I recognize the voice of the main character - does anyone know what other game this voice actor was in? He kind of sounds like David Spade.

I think I just figured it out - it's the main character from Ankh - Assil.

Right. And the guy who does the inspector was the main character in Undercover.
And the guy who did the pharaoh in Ankh is both in this game and in Undercover. Must be the same studio or something.

Thanks Shany - I knew I recognized the Inspector's voice too but couldn't figure out from where.

The English voice actors are not mentioned in the credits?

The girl who played Kat has a real nice voice with English accent.

Am I the only person who thought the voice acting in this game was terrible? As indeed was the translation. It seems to me to be a growing problem with adventure games made by foreign developers. I don't know if they are rushing the English-language versions of these games out more quickly these days, but it is something I never used to notice as much. There are a few notable exceptions - Kheops being one company who are top-notch with the translations and acting, in my opinion.

I really disliked Belief and Betrayal on the whole - boring puzzles, an unbelievably irritating main character and some rather dull historical lectures - a case of telling rather than showing, a big no no. Very disappointing. I would have given up on it if I had anything new to play - as it was I stuck with it while waiting for the new Nancy Drew, a series which I dearly love.

Well I think it depends on the situation. With Dracula: Origin, I found van Helsing's turns of phrase to be appropriate as English was not his first language but I found the American accents in Tunguska highly annoying as most of the action was taking place in Germany, Cuba and Russia rather than America.

I don't get it. I have read several comments from people that they really hated this game and the main character. What's not to like? There is intrigue, drama, humour, sights to see, inventory puzzles to do, characters to interact with, nice music soundtrack... and why are the puzzles THAT boring? They are inventory puzzles similar to puzzles in Jack Keane - I read in another thread that Jack Keane was regarded as one of the best adventure games of the year and that it was a good year for adventure games. Personally I thought Jack Keane had way too many puzzles and that Belief and Betrayal had a better balance of all the elements than Jack Keane has.

Well, there were two English versions of the game, released almost 8 months apart... I have the earlier version, and some of the voice acting is indeed nasty (I did like the game though), but I have no idea about the newer version released this June. I didn't see an English cast in the credits of my version, so comparing names in order to find out won't do much good...

EDIT:

I think Jesus's voice was the worst!

TWO VERSIONS??? That would explain why some gamers really hated the voices if they used amateurs in the first version then re-recorded the voices for the new version. Is there anyway we can verify this?

The only sure thing I can verify is that the lead character Jonathan is the same in both versions. The same voice actor that did Assil in Ankh.

Aha! I thought I recognised his voice! I didn't much care for his work in Ankh, either, but because it was a cartoony humorous game it didn't bother me so much I guess. I liked both the Ankh games on the whole.

I guess Belief and Betrayal really divides opinion! I just thought the puzzles were a bit humdrum - there was nothing that made me think outside the box. I loved Jack Keane because it was quirky and a bit different. I usually really like the more serious adventure games with a conspiracy-type twist to them, but this one I couldn't get into at all. The lead character really got on my nerves with his sarcastic rather childish comments. I honestly think that a lot was lost in the translation.

Well, there is this different touch of picking up tasks in your notepad and clicking it on inventory items or people to get the tasks done. Also, the fadeable inventory is nice. And movement is at least much more comfortable to control than in Jack Keane.

So who is the voice actor for Jonathan Danter? And do you know the names of the voice actors for the other characters? The credits don't identify any voice actors in my version of the game at all. A real shame, considering the voice actors are so integral for the game. As much as we may appreciate their work, how many gamers would love to know the names of the testers, artists, etc.

The most extensive list of credits I could find is here. I don't see anything about voice actors, though. wave

Aww... duh I wish they wouldn't do that - leave out the voice actors in the credits. I mean, the story - in fact the whole game - comes alive only because of the voice actors. Bad voice acting can completely ruin the game, just as good voice acting can make even a mediocre game at least a lot more tolerable. Honestly, how many gamers care to know who the beta testers or such were, while many if not most would want to know the people behind the best voices. duh

Thanks for the response though. wave

It won't help you in these particular cases, I think, but two other sites where you can find voice actors for video games are Behind the Voice Actors (link) and more haphazardly the Internet Movie Database.

For instance, Moby Games only lists the Dutch (or, if applicable, Flemish) voice actors for Dracula: The Last Sanctuary, while IMDB lists the English cast.

It's a pity most contributors don't specify the language, like "voice: English version", but you can guess in most cases.

By the way, the IMDB severely restricts the kind of voice credits you can supply for dubbed movies or games. They only allow voice actors for the original language version of the game, with an exception for English actors dubbing roles for the USA release. This is presumably because English versions often get wider exposure than the original language (e.g. Japanese anime and games), and employ some high-profile US names.

Best,

Rich

Thanks, Rich. I really appreciate the info. Sorry for the late response, but Gameboomers doesn't send me email notifications, and I don't come on the forum too often.

Sincerely,

Zurreen
