Limbo of the Lost - 12/02/07 02:36 AM

Is anyone playing this game? I'm stuck on Chapter 2, the sewers. I have released Quagmire and given Nora the liquor. There is a metal gate in the first "hole" that I don't have a key for and the water is flowing where the boat is, but I can't use it, the 3rd "hole" is open, but I can't go in. Also, there is a chain on the ground where Quagmire was, but I can't seem to do anything with this either. Don't know what I'm missing. Thanks for any help.

Limbo of the Lost - 12/04/07 02:57 AM

Stuck again already. I'm playing the chapter (3) with Darkmere and can't progress. There are no more characters left to talk to at the point I'm at. Abattoir, Stables, and Society Hall are locked. There's also the "Dead End" and "?????" left on list of places in notebook. The victims I've encountered are
Click to reveal..
the one at very beginning, the one at stables, the blind beggar and the pie lady
I have various things from victims in inventory
Click to reveal..
glasses, cork, hat, inn key, cane, chain, orb, leather purse and apron, hay, etc
Is there anything to find in the Inn? Am I supposed to be trying to "open" the dead end yet? What am I missing? Thanks for any help.

I merged your 2 threads together. Please use this thread for any other questions about the game. We use one thread per game and it helps us see the progress of the game and help given. also it doesn't push another active thread off the first page. Thanks.

Let's wait for a gamer that is playing it to help you.

You should be able to open any locked door the way we normally do in adventure games.

Pre Game Hints

The Manual is a .pdf file on the DVD. It is not the readme file. Copy it to your hard drive and Read it carefully.

Sometimes, even big strong men will

jump onto the nearest chair
when they are alone in a room with

something they are uncomfortable with.... say a spider ... a mouse .... or something scwaking in a cage made of crow bones.

--- okokokokok
another hint ---

When I was a child, a had a horrible fear of birds. My mother loved them though, and we had a cage full of canaries in our music room. The only way I would even consider entering the music room was if my mother did something to the cage to calm the birds --- what did she do?

Re: Limbo of the Lost - 12/06/07 12:18 AM

okokok (i love that)
the problem is i have nothing in my inventory in which to do that (calming thing), sooo I must be missing something else. I know i'm not that stupid, i just know it!
Posted By: bombou

Re: Limbo of the Lost - 12/06/07 12:24 AM

What the Captain says is:"I'm not carrying that,at least until he stops moving" So I was thinking I had to calm down the woodgator. But how? My first option was the chloroform but it fits for a different purpose in the game. The second one was the spear to pick up the cage far from the beast. No way. The third one was...wait a minute,I don't have a third option. Maybe clicking on everything and combining objects at random? No,I hate to do that and this is not that kind of a game. But my head is actually empty...

Re: Limbo of the Lost - 12/06/07 12:31 AM

Pre Game Hints

No you aren't stupid at all. Just because you don't have it in your inventory doesn't mean that you can't help the good Captain find something useful to use. Search every where again and find what you need.

It's all there waiting for you to find it.

Remember -- that this game is truly in the style of the old classics. Search carefully in all the nooks and crannys. Sometimes
Click to reveal..
it wil be a pixel hunt -- sometimes not --- remember that things aren't always what they seem. --- sometimes it will be labled --- sometimes they won't be --- leave no stone unturned -- no staircase untrod -- no sides of walls untouched no matter how dark and slimy or what might be attached to them

Chapter 2 --- The Sewers
Hi Dylan's mom

You are still missing some items from
Click to reveal..
the sewers
Think -- Think --- Think.

If you read the manual on the DVD (it's a PDF File) it tells you how to work your inventory completely. What would happen if you tried to
Click to reveal..
right click on some of your items
to bring up the
Click to reveal..
Ouija Board
and then choose the one of the main options ---

It isn't the lower left
or for that matter, the lower right.
Choose the correct one
and hold on tight.

Now examine this new object
Yes, that's what you should do...
For looking at it closer
Will give the Captain an important clue.

Is there someone here annoying?
Someone who's not so kind?
Who, soon as you try to talk with him
He tosses Briggs out you'll find!

Perhaps if you direct the Captain
to sneak up from behind
And reach into the inventory
and somehow make him blind.

Then in the room,
the Captain may search
to find things to free Quagmire
From his stolid perch.

Thanks for the praise --- but that isn't what I said. With regard to this particular adventure, I mentioned in a PM that "I" would not be writing one for this particular game.

I have written a number of walkthroughs for other games, and I have always appreciated those who do as well and I do advocate thier use. 'nuff said and I hope that will put and end to it. This forum is for hints and help only and not for game discussion.

Chapter 3 -- Darkmere

First -- I would imagine that if the Town Hall is not crossed out then you need to go back there

Remember that just because something was closed once doesn't necessarily follow that it will remain closed. Revisit all places.

What do you have in the inventory?

No,you're not. Remember that this is a game based on adventuring in the "classic style" you must truly think -- recall and deduce to help the Captain move forward. These puzzles are devious --- so you must be devious as well. Yes, a few of the hotspots are very tiny for some of the hidden items... but they are there if you know where to look.

Now think --- what do you see outside

the third grate
? There is something there now that wasn't there before.

heavy isn't it? The Captain can't pick it up so obviously he needs help -- Someone offered him help by the way of her "pets" --- She told him how to call them, didn't she?

Yes, you know what you need, but how to make it? Now, back in the 1860's what material would a sailor use to make one? What tool would he have to use as well? Think -- Think -- Think.
The captain already has the "tool" -- where could he find the material? It would be
Click to reveal..
very small --- probably a "sliver" -- perhaps from a corner or side of a small hidden shelf or table?
Where did you see one in your travels in this level?

Hi Trisha,

Sorry you are stuck here is a nudge
Click to reveal..
The torch is damp! You need to use something with it so it will be able to light!

You should have this item already in your inventory as it is easily seen and collected near the room by Cranny!

If you still can't find the way then post again but the torch only needs somthing used with it so as to be able to light it.

Hope this helps.

Re: Limbo of the Lost - 12/18/07 09:32 PM

Glad I have been of some help Trisha and thanks to all the other boomers for there help also! I will say this, the game does get a lot harder and you do need to write down what characters say as there are many important clues in what they say and also to save regularly as then you can re-visit a scene if you have missed some dialogue as this is very important "Search every Nook and every Cranny" no pun intended! Keep the faith and you will progress. If you get stuck or any other boomers for that fact then drop a line and I will give you a hint! Please though do explore all avenues as I don't want to spoil the game for any of you for any reason.

Best wishes,

Pre Game Hints

To all else starting this adventure ---
remember to read BOTH manuals -- the paper one and the .PDF file on the DVD. There are lots of inside hints. Remember --- you and you alone are what stands between FATE and DESTINY for the good Captain. Remember that things may not be always what they seem.
Listen carefully and heed well what each of the characters say --- read every thing you can --- especially when in inventory.
Make sure that you have viewed the other DVD --- it will give you some intuitive insights. Remember also that the first level is more of a tutorial on how the game is played and the psyche of how the puzzle developer thinks.... (giggle, giggle -- sorry Tim. but you know fine well that you are indeed one devious cookie!)

Use your Ouija board functions on everything in the Captain's inventory. And remember --- there are no "pixel hunts" really --- just very subtle and evil hiding places, after all this is the citadel of the netherworld. You can't expect it to play like an ND game.

Trisha what you need to do is read the earlier posts in this thread for the clues. You still have much to collect. Revisit each nook and cranny ---> When the Captain is in the centre of one place, try making him walk to the far left or right even though it may look like the isn't a next room. You'd be surprised what you may find. Remember not just to use that "Take" function of the Ouija board for sometimes you must first click on a seemingly "innocent" item (say a large jug on the floor) and "Take" may not work ---> but "action" will or vise-versa.

Remember that this is not an easy adventure ---> it isn't meant to be ... and there is something of a perverse joy in that.

Chapter 1 --- The Lower Reaches

The Captain, you know, is quite sqeamish they say
When creepie and Crawlies do pass his way.
So what have you found that might do the trick
To capture the **** grub and not make him sick?

Nothing, I've Nothing!
Is that what you cry?
Perhaps one more trip to O'Negus
Will help you get by.

You must use something strong
to put ickle baby to sleep
For Briggs will not touch it
Yet in glass it might keep

Then once in Dreamland
tucked fastly away
On a sphere made of glass
Will Briggs allows it to play.

Look close at the grub
after it dies
Now take it to the Human Arachnoid
who really loves flies.

Chapter 1 - The Lower Reaches

Look to the Ravens, each a Siamese twin
Save the Good Chief from their cauwing
And you'll find his good graces
Briggs soon will be in

As Goliath before David
So stands the Raven on high
Make ready the "I" cannon
Take aim, let loose! Watch it fly!

A gift made of bones
Will be yours soon to share
For soon Briggs will place
The woodgator there.

On the way to the place
Where this Raven doth perch,
A statue resides,
Awaiting the good Captain's lurch.

A container of gold,
The prize if his aim be true.
A liquid though thick will this vessel hold
'Tis an obvious clue.

A rusty chain
In need of lubrication
Wood that is ground for
The gators mastication.

Now put these together
Combine as you will
And soon you will find
The cage easy to fill.

You need something else
To accomplish this task
Once you find what you need
In its glory you'll bask.

From the Shackled Soul
Who gave you a clue
Four times to the North
Then East is what you must do.

The chamber he spoke of
Shows three exits there
To open the first one
You must have a care.

An item you have with you
Will help you decide
The opposite numbers
Then in you will glide.

Re: Limbo of the Lost - 12/19/07 08:13 PM

Hi all,
I finally had a chance to get back to this most interesting game. I am in Chapt. 1.
I have been able to do some things, but haven't figured out others....For example,
Click to reveal..
I have fed the dogs and opened the tall grates to explore those areas. I have found the woodgator and have cage and cover, but I can't get him to interact with me yet. (need to find wood to give him, no doubt) I have a sleepy grub to add to the wood for him so I can feed him to Arach. I have found the guardian whose language I can't understand and there is still a locked door by Arach. I am not exactly sure who Quagmire is or where the "war room" with a picture is located. (perhaps the locked door?.) I know that I want to switch the "soul bottles" in the library, or whatever it is called. I have no rusty knife or dice.
As others have said, a nudge would be really helpful as to what to do next.
Thanks to all of you who have posted, I have re-read most of the previous posts, I'll have a look at the most recent ones also. bravo

Re: Limbo of the Lost - 12/19/07 08:30 PM

Hi Gaily, you have read posts that apply to other later levels so try not to get yourself confused here. you are on the right track and inferno has posted some excellent material by the way of Rhyme's to assist you and others!! You need to take it level by level so try not to read "Spoilers that might affect your enjoyment in later levels! It would be good in my opinion if when hints are given that they state what level name they apply to so that people in earlier levels do not become confused etc As they would end up searching for a place or item that doesn't exist in that level. This is in no means a put down to the excellent posts made by other boomers in the way of help to other boomers but more so of a bit of advice so that people do not become confused as to where they are, who they should expect to meet or items they need to collect to progress.

I do hope that all who read this post can see what I mean? inferno knows the way and by way of her excellent riddles and rhyme's she is the light that shall show the way!! Just make sure you are reading the input that applies to the right level or you will all surely become "Lost in Limbo" !!

A very Happy Christmas and New Year to all of the game boomers community.

We hope that you enjoy the game?

Season's greetings,

MOTRAU

Re: Limbo of the Lost - 12/19/07 08:54 PM

Motrau, Sorry, I am not nearly as creative and poetic as our beloved Inferno, but I do try and help if I can.

It is always good advice to only read the responses that pertain to where you need help in any game.

On the other hand, it has been stated way too many times to use hints sparingly in this game. While I absolutely am loving the game and have only needed a couple nudges, others may need more. This game is no different from any other game that the developers have poured their blood, sweat and tears into. If you want and need a hint, go for it. As long as you enjoy the game that is all that matters. I'm really tired of hearing that this game is somehow different than others...it's good. Period. It's still a game, just as any other game, except that different people made it. Can we just start acting like it's a game and not something that needs to be in a sterile environment while you play.

MaG and Sue, Please feel free to edit me, but honestly, I am trying to help and I'm sick to death of all the "special rules" that come with this game. It is totally ruining the experience.

Re: Limbo of the Lost - 12/19/07 09:16 PM

No problem, Ana since I agree with you.

The tenet of the game is "Make the gamers feel like they are in Limbo.
Limbo is the state of not knowing before being redeemed.
It is what the developers want and that is what they endorse.

BTW - Use the spoiler bar only if it is a spoiler. Hints are just that hints.

Chapter One - The Lower Reaches

Look to the Cage
for a place for the food.
Or less a bite
which could be quite rude!

And once it is caught
Asleep should it be
As the Captain is squeamish
and well should he be.

So how should the sleep
Can the Captain incur?
A cover perchance,
But where to procure?

Look to the dark,
At bottom down left shall ye go!
And tear at the fabric
the beast won't be a foe.

Re: Limbo of the Lost - 12/19/07 10:58 PM

Motrau if you don't mind, we'll run the forum the way we desire to run it.
If Ana wants to take time to help us then it's appreciated. So are the hints and help given by all the members that are or have played it.
This spoiler business that you insist is so necessary for your game is really becoming a pain as are the constant reminders about them. We are all adults and we WILL play the game any way that we desire.
This is a game, it's not a contest to see if we stay alive for another five hours without cheating on something.
People paid money to own the game, if they want to play it by reading every hint, every spoiler so be it. It was their money!

Re: Limbo of the Lost - 12/19/07 11:39 PM

You need to take apart the jaw brace (use the Ouija board) and it will make something else. You then need to think if there is anyone that you'd like to have dissappear to use the contraption on. See if this can get you going for awhile.

Happy gaming,

Actually that isn't correct
Here are the Chapters you are working on so fare
  • The Prologue --- The Lower Dungeons (remember "The Brew"?)
  • (Chapter 1 -- The Lower Reaches (werein resides the now imfamous W.G)
  • (Chapter 2 -- The Sewers (Quagmire)
  • Chapter 3 -- Darkmere (a simple small town)

There are more after this -- but this thread has not discussed them yet.

That was at the begining of Chapter 1 -- The Lower Reaches.

Why would you put the metal jaw clamp on a worm? What Worm?

What you wish to do is

First right click on the
Click to reveal..
jaw clamp and then select action
This will change it --- read what it becomes in your inventory.

Now in the hint that I gave you --- I told you that there is some one not something that keeps making Briggs leave. Make surethat you have visited all the places in Sewer 1 more than once. He is a very

Re: Limbo of the Lost - 12/20/07 01:50 AM

I am losing the will to game. I feel I am wandering aimlessly just trying everything with everything and coming up empty.

I have all 3 sewers open. I am carrying broken nail, rusty knife, hammer, fishing line, whistle, metal cutters and the things you start with. I have blown the whistle, the ball is gone.

I still need to open the gates in sewer 1. Both are locked. I found the boat but there is no water. I can't get into sewer 3. duh

My enthusiasm is waning at this point so a giant push will do me fine.

EDIT: Trish I tried blind folding the worm (keeper of the gates) too. You aren't alone.

Thanks...

Chapter 2 The Sewers

Into Sewer One is where Briggs must go
There is only one gate which will open, you know.
Look to Gate at the far right
The key is not far
'Tis guarded by Trisha's Worm
which will soon have no sight.

Let it attack
As it is just full of bluster
Then look to the ledge
Briggs courage will muster.

Twice the Keeper did show Briggs
And well did he see.

Clue 2 charges Briggs
To add these three digits

Great Quagmire free
Soon disappears quick
But as he leaves
An iron ball he will kick.

A gift he will give to open Grate Three
Its metal with prongs like a thistle
But Briggs can't pass through
So, what should he do?
I guess he'll just stand there and whistle.

For the ball is too heavy
(like a '69 Chevy)
So you see he needs some assistance
Here come Nora's rats

Re: Limbo of the Lost - 12/20/07 05:59 AM

Chapter 2 The Sewers

So into the first Grate
With the "Hammer of Thor"
Through the Power room gate
And down to the Spigot.

The hammer he'll pound
Then the steam will exbound
and move this ball
With the speed of a frigate.

Now what to do?
Has Briggs tried Sewer Two?
Find the Ball and then call back the rat!
Pull the drunk with the chain
Hit that control pad again
And hold on to your hat.

Now the Water is high
to the boat Briggs should fly
Help him in so he can quickly row
There's no question or care
'cept to get out of there
It's all done like a box with a bow.

Sit back, your work all is done.
Now wasn't that fun?
Heave to with a sigh and a snivel
You've got no more to do
So relax for a minute or two
For you're now at the very next Level.

In honor to boomers

were taunted, tormented, but not
ultimately foiled.

They who persisted,
persevered and prevailed
felt proud and so pleased
they could not be derailed.

With help from inferno,
who reriddled and rhymed,
with repute and readiness,
she urged - use the mind!!

And despite all intentions,
thought improper and incensed,
we inhaled and inquired,

I will close this thread. It is getting long.

Please start a new thread if you have additional questions.

Also please use the spoiler tag only when it is really a spoiler - a solution to a complicated puzzle. There are spoiler tags here in this thread that are overkill. Picking up things, inventory and where they are are not spoilers.

Hints are just that hints. Feel free to post them as is.

Hints guide the gamer. Spoilers are solutions to the puzzle.
Some solution does not need to be in spoiler tags too.

Thanks and remember - playing a game is supposed to be fun - So ENJOY and do not feel that you have to struggle to get through the game.
