Kings Quest Chapter 3

Is there a way to pass climbing the freezing tower? Over the last couple days I've tried and died countless times, and even have tried Sierra's turbo (though it doesn't seam to be having any effect)

This was a very unnecessary action segment, and I was quite upset when I encountered it, as they said they were going to do away with these segments. Though I wasn't a fan of them, I found the action segments in episode 1 perfectly manageable, but this one was nearly impossible.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but the way I eventually got through was to just keep pushing the movement keys, even when Gwendolyn was speaking or Graham seemed to be moving on his own. That way, I stayed ahead of the ice that up until then, always got me in the third section toward the end. Also, just climb as quickly as possible, even if the action prompts aren't showing up. Sometimes, you will have to press 2 arrow keys at once, like the up key and the left arrow key if the rock you are trying to reach is to the northwest, for example. Also, try to always reach for the furthest rock away that Graham can jump to, to minimize the number of jumps you will have to make.

, and I hope you are able to make it though. In spite of this completely unnecessary segment, I thought this was the best episode yet. Which princess did you pick for Graham? Vee or Neese? I picked Neese, as Valanice had red hair like her in the original games, plus she's musical like all the Daventry family members from the original games.

I think part of my problem with the ending of this chapter is when Graham and Hagatha are outside, the video is kinda buggy (shaky)


Although, I noticed technically EITHER princess could be Valanice in retrospect. I noticed Vee is more like Alexander (darker hair, serious, reserved) and Neese is more like Rosella (lighter hair, impetuous, fun loving and loving adventure)

Did you manage to make it past, or are you still having trouble? Sorry the video is buggy for you. The sequence starts after that scene, though. Does the shakiness continue after that? Or does the video result in a lag that slows you down when the sequence starts?

Vee is more like Valanice in personality, based on her appearance in King's Quest VII, although she never struck me as competitive. She was definitely more serious and reserved, though, more like Alexander. However, in the games, Valanice has always had red (or "auburn") hair, so Neese looks more like her, plus she has the musical ability that all of the Daventry family members possess. You're right, Neese is a lot like Rosella in personality, and Rosella is my favorite character, so this may have swayed me as well. Really, it's almost like they split Valanice in two and made us decide with aspects of her we liked more.

No, everytime I play, it gets laggy/freezy when Graham is outside with Hagatha, and stays laggy, which I think is what keeps me from successfully climbing the tower.

That's too bad. I'd offer to send you a saved game, but it looks as though there's only one in my directory, and it's probably the auto save where I completed chapter 3. (This is odd because there should be an incomplete second playthrough with different choices, but I only see one in the folder. Hopefully, the one showing is the correct save.) Also, I'm not sure what choices you made, so they may or may not match. Did you choose Vee or Neese as your princess? Also, is Graham following compassion, wisdom or bravery in your playthrough? My Graham so far has chosen the compassion route (I also managed to save all townspeople in chapter 2), and Neese became Valanice in my story.

If you want, I can send you the save and link you to a YouTube video so you can at least see the ending? Or if you chose Vee and/or a different Graham path, I could at least send you a YouTube video where Vee was chosen, but my save wouldn't do you much good in that case.

Also, I know this is probably an obvious question, but have you tried turning down your settings just for that section? That might help if nothing else.

I found two different paths on youtube for the endings (one as Neese and one as Vee) so I have seen them, just not played them.

I chose Neese and compassion.

I have tried turning off Aero (my computer is windows 7, and I changed the theme from the aero to windows classic, with no help, and even closed all processes but the game, also with no success)

also, I recently had to reinstall windows, and when I installed the game I played through chapter 3 but even with a fresh install of windows, I still get the freezy stuff I mentioned above

I thought you would have tried several things already, so I knew it was a long shot. Glad to know you've seen the endings anyway. It sounds as though our choices are the same, so do you want me to send you my saved game? You'd probably want to back yours up in another location just to be on the safe side. If it's set up the way I think it is, my saved game should be at the end of chapter 3, so that way you could begin chapter 4 when it comes out with the choices (essentially) as you had them. If you're interested, let me know. I could also let you know where the saved games are stored in case you're unsure, as it took quite a bit of searching for me to find them.

Sorry to jump in on this thread, but how do I load a saved game, I have just started the game and it has auto saved, I want to go back to that point and change my decision about the dragon.

I just wanted to insert, last week I got the new computer I was saving up for (which has windows 10, my old one had W7) and that shakiness I initially mentioned no longer is there, which tells me it was that computer.

I have gotten a deal farther up the tower, but still, it seams almost impossible.

I made a screencap and circled in red the part that halts me, causing Graham to freeze out.
