Has anyone here played this game? If so did you like/hate it. I'm thinking about downloading it from GOG.

Lindy, I see from searching that we have a couple who have played and enjoyed it. A brief comment is here.

There is also One GameBoomer's Review on His Site.

HI - I played it many, many years ago. And there's a reason it is voted one of the best, if not the best rpgs of all time. There are multiple paths of the story, you can take, the characters are very fleshed out, and the floating skull (Morte) has a dry, witted humour. The only problem I see is this: You can only play as a male character in this game. However, the story is so riveting and emotional that you probably won't mind.

You play the Nameless One, who is in search of his past. Basically, you wake up in on a slab in a mortuary when you start the game. And the only thing you can do is to talk to the zombies....then you pick up things. And move around a bit, and get to know a few people. And form a party with them.

And the best part of this is: you can go through the whole game nearly without fighting anyone, provided you have high intelligence, high charisma and wisdom. [Wisdom and Charisma means something in this game...] I think you'd only have to fight, maybe 3 or 4 times if you high Wisdom, Charisma and Intelligence.

ps: beware of the rats in this game. All that you know about rpgs and monsters have gone topsey-turvey in this game. And while we're on this subject, don't be afraid to let The Nameless One die in this game. Death will just return him to the mortuary (from the start of the game) and it also has a very memorable effect...

I'll say: go for it. The story is great. And as I recall i from other who have finished the game (I sadly never got around to it, because my old computer broke down....), the ending is one of the best, if not the best ending in an crpg - ever.

Thank you L4L. That one Review was a interesting read.

Thank you Karsten. I don't mine playing a Male character and it's nice to know that dying "might be a good thing".

GOG has it on sale for $4.99 so I'm going for it.

If you like it, there are plans for a sequel that successfully funded on Kickstarter earlier this year. puppy

Downloading went great. Played some last night, lots of dialogue to read. I notice that my "quick save" isn't saving so need to read the forums. Otherwise I like the game.

I haven't used them, but my son has used the widescreen mod and he said it made quite the difference. If it were me, I would also install (at the very least) the Ultimate Fixpack as well. wave

Does anyone here know how to "talk" to your companions. The manual tells me nothing. I think I knew in the beginning of the game, but forgot. LOL

I think what you do is to right-click and then pick the dialogue bubble option, then click it on the character you wish to talk to. wave

Marian,

The mods you sent a link to worked beautifully on my 1600x900 monitor. Thank you!

Now, if I can just figure out all those controls! grin

Gil.

Gil, I agree with you on the controls. I installed the FixPix mod, but not the one for the Resolutions. There is one NPC that I had a very hard time seeing, maybe that patch would have helped me. Well, to late now for I'm not going to start over for the third time. wave

That's great news, Gil. thumbsup

Good luck with the controls. It's a far cry from searching for hidden objects; that's for sure. grin

I finished the game. My character was a lvl 31 fighter at the end. I did enjoy playing, but controlling a party of 6 was hair pulling at times. One was always dying. The next time through I may play as a mage. wave

WooHoo Lindy and thumbsup Did controlling the party get easier as you progressed through the game?

What is the minimum sized party you think you could complete the game with?

I think four would do it. One mage, two fighters, and a thief. The priest was the one who kept dying. She did have good healing spells, but trying to heal everyone she just got in the way.

Lindy, you do know that you can pause the game by pressing the spacebar? If the combat is too hard for you, you're welcome to turn it down to say easy or vey easy.

And yes, 4 characters is the minimum party, I'd finish this game with. I'm playing Icewind Dale 2 at the moment, and much to my astonishment, Black Isle had made it so that you need to search for traps etc. And how succesfull you are at this depends on your intelligence ability; same goes for disabling any devices. Can't remember if it is the same in Planescape, though.

Brilliant story. The combat is pretty awful, though, but the dialogue and companions make it worth while.

Are they dead? Yes. Unlike you they have but one life...and they wasted it for your sake!
