The Raven

I have just started playing this game and somehow managed to blow up the train long before I completed most of the tasks required prior to the explosion. I checked the walkthrough and found that most of the tasks, such as returning the purse, talking to the violinist, talking to the doctor, etc etc should have been done before the explosion. My question; is this game linear or will I have some other opportunity to complete these tasks, or do I need to start over?

Those are optional things to do in the game. Missing them out shouldn't cause a dead end, but it might not be possible to do them now that the train has blown up.

When I played Chapter 1, I didn't manage to find the purse, but all that transpired was that I received a scolding about it from another character in the next chapter.

I suppose that gives the game an extra edge of replayability.
