RPGWatch brings us the sad news that the home of many, many mods for NWN and NWN2, NWN Vault, was shut down today. http://www.rpgwatch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20992

Atari, the publisher and rights holder to NWN and NWN2, has apparently either been declared bankrupt or filed for bankruptcy. The creditors apparantly want to sell off assets and stuff to the highest bidder....

However, someone at NWN Vault has smelled the smoke a long time ago, and built an ark, called neverwintervault.org, link here:
http://neverwintervault.org/

A quote from this new site:

Quote:
I first knew we were in trouble when Maximus accepted my offer to help with what sounded almost like relief.Couldn't be. I just have a vivid imagination. Then we started having probs with email. And with the Hall of Fame. And...Well.I floated the idea of a vault backup, well, a long time ago. Fire extinguisher, sprinklers. Maybe even a safe place to put the files.Last October I was seriously frightened by the things I saw and didn't see, the things everyone heard and the things only I heard.

In other related Atari news, Trent Oster from Beamdog has pulled the BG2: EE from Beamdog's Website as well as the App store.

Quote:
Beamdog suddenly removed the game from its own site and the App Store citing a legal issue with a publishing partner. While CEO Trent Oster told us that there's not much more he can say on the matter, he did reveal that it was at the request of Atari's legal team that the actions were taken.
"At the request of Atari legal we removed the game from sale on Beamdog and the App stores," Oster explained. "

This probably has something to with Atari's bankruptcy as well.

As for the NWN Vault, it is sad to see it go away after many, many years. However, it is nice to see that fans have created a site, http://neverwintervault.org/
for us to visit and download mods etc.

Oh Karsten, huge enormous apology from me to you. My brain blipped and the fingers typed the wrong name. Please forgive my error which I have corrected above. blush

It seems we learn from mistakes even if they're not ours. I had no idea Karsten was a Danish male's name. <g> I've been saved from goofing up on that anyway! Thanks, Loonely! wink
