The Abbey - 05/11/16 12:29 AM
I'm playing the Steam version but have the disc game also and the booklet says to press M for a map but that doesn't seem to work in the Steam version. Anybody know how to get the map?
More importantly though, I'm trying to open a container of Bitterwort seeds. I haven't yet got the mechanics of gameplay down yet. Any hints?
Thanks.

You have to be outside a building before you can use the M key for the map. It doesn't work inside.
The bitterwort crock pot is sealed with wax. You have to melt the wax.

Thanks MaG. I know you have to be outside for the M to bring up the map. It doesn't seem to work in the Steam version though.
OK. I thought I might have to melt that wax so I am on the right track. Now to find out how/where. I tried the kitchen fire but that didn't work.
Thank you and stay tuned. I'll probably be back.
OK, don't know what I was doing wrong before but now I got the map. As soon as you write something...

Glad you can get the map now.

Yeah but can't get anywhere else. I've been over everything numerous times and I'm not finding anything else or having new conversations.

You will need something to use on stove in the kitchen that you can use to melt the wax.
This is one of those puzzle that is convoluted.

Thanks for the additional hint MaG. I will check it out again.
Finally, got that part. Couldn't get any farther tonight though. I can see this is going to be a long game for me. This type of puzzling always gives me trouble.
Figured out why the map wasn't working at first. I had my caps lock on before I posted but not after I posted. I tested it out and that was the problem. The caps.

Nice to know about the caps. Have fun when you play.

After one hour and 20 minutes all I've discovered is that Martin won't let me fill my crock with soup to give to Umberto.
I guess I need some help.

Eladio will tell you something that will get you in Martin's good graces.

If you mean about the spices in the soup, he told me that earlier for some other reason (so long ago now that I can't remember how it helped)but now he is not telling me anything new or helpful.

Now impress Martin with your knowledge of herbs.

Re: The Abbey - 05/11/16 10:34 PM
MaG - I had that conversation earlier with Martin. He won't have it again.
I took a peek at the w/t so I could get moving. I overlooked talking to Bruno since he usually doesn't do much. That'll teach me! I hope.

Glad you got the solution. Enjoy.

Unfortunately, when I got to Part 2, my screen went dark and I had to use task manager to get out of the game. A friend just called me and I am typing this with one hand. I hope when I go back in the game and replay the section, that Part 2 will come up for me to continue.

Re: The Abbey - 05/12/16 02:51 AM
Maybe a reboot of the game will bring it back.

Re: The Abbey - 05/12/16 05:23 AM
Yes, I gave it a rest for a while and then was able to continue. Was hoping to get through Part 2 but no luck with that yet. I'll let you know tomorrow if I need some more help.
Thank you MaG!

Re: The Abbey - 05/12/16 08:04 PM
MaG - I guess I need another hint. It is dusk. I have the parchment that I found after drugging Umberto. It says there is a drawing similar to the bas relief in the crypt so we headed there. I've actually just spent 1-1/2 hours checking everything again. Nothing! I'm thinking it is supposed to be vespers soon?

Re: The Abbey - 05/12/16 08:17 PM
Did the abbot open the crypt for you?
You should have seen the bas relief then - it is on the left wall.
Do you have a copy of the crypt key already?

Re: The Abbey - 05/12/16 08:30 PM
Yes, I've been in the crypt and seen the bas relief. I gave the candle with the key impression to Nicholas but he said I can't get the key until tomorrow. He won't talk to me anymore about it. So, no, I don't have the copy of the crypt key yet.
Ah Ha! I figured it out!

Sorry.
I thought I answered you already. I did it in my mind.
Glad you got through.

Don't feel badly, MaG - I've been following this thread, but I wasn't going to jump in until oldbroad was so desperate as to want any old advice, even if it was substandard, as it almost assuredly would have been if I had offered it.
Good for you for figuring it out, oldbroad.

Re: The Abbey - 05/13/16 03:21 AM
No problem MaG. I took a break from it and tried again. Maybe I am starting to get the "mechanics" of the game play.
Marian - why do you say that? I always appreciate your help! Actually, I was starting to think I did/said something wrong that you stopped helping me.

Marian,
You help everyone on each and all posts you make. Hugs.

You said nothing wrong at all, oldbroad - I am just woefully unfamiliar with this particular game.
Thanks, MaG.

Do I need to know something about religion to get out of the crypt? I am stuck there at the moment but will give it a try tomorrow when my mind is more fresh.

Looking at the walkthrough, I would say no, it's not necessary.

Thanks Marian. I was able to get out of there and am into Part 4 now. Taking a rest.

Good for you. I continue to be impressed by your determination to try to figure out stuff on your own.

Re: The Abbey - 05/14/16 12:29 AM
Marian - sometimes it just depends on the game, but mostly on how I'm feeling at the time. You see above that I did take a peek at the w/t the other day.
I just finished replaying Keepsake last week. There was one puzzle in the observatory that I spent hours and hours on and partially solved the puzzle but in the end I just got tired of it and looked at the w/t. Guess what. I spent all that time for NO reason. I was putting numbers in exact order in the puzzle but they only needed to be grouped, not exact. ARGH!!! Moral of the story: sometimes determination is over rated!

The "moral of the story" definitely makes me feel better.

Re: The Abbey - 05/14/16 04:40 AM
MaG and Marian,
Thank you very much for your help with this game. I have now finished it. I often replay the endings but there is about 1 hour of conversation at the end since my last save so, not sure, but at least not tonight.

I did enjoy the game actually.
