Black Mirror 1 - 02/03/18 09:06 PM

Hi Marian,

I'm in Wales. It is night time. I'm trying to open the jewel case. I do not understand the clue one bit. I've moved the 4 pieces around until I'm blue in the face and sick of the puzzle!

Any hint or suggestion that is not the solution?

Thanks.

I am having a hard time finding this puzzle in the walkthrough. What chapter are you in, and where are you in Wales?

Good thing I saved. Just had my head lopped off!

In case I wasn't clear. The jewel box is Eleanor's and it is in the parlour (?) next to her piano.

The gate that I opened with the key from the box let to Dergham's (is that the right name?) tomb.

And I had understood the clue, just had trouble getting it right though.

Thanks for the info - I remember that part somewhat now, although I don't remember the puzzle specifically.

Re: Black Mirror 1 - 02/04/18 08:05 AM

I'm playing Black Mirror 1 also. I'm trying to take the attic key from the wall next to the cellar door. Each time I click on the panel with keys, Samuel says: "this must be the cellar door key. I had better leave it here." I see TWO keys on the key panel, but I can't take the attic key. The attic is still locked so I'm stuck at this point. Any help would be appreciated.
Sandy

NOTE: This comes after I had used the savegame for the "Torn Photo" puzzle

Never mind problem solved. I had to run around looking for Bates (the butler). Finally found him in the kitchen, and then I asked him about the attic key, telling me (Samuel) that the key was next to the cellar door. I now was able to take the attic key. Now I am finally in the attic. YAY!
All this because I had used that savegame, but now I'm thankful that I did, so I'm finally moving forward. WHEW!

Yes, non-linear games are good unless you need to use a save from somebody else. I couldn't get the key right away either. Had to wait for the prompt. Just like with some of the inventory items. You cannot pick them up when you first see them. You have to wait until the time comes that you actually need them.

Marian and Mad - since you are both always praising me for being persistent, I have to let you know that my head is hanging in shame right now due to impatience.

I could no longer take being killed at the lighthouse and did not have enough time to figure out what to do so I looked at the walkthrough. The real kicker is, that I DID use the right object one time but I guess I must have used it before freeing myself so it didn't work, OR in my haste I just didn't click it right.

Well, you certainly had the right idea, so I would consider that a win anyway. smile

oldbroad, if I hung my head in shame every time I became impatient in a game, I would be long DEAD from strangulation !!!!! lol

To my mind you are a "model gamer" - and don't let yourself be persuaded any differently praise

lolMad

I just meant that while I may be persistent at times, I am also very impatient at others.

Me too, oldbroad, but I don't think I am ever as "persistent" as you !! wink

Re: Black Mirror 1 - 02/08/18 08:26 AM

I had a hard time in solving the "Altar Puzzle" in chapter 2, so I referred to Mag's great WT and followed her steps (with images) on this puzzle and BINGO, puzzle solved. Thank you AGAIN, Mag.

Mag has helped ALL of us Boomers for so many years, Marian. I just purchased "Lighthouse, The Dark Being" from GOG on sale for $5.99, which I played many years ago. I still have the original boxed version (1996) on my shelf, but of course, it will not run on my WIN 10 PC. GB's great walkthroughs will come in handy once again.
