But if you are looking for the same atmosphere as in Barrow Hill, you might reach that mysterious frightening feeling via all the Nancy Drew games with the word ghost or haunted in the titles.

The best would certainly be the Black Mirror series and Overclocked though, I agree. I did not enjoy the Darkness Within series, but it seems to me you would enjoy them very much.

Another old Sierra with a similar eerie feeling like Barrow Hill would be Lighthouse The Dark Being.

rmt,
Phantasmagoria is available on GOG.
I didn't like it but, hey, someone else may.

Gil.

Such a lot of goodies in the sweet shop to choose!

Yes, I already play all the Nancy Drews. In fact, it was not being able to play the latest one that finally decided me to change the computer, Life without ND was not an option.
