Virtual PC 2007 SP1 will work on Windows 7 64bit. You use a different installer if you have 32bit. If you get a confusing box while installing, this is what it's about http://blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/a...e-editions.aspxXP Mode seems to only be available for the Pro version of Windows 7. But you can install any older Windows in Virtual PC as long as you have the CD's. Metzo has a howto for installing Virtual PC 2007 ***here***

Or if by compatibility mode, you mean the ability to right click on a game and select a compatibility mode to run a game in, then yes it does. You right click on a game executable, select Troubleshoot Compatibility and follow the prompts. It's helped me play quite a few older games on both Windows 7 and Windows 8.
As Jenny and mj2c say, XP Mode (which involves downloading and installing XP using virtualization software such as Windows Virtual PC) is only available in Windows 7 Pro. However, it does not support 3D and is not suitable for gaming. It is intended to run legacy software in business environments. XP Mode in Windows 7 Pro will also no longer be supported by Microsoft after April 7th.
Once again, weeds are my life!

However, it does not support 3D and is not suitable for gaming. It is intended to run legacy software in business environments. XP Mode in Windows 7 Pro will also no longer be supported by Microsoft after April 7th. While it doesn't support 3D Acceleration, it does support the DirectX API - so games that don't require it (like The Black Mirror) will play just fine. For those that do require 3D Acceleration you can use VMware Player and Windows XP.
