Benoit Sokal's Paradise

I've been playing this game for nearly a week but when it was finished i had mixed feelings about it. It is no doubt a beautiful game, a good adventure, but something was missing. Throughout the game, the story was fascinating and i felt sympathy for Ann. But i don't understand why it had to end the way it did.

Maybe i am comparing this game too much with Syberia 1 and 2. But these games had both an ending that was logical and acceptable.
Paradise leaves me a little puzzled here.

Anyway, in spite of some bugs in this game and the unsatisfying end, i still would recommend this game to everyone.

Hi Dineke--Thanks for the review wave

It sounds as if you enjoyed it. I am trying to find time to play it.

I agree, it is beautiful!

I had great expectations when I started this game. I'm a fan of Benoit Sokal's games. I loved the two Syberia games, and enjoyed Amerzone very much.

I did not enjoy playing Paradise. I was terribly disappointed, and sometimes incredibly bored while playing this game. frown I don't think the graphics are beautiful, because they're all drab and nearly colorless. The story is confusing and makes no sense, made worse by the bizarre ending.

Maybe I'm war-weary, but this game and its politics and war talk made me depressed. I play adventure games to escape from ordinary life and have fun. The only thing I found interesting was what Benoit Sokal does so well... the unique and creative, fantasy creatures (animals) that inhabit the African location. I also think it was nice to see an African-American girl as the main character in a game.

In the UbiSoft forum for this game, there's a thread to post the glitches and bugs you find while playing it. eek That's because the game is loaded with glitches and bugs. I can't remember playing a game with so many obvious technical flaws. If I were Benoit Sokal, I'd be embarrassed to be associated with it. duh

Katsmom, do you think you did not enjoy the game because of the war talk or the glitches or a combination of several elements?

A combination of all of the elements.. plus the fact that I paid $40.00 to buy it new in the store.

It was interesting the way they used the black leopard in the game's interface. Too bad the leopard became silent (or missing) and uninteresting during the game itself... duh

Darlene, did you patch it before you started playing?

I started it but then got sidetracked. I will patch it before I finish.

I love the menu screen wink

Hi smile

'Fraid I really can't give Paradise much praise at all frown

Despite using the patch, the game was buggy for me from the word go .... navigation being a major hassle in some areas

And total machine lock ups ??
A serious "No Thank You" as far as I'm concerned eek

I did find the story interesting at the start and it held my attention for quite a while but not the later chapters. Unenthralled is how I felt about them.
In fact the whole experience gradually deteriorated into "one of those games to plod through" for the sake of getting to see the ending.

And the ending ???? Hated it mad

Cheers.

Hi Mad smile

As i said, an unsatisfying end. I still don't understand why it has to be so. I was lucky to experience very little bugs myself, comparing to others. But as an adventure in general it's guite a good game. I found the enviroment beautiful. Thanks for sharing your thoughts wave
