I received two games for Christmas.

-Dear Esther: I can only get the sound and picture. I am unable to manipulate my cursor to play the game. This game was downloaded from HumbleBundle. Just before final installation I get the following message - " create process failed; code 740 and the requested operation requires elevation."

Amnesia-The Dark Descent: I can only get the sound, no picture therefore, I can't manipulate the cursor.

Please help.

It sounds like your video card isn't up to playing these games. The Amnesia game site says "Integrated graphics will likely not work. Low cost video cards may perform worse, or not work at all, even if they are much newer than older medium to high range cards." The Dear Esther requirements seem to be higher:
"Graphics: DirectX 9 compliant video card with Shader model 3.0 support. NVidia 7600, ATI X1600 or better (Pre-Sandybridge Intel graphics chipsets not yet supported)"

What video card do you have?
If you don't know, run the DirectX diagnostic Tool to check:
Click the Start button in the lower left of your desktop screen. Type
dxdiag
in the Start Search and OK it. Type in your password if it prompts you to.
Select the Display tab.
We need the Name: of the card and the Chipset:

Thanks. I was able to get Dear Esther to play after the 5th download. There was an extremely slow reaction to the key editing.

My computer is a 2011 Toshiba Satellite P755, Windows 7
Total memory 1696MB, current display 1366x768(32bit)(60Hz)
Chipset-Intel(R) HDGraphics family

And there's a good chance therein lies your problem with Amnesia Dark Descent. This laptop has Intel HD graphics integrated into the Core i3 or i5 Processor (Sandy Bridge). It most likely won't play any games that need dedicated graphics.

Gardens put to bed for the winter. Time for some gaming!
