I downloaded this game with no problem and it plays rather nicely on my newer computer (Although as yet I have no clear idea what I'm supposed to do) However, I have, twice now, accidently hit the F1 key (It's right next to the escape key) and gone to some scematic-type artwork for the game. That's a minor inconvenience. However, I can't get out of that scene and must start all over. That's a LARGE inconvenience. Is there a way to either turn off the F1 key or to get back into the game after hitting said key? Thanks

Did you try hitting the F1 key again to get out.
Just a thought. I haven't played the game.

Thanks Cathy1, but I tried that several times. It wouldn't change until I exited the game and restarted play.

Haze, what you're seeing is the wireframe version of a scene, it something a 3D artist uses to construct the game screen you see.

In the 3D programs I've been playing with, the Esc key usually toggles between the wireframe and the rendered image--in this case the game scene.

If you hit the F1 key again, try pressing the Esc key and see if it doesn't take you back to the game screen. If the Esc key doesn't work, try the next F key until you get to F12. Something has to allow the artist to re-enter the game screen to view any changes.

Has anyone who has this game contacted the seller to let them know about this problem? Anyone?

I dont know the cure for your problem but I do know this would probably help.

I use the computer in a semi-lit room and this helps.

For Homer6; I tried your idea. For what it's worth, I couldn't get out except for the F7 key which took me to some really strange place where there were no shadows and there was no darkness. There was also no hand cursor. All in all, I still love the game but will save often (With only three save slots!) and avoid the F1 key.

I don't have the game but is there a readme document about controls for the game? Or a helpme option in the game describing the controls?

What it boils down to is this: During game development, there are control keys programmed into the program that lets people access whatever aspect of the game they need to check. The F1 key is a prime example. This key, as I've said in previous posts, lets someone view the wireframe portion of this or that within the game. Other keys may be used to check other aspects of the game.

But when the game if ready for release, all those development extras should be removed before the game is sent out to the public. If this is done, then pressing any key other than those used to control game play will have no affect.

Those of you who purchased the game and hit the F1 key have found this was not done.

It will take a patch from the seller/developer to straighten out this problem. And only if buyers let the seller/developer know there is a problem.

Homer6,

There is a patch on neeblagames website. One of the things it lists is, "Removed debug keys." Would that take care of the F1 key problem?

Wouldn't that jar your mustard!

The game has been crashing a lot for me. I hope they fix this in a patch because I have to restart my PC every time it happens.

Sounds like they removed some of them but not all.
They mistakenly left in the wireframe key but took out the all-important key to return to the game.

Jenny100 crazyThanks for the info, but that really sounds odd. They attempted to repair a bad situation and proceeded to make it worse? Perhaps they should run for elected office.

I'm just guessing, Haze. But if that's not what happened, why would there not be a key to get back in the game after entering wireframe?

Jema, that sound like what's needed. Though until you download and run the patch you won't know--unless there's more information that lists the specific debug keys it removes.

After running the patch hit the F1 key. If nothing happens then the dreaded F1 key has been neutralized.

Haze, I've not been in the situation but it is possible to believe every piece of testing code has been removed when a game is shipped. My guess is that since they were under the gun to get it fixed and resent, they missed a thing or two. One being what people have found, an active F1 key.

Back in the 8 bit computer days, I used to enter code from Analog magazine. It was kind of fun but a pain if one line was entered incorrectly or characters got transposed. And it was very easy to miss the error. These programs were for 8 bit machines, and had maybe 100 lines of code. Imagine how many lines of code there are for 32 and 64 bit machines with all the fancy graphics cards available.

Missing something in all that code is easy to do. I'm amazed that someone can do it in the first place.

Thanks for info., Homer6. I'll give it a try tomorrow. After the Spartans lost to Ohio State, I am much too gloomy to proceed today (Sigh!)

crazy Well, there is more to relate. I downloaded the patch and it seems to have "Unfunctioned" the F1 key. I don't get the strange schematic now. The game also appears to run a bit more smoothly. However, it now won't go to the full screen version which it had before the patch. Now it's only at about two-thirds size. I have no idea how to, or I can, adjust that situation. Any more thoughts?

Are there any in-game resolution settings?

I fear my age has atrophied part of my brain. Yes, InlandAZ, there are resolution settings which allowed me to set the game at full screen. Thanks for the suggestion. Hopefully now I can play without irritataion.

By the way, despite all the rather careless problems I've had, this is still the game I've been waiting for since I first finished RIVEN. It's great fun. smile
