harvester - 05/26/14 04:49 AM

Hi, I picked this crazy game up a couple of weeks ago and started playing yesterday. I think I'm stuck trying to scratch Mr Johnson's car. Any hints or tips for me?

So far I killed him two times and then got the electric chair and he killed me once. I've also been shot and blew the town up a few times. On that note I'd also like to ask if you know whether saved games can be written over because I'm sure to run out of save spaces.

Re: harvester - 05/26/14 05:07 AM

I'm not sure if you can overwrite saves in this game or not, but I suspect that you probably can; I can't think of any game I have ever played where I was unable to do this. Maybe another player can tell you for sure.

You should be trying to scratch the car at night rather than during the day.

I don't want to give spoilers so I am trying to keep this vague. Have you figured out what you use to scratch the car? Have you gotten into the garage?

You can also make a new folder, label it with description and then copy - paste your old saves in there to preserve it if needed. You can then overwrite the old ones. You can copy back those saved games to original place if needed. luck

Re: harvester - 05/26/14 08:19 PM

Okay, thanks to both of you regarding the saves.

Marian, at this point I was thinking I'd use a key to scratch the car. I'm not really getting very far and can't get to Tuesday night. Monday night came and went without me being able to do anything.

I've been getting myself killed a lot, sometimes on purpose, and going back in trying different things. It's gotten to where I'm not sure what's been done at certain saves. I think I am going to start again at the beginning of Tuesday and see what happens. There is really only one big thing that I can think of that I'll have to re-do, everything else has just been trial and error (as far as I can tell anyway).

At this point, I appreciate the vagueness.

I'm sure I'll be back!

Well, I've been playing all day. Replaying doing things differently. I found a couple of different things but nothing that is moving me forward.

I don't know if there is any vague guidance you can give or if I should just take a look at the walkthrough.

Thanks for trying to help me!

Re: harvester - 05/27/14 01:52 AM

I'll be more specific and yet still vague. wink

According to the walkthrough I am looking at, scratching the car occurs on day 2 at night. The walkthrough first has you going to the cemetery at night, watching something, then doing some talking, and then picking up an item. Then you move on to Johnson's residence and do a few things, get into the garage, do a few things, and then scratching the car.

Re: harvester - 05/27/14 02:48 AM

Ok Marian. If I can find my way into the night, I'll be alright!

Thanks. I'll let you know. Back to work tomorrow so not sure how much I'll be able to play. Going back to it now for awhile though.

Hi Marian,

Just letting you know that last night I finally made it into Wednesday. There were some items I had not found and that was why I couldn't progress.

Stand by and Thanks!

Good for you! Good luck with Wednesday. smile

Re: harvester - 06/02/14 12:21 AM

Still stuck in Wednesday. I'm sure I know what I need; don't know how to get it.

Re: harvester - 06/02/14 12:23 AM

Well, I can always take a look at the walkthrough and give you one of my vague rambles, if needed. Good luck. smile

Re: harvester - 06/02/14 04:27 AM

Marian, please ramble. Still can't get anywhere.

Thanks!

Re: harvester - 06/02/14 05:13 AM

There's stuff you accomplish in the morning on day 3 and also stuff you accomplish at night. You need to talk to several people during the day including mom, Hank, Edna, Mr. Pottsdam, Johnson, and Pat. Your main goals are to save Karin and to find tools for breaking into the fire station. At different points, you are going to need to go to the cemetery, the diner, and the general store, among other places.

What I just said here probably won't be any help at all, so let me know if you want me to get more specific in terms of the initial steps/actions you need to perform.

Re: harvester - 06/03/14 03:04 AM

Thanks Marian. Didn't get around to playing tonight but hopefully tomorrow I can.

Seems to me I did all of the above except I don't know who Pat is.

I will let you know!

Re: harvester - 06/06/14 03:51 AM

Hi Marian. I guess you better get a little more specific. I just can't get anything else. Talked to all those people and been to all those places. Found and returned the girl, bought some stuff at the store. Played off one save several different ways, different conversations, same results.

I'm assuming I need meat but cannot figure out how to get it. Maybe my subconscious just does not want that particular meat!

Re: harvester - 06/06/14 03:31 PM

I'll give you some steps for after you have returned the girl and then maybe we can see what you are missing.

Click to reveal..
Bring her to her mom. Receive the reward money. Ask Pottsman about it. He'll keep denying it. Go to the school. Break the fire alarm. It should attract the fireman's attention. Go to the fire station. Get the fire axe and the ladder from the garage. Go back to your house. Use the dolly with the shelves. Hey, it's an alarm button. Turn off the alarm.
Go out. Use the phillips screwdriver with the security bar at the window. Enter
the room. Talk to your father. He'll sign up the meat slip.

Re: harvester - 06/07/14 01:21 AM

Hi Marian,

I only looked at it up til the part about the firemen. I had broke that alarm at one point and nothing happened so I am going to try that again and go from there. If I can get that to happen I'll keep going until I get stuck again before I finish reading what you wrote for me.

I will update you.

Thanks!

Re: harvester - 06/07/14 01:22 AM

Sounds good; I'm glad you ignored the part that you didn't want to see. smile Good luck with your progress.

Re: harvester - 06/07/14 03:11 AM

Unfortunately, I didn't get very far. When I broke the alarm still nothing happened but I went to the firehouse and the truck was gone. I then proceeded to get myself mauled to death. When I went back in and broke the alarm again, this time I got the truck and sirens and I managed to stay alive but I'm not seeing anything in that sarcophagus so I'm right back at square one.

Too tired to play anymore now since I'm not getting anywhere so I hope tomorrow I'll be able to move forward.

The fact that I haven't just gone straight for the answers means it's a good game (to me) but I am getting tired of just wandering now. I showed my brother some of the game but not the meat house. He'd probably make me feel guilty for playing. We are both huge cat lovers.

Re: harvester - 06/08/14 05:05 AM

Well Marian, I did have to look a little bit more at your spoiler but not quite at all of it. I just keep missing some hot spots. Anyway, I have now completed the part through the fires and am waiting for something from the Order.

I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.

Thanks.

Re: harvester - 06/09/14 12:31 AM

Hi,

I think I'm stuck again. In the lodge there's a room with 3 doors leading to a room with a fireplace and bear rug, the wardrobe guy, and a room with 2 corpses. The 2 corpse room leads to the kitchen on one side and the bar on the other. The bar leads to a fountain and a head chomping plant.

I've gotten into the cash register and had my clothes cleaned. I have the following items in inventory: Harvest blade, sandwich, glass, 2 chunks of meat, bar key, and $200. Can't seem to do anything with the plant or wardrobe guy with this stuff. Probably missing a hot spot again, I don't know.

As usual, as little answer as you can give would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: harvester - 06/09/14 12:46 AM

If you have been back to the cloak room and given the attendant his money for cleaning your clothing and have also talked to the chef (again, it sounds like you did because you have the water glass, sandwich, and two pieces of meat), then after that I would suggest that you go back to the cloak room, arm your blade if you haven't already, save your game, and enter the left door.

If this isn't exactly where you are in the game in terms of progress, please let me know.

Re: harvester - 06/09/14 02:09 AM

This is where I am Marian. I will try the cloak room guy again. He's already shot me once for touching stuff too many times. I'll try to figure out what I'm missing there. Thank you for the direction to concentrate on!

Re: harvester - 06/09/14 03:40 AM

Not liking this second half of the game very much. I don't care for the type of gameplay where you are constantly fighting and/or getting killed.

I now have a rifle, ammo, bat, pool stick, hatchet, and scythe. Don't know what to do next though. Thought the scythe might work on the plant but it does not. Nothing works on the bubble things. Nowhere else to go.

Re: harvester - 06/09/14 03:46 AM

Do you still have the meat in your inventory? I hope so. sherlock

Re: harvester - 06/09/14 03:56 AM

Ah, I do, and reading that just made me think that bubble thing might enjoy it. The plant doesn't.

I think I'm off to bed for now though.

Thank you so very much!

Re: harvester - 06/10/14 03:48 AM

Hi Marian,

Dumb question maybe. Do they say how many bullets you need to kill Mr Cain for his book? I killed him with 10 bullets but I needed the gun to kill the janitor so I replayed and used 2 on the janitor and cannot kill Mr Cain with the 8 remaining bullets. Is it just a "skill" thing or does it take a certain quantity? I tried using other weapons but they didn't work.

I am getting fed up with the second half of this game. It is no longer fun to me. I think they ruined it with all of this combat stuff!

And then I had the chess guy's key but the librarian would not recognize it, maybe because I got it before I knew I needed it which stinks because that will require a replay also then.

There are 25 save slots. I am on about 45 already, afraid not to save after every step. I have to watch I don't box myself into a save that I can't proceed from.

Need to leave it be now. Hopefully tomorrow I can try again from a fresher (not so aggravated) state of mind.

Thanks Marian.

Re: harvester - 06/10/14 04:07 AM

It doesn't say how many bullets you need to get rid of Mr. Cain. After you get rid of him, though, the walkthrough says that you can operate the ashtrays for some shotgun shells.

Yes, the latter part of this game looks like a real pain - you have to make saves everywhere, and there is too much combat. I think you have a lot of fortitude for getting as far as you have.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: harvester - 06/10/14 04:28 AM

Thank you for the tip about the ashtrays. Maybe I can work on it some more tomorrow.

I very much want to know how the game ends if I can ever get there.

Re: harvester - 06/11/14 04:15 AM

Marian - I was able to move forward with the help of the additional ammo. I am in the cave room now where the ceiling keeps crushing me. Just tell me this - is there some way out of this room or did I dead end myself and have to go back to an earlier save? I am now resaving over saves for the 3rd time.
Posted By: Marian

Re: harvester - 06/11/14 02:25 PM

There is something you can do in the cave room to stop the ceiling from crushing you.

Re: harvester - 06/12/14 02:53 AM

Got out of that room right away. I had tried the flags last night but must have done it too late or something because it didn't work but I tried them first again today and it worked.

I'm in with Mr Pottsdam now but this is too draining and I need to quit for the night.

Am I close to the end of the game now?
Posted By: Marian

Re: harvester - 06/12/14 03:48 AM

You're getting there. The walkthrough I am looking at shows seven more sequences to get through (which all look relatively short, nothing too prolonged).
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: harvester - 06/12/14 08:16 PM

Unfortunately, "nothing too prolonged" probably means having to act faster than I like so I can kill somebody or something to save my own b..t!

I'll work on Pottsdam some more when I get home tonight.

Re: harvester - 06/13/14 03:40 AM

I did it Marian! Finally finished. I didn't appreciate either ending at first after all that action stuff but after replaying both endings a second time, I guess I kind of liked it, but the first and second halves really were like night and day.

Anyway, thank you so much for all the help and encouragement and listening to my griping!
