Just in case someone posts there is a problem with sound on their steam version... if you have a stand alone video card you may have to tweak the settings...
This is what I did:
Just in case someone posts at Wadjet regarding Steam. I had shut down game.. go into steam library find my game... I think I right clicked and it took me to settings. I had to go to the advanced and set my game graphics differently as there was no sound. I have a stand alone video card... so there may be people not knowing what to do.

how my set up looks

Do you remember which settings you changed?

On the advance settings.. The bottom choice.. Direct Sound Mixer... the bottom one then
the second option: win32midi

how my setup looks

Thanks for this info, Winfrey. I bought my copy of the game from GOG, and so far, NO sound problems at all.

You fixed the sound by changing the Technobabylon sound to use Win32 MIDI mapper?
I would not expect a modern game to be using that.

I went back and changed the win32 to win32 midi manager no problem... so it is the direct sound hardware mixer that did it... when I changed that back to default... no sound so the direct sound hardware manager is the one giving me sound

That would make more sense.
The game music certainly doesn't sound like Windows midi (which sounds terrible).

Uh OH, I spoke too soon. I have the GOG version of the game, and something strange is happening. Right from the start when I gain control of the subject, there are NO items or objects to interact with, no DOOR, no PANEL. Only thing that works is walking around. I contacted GOG Support, and I'm waiting for a reply concerning this problem. BTW, the DEMO worked perfectly for me from start to finish.Hope I will get some kind of a "FIX" from GOG very soon. Very disappointing, I must say. Oh yes, the sound is very good, anyway, at least.
Sandy

OOPS, my problem is solved, the problem being ME this time. The game is actually running fine now. I already have apologized to GOG support, and I apologize to YOU, my fellow Boomers, for "raising an alarm" unnecessarily.
