The Raven - 07/20/14 01:19 AM

hi, can anyone tell me how many save slots are available please. robert.
Posted By: Marian

Re: The Raven - 07/20/14 03:19 AM

I read that the game frequently automatically saves. You can make your own saves too, but I don't know exactly how many. Hopefully another player will be able to tell you.

Re: The Raven - 07/20/14 03:56 AM

I'm sorry. Was trying to check for the saves 2 hours ago.
I can't now - lost my external hard drive that has all my saves.
I have been trying to see if I can resurrect it but so far I can't.

-------------
Checked my steam user data - there are 50 saves in there. I think that is all that is allowed.

hi MaG, Dining area - how do i get close enough to take a toothpick across from Lady Westmacott? robert.

Re: The Raven - 07/26/14 11:54 PM

In the dining area, there is a glass of toothpicks on a table to the right. See if you can't just take a toothpick from there.

Robert

I have a total of 59 saves after playing the game, Gog version. My guess is they are unlimited

hi Marian, that IS my question. how do i take a toothpick when i cannot even get close enough to the glass of toothpicks take one? robert.

Re: The Raven - 07/27/14 02:37 AM

Try this and see if it will work for you:
- Open the window across the violinist. Then see if you can get the toothpick on the table across Lady Westmacott.

hi MaG, how do i talk to Dr. Gebhardt about his gloves? robert.
Posted By: MaG

Re: The Raven - 08/05/14 02:19 AM

When you check the prints on the window of Prof. Lucien's compartment, you should have a conclusion that there are 2 prints that might have been made by a gloved hand.
Then ask the doctor about his gloves.

Re: The Raven - 08/08/14 02:08 AM

hi MaG, this may sound like a petty question but it's important. when i'm asking questions in this game, should i ask them in top-to-bottom order only? robert.
Posted By: MaG

Re: The Raven - 08/08/14 03:11 AM

Top to bottom? You mean from start of the The Raven game to where you are?
You can ask any question - be sure to explain where you are though. That way we can find out if you have done what is necessary to that point.
Posted By: robert gray

Re: The Raven - 08/08/14 03:28 PM

hi MaG, i attempted to put my question as easy to understand as possible but i guess not. what i mean is, not my progress to date in the game but my questions to a character starting at the first question going IN SEQUENCE down until the last question is asked. i hope that's easier for you to comprehend. robert.
Posted By: Rushes

Re: The Raven - 08/08/14 03:39 PM

MaG is away for a while today, robert, so I'll attempt to answer your Q. If MaG's walkthrough doesn't specify a particular question that should be asked, or to warn against a question that you should not, then it's entirely up to you. If you feel more comfortable asking questions top to bottom, then do that. smile At least that way you won't miss anything.

MaG, what and where is the 'secret' portion of the notebook? robert.

hi MaG, i can't find anywhere in the notebook that states that James has a lame arm nor can i find the coal car door. do these really matter? robert.

Re: The Raven - 08/13/14 08:27 PM

I don't think it is necessary in progressing in the game. It is part of the storyline. You can continue on. Have fun.

Re: The Raven - 08/14/14 11:45 PM

hello Mag, i play ALL my games with the aid of a walkthrough, yours if available. my last save was when someone broke the antenna from the radio. now, the game has had its lights put out then bombed. i can't even read your W/T to find out what to do next. have you any advice please? robert.
Posted By: Marian

Re: The Raven - 08/15/14 01:13 AM

Hi robert, I believe this is approximately where you are in the game, starting with someone having broken the antenna to the radio. Read this over and see if you can figure out how to proceed:

Quote:
Check the radio and see that someone broke the antenna.

Trapped in Stones

The trap (triggered by opening the professor's compartment):

Go to the freight car. Talk to Legrand about the purse and then the professor.

The lights go out. An envelope is on top of the safe. It has a black feather in it and a letter addressed to Nico. Legrand opens the safe and then the box. It's a bomb!

Zellner quickly throws the bomb to the back of the train and pulls the 2 men out. He closes the door. The bomb goes off.

Uncouple the freight car:

Legrand issues orders. Oliver is to go to the engineer; Legrand will take care of the passengers while Zellner uncouples the freight car. (Achievement Survivor obtained).

Read the notebook for updates.

Check damage: Go outside. Examine the damage on side of freight car.

Have you now read your notebook for updates? Have you gone outside and examined the damage on the side of the freight car?
Posted By: robert gray

Re: The Raven - 08/15/14 02:32 AM

hi Marian, how do i get light to uncouple the train car? robert.
Posted By: MaG

Re: The Raven - 08/15/14 02:45 AM

Robert,

Let's check the sequence that should happen inside that freight car.
- You talk to Legrand.
- Light goes out.
- See a cutscene of the envelope on top of the safe and Legrand reading it and opening the safe. Zellner throws the bomb and it explodes.
- The cutscene continues and Legrand issues the orders.
- After that you are back in control and you should go outside the car and check the danmage. You should be between the 2 cars now.

It looks like you have not seen the cutscene yet and still in the dark.

--------
If you have done the above - to uncouple the train - you have to collect items first.
Continue with the walkthrough to see which items and how to get them. luck

hi MaG, i am having trouble breaking a leg off the chair with the extinguisher. i saved, took a break then got back into the game again now i cannot find the extinguisher again. it is too dark to see! any tips please? robert.
Posted By: Marian

Re: The Raven - 08/18/14 09:24 PM

I can't be of much help here, I'm afraid. According to the walkthrough:

Quote:
Take the curtain from right side window.

Look at the overturned chair of the last left table. See that there is a fire extinguisher on the floor here also.

Can you see the right side window, the left last table, or the overturned chair? That might help you get oriented as to where you are.
Posted By: MaG

Re: The Raven - 08/18/14 10:20 PM

Be sure that you are in the correct car. This is the dining area car.
Also move around and see if the positioning helps in locating the extinguisher.
Posted By: robert gray

Re: The Raven - 08/18/14 11:19 PM

hi Marian, does it matter if i don't exactly follow the strict order of the W/T? for instance, what if looking for the extinguisher i go to the next car? will it disturb things? robert.
Posted By: Marian

Re: The Raven - 08/19/14 12:14 AM

I don't think it will disturb anything if you are just looking for the extinguisher. The game looks pretty linear to me, so that should be okay.

Re: The Raven - 08/20/14 08:17 PM

hi Marian, at Stop the train - i cannot pull the emergency brake as i don't see any pull-cord nor pick up Zellner's book as i don't see any pick up icon. do these really matter to the game? robert.
Posted By: Marian

Re: The Raven - 08/20/14 08:29 PM

Looking at the walkthrough, it doesn't seem to me that you are able to do anything with the emergency brake at this point other than look at it, so you should be okay there. You are, however, supposed to be able to pick up the book, so perhaps there is something that you haven't done at this point to trigger being able to pick up the book; I am not sure whether picking up the book is important to the game or not. Have you gotten the axe? Do you have a wet towel?
Posted By: robert gray

Re: The Raven - 08/20/14 11:09 PM

hi Marian, a very strange thing happens i cannot explain why. on one screen i have the axe. the next, as called for in the W/T, it's gone. when i use the wet towel on the hot door, there's no axe! hopefully you can explain. robert.
Posted By: Marian

Re: The Raven - 08/20/14 11:18 PM

I am not sure why that is happening to you, but let's go over the steps of the walkthrough one by one:

Quote:
Stop the train:

Go to next car. Try to enter the Baroness' compartment.

Archeologist compartment: Enter the next compartment. Check the gin bottle on shelf.

Explore the corner compartment. Look at the mirror. Examine and take the towel.

Turn on the tap. Use the towel on running water of the tap to get wet towel.

Sitting area car: Go to next car. Check the emergency brake on the wall middle of the open doorway.

See an axe just behind the glass doors of the sitting room car and left of the emergency brake. Take the axe.

Pick up Zellner's book from the floor beside the chair at right.

Coal tender door: Go to the end of the car.

Since the emergency brakes are now known not to work, open the door. Ouch!

Use the wet towel on the door. It is locked.

Take the axe Zellner laid down on floor and then use it on the door.

Open the door and Zellner crawls to escape the smoke above him.

Uncouple the cars: Examine the coupling. Turn the lever. It's not working.

Use the axe beside Zellner. Release the lever with the help of the axe.

If you have a saved game before "stop the train," maybe you could reload that save and play through this part again. Otherwise, maybe MaG can give you some additional advice. Wish I could be of more help.

hi Marian, Suspicious trunk. after checking the red car, i have nowhere to go. the game will not let me go to the back of thee room. can you please advise? robert.
Posted By: Marian

Re: The Raven - 08/24/14 09:12 PM

Hi robert, let's look over the walkthrough together:

Quote:

Cargo Hold: It is dark here. Look around. There's a cylindrical object at left. Take the flashlight. Use the flashlight with the room. Check the red convertible.

Chest: Go to the back of the room and see the chest.

Examine the suspicious chest at left foreground. Open the chest. It is empty.

Go back to bottom right of the screen to the car and stairs.

Shards: Examine the shards by the foot of the stairs. Hear another sound. Zellner is hit on the head.

There is a video here - go to around 22:45 minutes; it shows what happens after you get the flashlight - maybe this will help.
Posted By: robert gray

Re: The Raven - 08/25/14 03:42 PM

hi Marian, i have opened the suspicious trunk but i think it's important that Zellner says 'it's empty'. he doesn't. how do i get him to say it? robert.

Posted By: Marian

Re: The Raven - 08/26/14 05:01 PM

Hi robert, according to the walkthrough:

Quote:
Search the cargo hold: Go to the back room. Examine the white bulkhead door. Try to open the bulkhead door at left.

Go back to the front area by car. Examine the cell under the stairs, chairs and lockers.

Examine the crate at right and see it has a bullet hole. Examine the bullet hole. It needs to be examined later.

Examine the pipe by the car and shards. Take the bloody pipe.

Go upstairs and try to open the door. Open the door with the pipe. Leave the cargo hold.

Have you done everything above prior to trying to take the pipe?

Re: The Raven - 09/01/14 11:51 PM

Robert,

When you are first inside the ship, you will have stairs on your right, entryway to the bar in front of you and exit to outside on your left.
If you press the space bar, it should also show you exits; aside from hotspots. luck

Re: The Raven - 09/02/14 02:55 PM

hi MaG, 'when you are first inside the ship'. do you mean going back in the game? i don't understand. how else do i get to the glass roof? robert.
Posted By: MaG

Re: The Raven - 09/02/14 03:29 PM

If I remember correctly - the glass roof is inside the saloon-bar area. It is just an active item.
You don't go there.
The "Go outside-upstairs" is by the exit I mentioned above to the outside. There are steps going up to the closed door to the bridge and ventilation shaft.
Posted By: robert gray

Re: The Raven - 09/02/14 03:57 PM

hi MaG, could you please refresh my memory about the exit to the outside. do i have to go back in the game? robert.
Posted By: MaG

Re: The Raven - 09/02/14 04:22 PM

No - you don't have to go back to a saved game.
If you're in the bar-saloon with the bar on your right - turn around and exit.
Your view should be then facing the cabin-room door (with stairs going down on your left). The exit to outside is on your right.
Once you exit outside, your view should be facing the door to the inside of the ship.
Go right and see steps going up to the bridge and ventilation shaft.

Re: The Raven - 09/28/14 01:43 AM

Have you done this part? The safe should have arrived by this time.
Safe: Go left to treasure chamber and follow the safe.
Legrand opens the safe with his, the director and Lucien's keys.
The safe is empty. Lucien shows that he kept the jewel when the other was stolen in London. Lucien places the green eye that he kept on the display case.

Has Legrand left already and told you to examine the security of the museum?
If you have done all of the above - you should be by the treasure chamber with the director.

Re: The Raven - 10/13/14 05:28 PM

Have you followed these steps exactly?

Quote:
Look around. Look at the blanket on the cell floor. Examine the bars.

Examine the hinge of the cell door twice. Adil can't pull or push the bolt of the hinge out.

Examine the board right of the red hose wheel. The board has a nail.

Use the blanket with the board with a nail. Automatically, Adil removes the nail from the board.

Re: The Raven - 10/13/14 07:03 PM

The nail should be in inventory if you examined the bars, HINGE twice and the board with the nail.
The active spot of the hinge might be the problem - be sure that you click on the correct spot.

The museum director talked to you at the start of the museum chapter. He is out there looking for Grace.
Later - I believe, you find out that Grace is a dog (or it is the other way around: find out she's a dog and later learn her name is Grace). lol

Try pressing your space bar to reveal all active hotspots onscreen -- that should show the skylight if you're having difficulty spotting it.

Re: The Raven - 10/19/14 04:36 PM

hi Rushes, i pressed the space bar but i got rope, bag, secret door, tarp, but no skylight. robert.
Posted By: Marian

Re: The Raven - 10/19/14 04:55 PM

If there is no skylight for you to observe, I'm wondering if you missed checking the skylight earlier in the game.

Here is the relevant section from the walkthrough, a portion which you would have done previously - the skylight is mentioned in the last sentence:

Quote:
Open door to basement:

Get to roof: Exit the museum. Go to side street.

Examine the fire ladder on the wall twice.

Enter the van and release the handbrake. Exit.

Push the van backwards. Climb the ladder.

Roof-skylight: Look around. Check the skylight that looks down to the treasure chamber.

Re: The Raven - 10/20/14 08:17 PM

hi Marian. you were absolutely correct about the skylight and i had to go back. well, i finished the game and thoroughly enjoyed it. thanks to you, MaG and Rushes for all your help. robert.

Re: The Raven - 03/18/15 10:12 PM

In the Raven, I am in Patricia's room and I can't exit. the bathroom is on the right and that is the only hotspot that lights up. I had this the first time I went into the room and I couldn't get out, so, I went to a saved game and didn't go in there until now again. I went to youtube and found this gameplay and at about 3150 they show how she gets out but, maybe I am missing something, but, I can't leave. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fHtBqBfr4A

edit: I found out on GOG that others had this problem and switched their settings to 1280 x 768 or something and when I did that, the hotspot to exit the room came up. so, it is solved! Thanks.

Posted By: Marian

Re: The Raven - 05/27/15 12:59 AM

I don't think there's any way of speeding that up, Robert. If the inventory is taking longer to show than it was the last time that you played the game, then that does sound a bit strange, and I'm not sure what the problem could be.

after Zellner meets James the butler AKA Clive Alfred Inch, where do i find the coal car door to check? robert.
Posted By: Marian

Re: The Raven - 05/28/15 01:35 AM

If there is only one coal car door in the game, you visited this door previously in this part of the game:

Quote:
Coal tender car: Go to the rear of the car. Study the map on the wall twice. It shows the Orient Express route. Check the door to the coal tender car. Go back to Lady Westmacott.

If this doesn't help, please let us know.
Posted By: robert gray

Re: The Raven - 05/28/15 05:00 PM

thanks for the reply Marian but i don't see any point in checking the door AGAIN after already visiting/coming through it. robert.
Posted By: Marian

Re: The Raven - 05/28/15 05:11 PM

Right, I only commented upon that because where you are now, the walkthrough says:

Quote:
Follow the butler and talk to him completely. His real name is Clive Alfred Inch. The notebook states that James has a lame arm received during the war. Check the coal car door.

I don't know anything about the game apart from what the walkthrough says, so maybe someone else will be able to clarify this step.

Posted By: Marian

Re: The Raven - 06/15/15 04:20 PM

In order to talk to Dr. Gebhardt about the gloves, you need to:

Quote:
Check the prints on the window of Prof. Lucien's compartment - you should have a conclusion that there are 2 prints that might have been made by a gloved hand. Then ask the doctor about his gloves.

See if you are able to do this now.

The quote that I gave you above is actually a quote from MaG - it was advice that she gave you here on the forum about what you need to do in order to have a conversation with Dr. Gebhardt about the gloves. smile Not having played the game, I am not sure if you *have* to converse with Dr. Gebhardt at this time, or if you can wait until a little later.

Other than looking over the walkthrough from the precise point where you feel like you went astray, checking to make sure that there aren't any other steps that you might have missed, I can't really be any more specific than that.

You could try watching the video walkthroughs again on YouTube, although you will neeed to search around a bit to find the point at which you want to begin watching:

Re: The Raven - 07/18/15 05:13 PM

According to MaG's walkthrough:

Quote:
Notebook has content, notes and secrets that are accumulated during gameplay. There's the table of Contents. Notes have observations. Secrets have tasks that needs to be done in the game and hidden hints that can be bought with adventure points.

It sounds like both the Notes and the Secrets tab would be helpful in this regard.

- Click on a title (content) and it will automatically go to the title that are in the notes part.
The tab on the right is the notes.
- Here are the entries that are in the table of content.
- It has all the thoughts of Zellner about the different characters and clues.
- It can be accessed by clicking on the table of contents.
The tab at bottom shows the secrets.
- This is to access the hints.
- If you use hints; points will be deducted.

So from the foyer - go to bottom screen.
Now you will be at the main hall.
You can now check all the active display cases. luck

hi MaG, Mechanism. How do you differentiate the heads on the discs? robert.
Posted By: MaG

Re: The Raven - 08/29/15 09:37 PM

AS stated in the walkthrough - Zellner writes the words down.
Exit the basement and go to the main hall and go to the entrance.
Zellner automatically goes to the director. Talk to Director Mokhtar.
He will give you the meaning and other info.

Once you have done this; go back to the jars and examine the board right of the jars. Now you can identify the heads.
As for which position - Go to the stone sarcophagus at right by the stairs. It will tell you the cardinal directions associated with those heads. luck

Then move to the left while on the roof of the cab.

You used the wrench earlier when you opened the ventilation shaft. The video might have started earlier or he did the shaft later than I did.
The ball of wool is the one you used with the magnet and then used on the shaft.

Watch the video until he used them both.

Posted By: MaG

Re: The Raven - 10/09/15 07:57 PM

You have to decode the heads and the writing on the closed door.
- Talk to the director to know about the heads.
- Study the canopic jars to learn the conncetion to organs and Cardinal points (north, east, south west).

Then you can do the heads puzzle.
If you do it right - the door will open.
Posted By: robert gray

Re: The Raven - 10/09/15 09:37 PM

Hi Mag, I am still struggling with the heads. Do i hear a noise or whatever when i have entered the correct code or does the door upstairs open automatically and click on the code itself to open the door? Robert.
Posted By: MaG

Re: The Raven - 10/10/15 01:57 AM

If you enter the code correctly, the door will automatically open. Then you go upstairs.

You should have done the canopic jars and know the cardinal directions for it to work.

Arrange the heads to be inside of the discs.
Top disc should have baboon head at bottom of circle.
Right disc should have jackal head at left side of circle.
Left disc should have the falcon head at right side of circle.
Bottom disc should have the human head on top of circle.
