Hi Marian and MaG.

If this game is too hard for hint giving, let me know and I'll look at the w/t. The game crashes to my desktop every hour or so making it hard when I am stuck (too much wandering and clicking seem to make it crash quicker).

Anyway, since I'm not sure how to say what I've done I'll start with what's in my inventory:

Shell game, branch, scissors, document, book of magic creatures, candy, rejuvenation flyer, fishing rod, brooch, sneezing powder, matches, magnet, pins, and potency formula.

I have no money or gold coins to gamble with or buy anything with. I've used magic ink powder on playing cards of hermit but don't have the other powder I need to put on them so somebody's fingers will turn blue. I can't take cellar key to town hall, I can't take scented candles from Daphne. I've exhausted all conversations at the moment, both in day and night modes.

Not sure how to proceed.

Not abridged.

Think about whether there are a couple of things in your inventory that can be combined.

OK, thank you. I'll go check it out. I know there was something said about cutting something from the document but I wasn't able to do that. I'll try more stuff and let you know.

Well, if nothing works, please let us know. It seems like it can be a bit of a convoluted game and perhaps it's not the right time for you to try to do this.

The only thing I was able to combine was the fishing rod with the magnet but I can't find anything magnetic to fish for.

After getting the potency formula and the pins, are you able to walk into the Town Hall and talk to Valerius about Laura?

I don't believe I ran across a Laura in the game and don't recall the potency formula and pins generating any new conversation with anybody, which I did think was odd. Should I go back and see if I missed something at Daphne's?

You could try that. What I did was look at the next set of actions performed after getting the potency potion and the pins. It makes it more difficult, though, when a game is nonlinear (which this one looks to be).

In the walkthrough I am looking at, you meet Laura upon an exit from the Town Hall.

If you right-click on any document(s) in your inventory, does it refer to Anubis?

Yes.

The walkthrough is telling me that you can click on the document and combine it with the craft scissors (the craft scissor’s original location: the library, near the desk, daytime) to get an abridged document, providing that the document talks about Anubis. That's why I asked you that document question earlier in this thread and talked about possibly combining objects in inventory. Hopefully you will be able to do this at this point in the game.

If not, we will go back to the drawing board.

Using the scissors on the document just states that he doesn't know why he should cut it even though in the town hall if I try to place it on the pile of other documents Fiona will say something about cutting it. Maybe this will work soon. Probably need to trigger something else first.

Anyway, I have been trying every item on every person (something I was reluctant to do because the game makes my computer run hot and then it crashes to the desktop) and finally found the right person for the sneezing powder so I am moving on (for the moment anyway).

I'll probably be back before this night is over.

That's weird about the game playing havoc with your computer.

Document is now abridged and I'm trying to use it with Farida. Game crashed again so I guess I'll pick it up tomorrow.

Okay, at least you have made a bit of progress.

Argh. I have not been able to get back to the game until now. 20 minutes and it crashed already. I hope I can figure out this puzzle soon and move on. It is a conversation puzzle. I don't care much for them because I don't care to listen to the same conversation over and over until I finally strike upon the right one.

Oh well, back to the game. Just trying to kill a few minutes. Don't like to go straight back in after it crashes.

I wish there was a way to stop the crashing. I never got any further than installing this game years ago, and had to switch the antivirus program I was using in order to get it to run - that's all I know of it.

Thanks Marian. In crash mode again. I often have this problem with older games, even from GOG, but this game is really bad. It may be my computer needing to be cleaned I guess. I don't know.

I finally got past that puzzle and into Chapter 2 and have met Laura.
