I downloaded Syberia from GOG and have played it twice to the point in Valadiene where you have to play the voice cylinder in the player in the bookshelf in Anna's office. The game freezes up when you place the voice cylinder in the player. I reloaded the game and got the same result. I read about a patch from the Adventure Company site, but it no longer exists. Help any one?

The patch from The Adventure Company was to prevent the game from using more than one processor or core or Hyperthreading -- which caused errors because the game wasn't made to handle more than one processor.
You can get the same result by using compatibility mode.

GOG should have the patched version of the game already, and by putting an old patch from the now-defunct Adventure Company website you run the risk of getting an "insert CD" error when you start the game.

If you REALLY want to try that old patch, you can find it at the web archive ***here***
I tested the link (the "HERE" near the bottom of the archived page), and it does work to download a 3.7 MB file called Syberia_sp3.exe

Orfyn,

When you have a problem with a game you downloaded from GOG, go to your game shelf, click on the game and scroll down to the bar at the bottom where you'll see Forum, Support, Reviews, then click on Forum.
Chances are pretty good you'll find an answer there.

I just checked the forum and saw this.
Someone solved the problem with the voice cylinder in Valadilene; I hope it works for you.

Gil.

Well, I found the files in question, but the GOG people have already applied those fixes to the three files. Any other ideas?

In that case, Orfyn, I'd put in a support ticket at GOG.

Gil.

I would too... But make sure you are playing the game on a supported OS.

For any one else with this problem: The good people at GOG came up with the solution. In the version I downloaded, the files had already been changed from ANC2_etc, ANC5_etc and ANC10_etc to C2_etc/C5/C10 as discussed previously in this thread. However, they were in the Video folder of the game. The solution was to create a folder, title it AN, move the three files in question to that folder. Then p[lace that folder into the Video folder. Presto! the game works now! Thanks to every one for their help and suggestions.

The GOG forum is great, isn't it, Orfyn?
I'm glad mich9l6ngelo had the solution for you!
