URU Expansion Install

URU Expansion Install - 05/26/04 06:20 PM

Mary was kind enough to send me a CD of the X-Pack since I have dialup. Anyway, when I put the CD in I get the Install Shield- click next- then it tells me to put in URU CD and it starts to install URU which is already installed.
I'm very confused. Can anyone help?
THanks,

It should be allowed to reinstall the game because X1 has a few small changes to already existing things in Uru.

What you can do to protect yourself from losing your progress is find your "sav" folder and keep the saved game file. Remember where it is, and then create that same folder and put the file into it, in the X1 folder.

Hope I'm making this clear... lol.

Anyway, that should do it. smile Let me know if you need more help Susan.

Good luck! smile

Susan, I have searched high and low and can't find the definitive explanation on what you should do.

Here are my thoughts:

1.) First, make a copy of the SAV directory that exists in your "Uru - Ages Beyond Myst" game directory. This holds all of the details of your current progress in the Uru game. You will need to copy this directory into the Uru directory that exists after the install.

2.) When the To Dni installation wizard starts it may give you the opportunity to choose a directory where you want to install. If I recall, I chose "Uru - Ages Beyond Myst" and it installed "To Dni" into this directory rather than creating a new installation.

3.) When it is done installing, copy that SAV directory back into your Uru - Ages Beyond Myst directory and I believe you will have your former game progress available.

That's the way it's supposed to work, but many have had to start from the beginning (not a problem for me because I really like the game). I can't remember if it actually reinstalled the whole game or just augmented it. You DO need the CD in your drive when installing "To Dni".

I hope this is not to cryptic.

bravo Susan!!!!

Thanks for the help, Dadguy--we will probably have others with this same type of problem when the new game comes out in July (note the date change), so your effort wasn't wasted... wave

Dadguy,

I didn't have to go through all that. Just put in the CD and installed and did exactly what it siad on the screen and it installed just fine. I have XP.

I, too, thought that it was strange that you needed the URU CD, but nonetheless it worked great!

Even if you uninstall URU; all your saves and avatar are intact and the Xpack recognized all of it and attached itself to them.

Hi All.
I also did what MDAMLADY did. I put in the x-pack CD.
After it installed for a while it asked for the URU CD.After it installed from the URU CD it was done and ready to play.I was confused the first time I tried because I didn't know why it asked for the URU CD but Kha'tie from Ubi Soft said that it was needed to install the x-pack.

It's needed because there are subtle changes from ABM to X1 ... some for storyline and puzzles, some for legal reasons. wink
