ALIDA ? - 09/21/04 10:09 PM

Greetings Gamers...
I have gotten familiar with ALIDA...
I have completed the PEGHEAD...
I have completed the POTENTIOMETERS...except for
the very last step...the one where I set the four
FINAL settings...
The T-Flyer flew to the Jacktower and the four
tunnels are available...
Potentiometer 1 is illuminated and set...but the
other 3 are dark and non-accessible...the W/T
does not elaborate...need a guiding clue..please?

Solver,
You have to go up one level in each elevator and turn on the lights. smile

Lady K...

It would have been nice if the W/T had made
mention of going up one more level and turning
on the light...thanks to you I am moving on to
completing the SWITCH...thanks again...SOLVER

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/22/04 01:16 AM

You're welcome, Solver. smile

By the way, I just checked the walkthrough at the Alida site, and the directions are there. I just think it's so packed with information that it's easy to overlook small details.

When I first played, it took me a while to realize I could go up another level. Something that happened with an elevator in Myst surfaced in my gray matter, and I had a mini "aha" moment and pushed the button again.

I have just read 'Alida Quest Here'looking for a
clue...YIKES!!!...so here's my problem...
I am in 'Completing the Switch'...
I am standing in front of the Moon Tone Cabinet..
I have the back panel...87523 and am playing up
a 'storm'...but I cannot make the thing 'fully
operational'...why do you suppose?...

Could sure use a word of advice about here...

Solver,

You should have had the black keys come down when you played the code.

You will need to visit Arin's vault for a further clue in solving this puzzle. Have you done that?

Dear Melanie...
I went back to the Moon Tone Cabinet and tried
the tune again...no luck...I saw in the w/t that
they showed the whole 'shebang'...so I clicked
all ten numbers...and what do you know...the T-
Flyer opened...I went up to see Arin but he did
not show...so I came down and flew to the
Conservatory...totally confusing...please stand

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/22/04 11:07 PM

Solver,
I think it was Tig who mentioned that walking toward the t-rider again triggers the message from Arin, but I haven't tested it myself. I don't remember where I went between my first and second visit (probably everywhere). Anyway, it's a moot point now that the t-rider is operational.

BTW, when you said you went to visit Arin, I'm assuming that you climbed the ladder in the purple light. I think there was some confusion between the strummer viewer (up the elevator by the main vault) and Arin's vault a while back, so I'm just checking to make sure we're on the same page. smile

bottom fell out...
I arrived at Leval's Dungeon and he spoke to me
but no matter what,I could not open his door-

Please tell me how to go about getting the patch

Yes, I did climb the 'purple lit' ladder to visit
Arin...so if any of this makes sense I sure
could use some help...SOLVER

Hello one and all...
I have completed the Switch...
I am now in 'ENDING ALIDA'...
I have gone into Arins study and read his letter
to Julia...
From this point the W/T gets very confusing...

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/24/04 09:03 PM

Solver,
I take it you have solved the conservatory model puzzle and seen Arin's spherin for the correct switch settings. If you have set the switch, peghead, and potentiometers to the settings in the spherins, your next task is to translate the rune code you saw up the switch stairs. Have you found the panel that will help you interpret the code?
Posted By: SOLVER

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/24/04 09:35 PM

Lady K...
Here's my problem...I downloaded the section on
'ENDING ALIDA'and the photo was illegable...
so according to the W/T they said to print out
the 'Switch Lookout Drawing' from the 'Alida
Diagrams'web page...which I did...but that wasn't
any clearer...
so using a 'saved game' I went back to the
'Switch' to see if I could copy it from the wall.
I could not access the 'Switch Ball'...

so...no...I didn't find the panel!...if you mean
the Rune panel I can' even find Luke's vault...

Should I just surrender...SOLVER

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/24/04 10:00 PM

You can access the switch ball from where you are now, Solver, and will just have to reset it according to the spherin. Go to the water tone machine and push the button until the ball is in the center right position of the triangle (B on the keyboard), then go pull the lever to rotate the switch. You'll then gain access to the stairs. You can either make a screen capture of the drawing or copy it by hand, then reset the switch according to the spherin video.

Luke's vault is the one inside the giant sphere under the neck of the guitar.

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/25/04 02:50 AM

Lady K...

Following your sage advice I went back to the
Switch, reset the triangle, and went up the
stairs and copied the Switch Lookout Drawing...
came down, reset the Switch and found Luke's
vault...went down and raised the Neck Support
Stone Gate...
Now if I could only locate the 'FOOTBRIDGE'...I
could move on to the Rune Panel...
Sure could use a bit more of that advice..SOLVER

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/25/04 03:09 AM

Solver,

In the main chamber there are switches on the columns. Have you tried changing the switch & going through the doorways yet?

The Runes panel is by the glass house.

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/25/04 07:10 PM

Melanie and Lady K...

I found the Footbridge..
I did the Rune Panel thing and went back to the
Number Wheels Cabinet and got the code for the
vault doors...
I went up and unlocked Arin's vault...
I then went out to the Strummer and played the
tune...Arin appeared on the video and spoke to
me...he walked away and from that moment nothing
else happened...
I strummed again...nada...I went down and un-
locked the main vault...nothing...
I would very much like to finish this thing...
...can you please help...SOLVER

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/25/04 07:34 PM

Solver,
It sounds like one of your final settings is off. Check the switch first. Many folks have forgotten to pull the lever after setting the water tone machine to the final setting in the spherin. If that doesn't do it, go back to the potentiometers and check the final planet settings. In the peghead, you can tell if you've set the machine heads properly by looking out the peg porthole. If there are no lights, that one is correct. Good luck.

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/26/04 09:29 PM

Dear Lady K...
Thank you for the E-Mail..it was encouraging...

I reset the Switch with the ball in the right
corner of the triangle and pulled the lever...
I redid the entire Peghead and when I finished
there were no lights to be seen thru the port...
I reset the four planet panels in the Potentio-
meters...I even double checked the code for the
vault door locks...

I then went back to the Strummer and when Arin
appeared, not only did he not speak but he looked
at me in disgust...
What do you mean when you say I can access the
Spherins without wandering through the entire
w/t?...once again thanks for your patience...

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/26/04 10:06 PM

I mean that you can go directly to each of the spherins (in the conservatory, at the top of the jack tower, and down the peghead elevator) to make sure you have set everything correctly without replaying each puzzle completely. If you've been going back to saved games, you may have gone back to a place where something was done incorrectly.

This is just a thought, but I have been assuming that you have completed the puzzles that revealed the hidden spherins. You have, haven't you? I know of one person who set the potentiometer planet panels the same as the ones in the cabins instead of using the spherin settings.

Again, before you strum, check again to make sure Arin's vault (up the ladder) and the main vault (by the strummer elevator) is unlocked according to the button code.

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/27/04 06:40 AM

Solver, the switch & the water tone puzzle are what threw me for a loop. The water tone chamber has to have the picture of the keys, not the stairs showing & then you have to hit the switch again.

Check to see if that's your problem. Don't quit. smile

To all of you that have completed ALIDA...
I salute you...

I have just gone back to square one and redid the
entire game...I meticulously followed the walk-
through...every puzzle...aiming at every Spherin
only to end up with Arin...black t-shirt and all
telling me he can't open the doors...

I think it's a great game...graphics...and mouse
control...but I've got to move on...thanks again

Solver, I've been reading of your struggles with Alida and you get a gold star for not having quit the game. But that isn't Arin wearing the black t-shirt! You are so close, please don't quit, just take a break from the game and then go back. I thought the ending of the game was worth the countless times that I went back to puzzles I thought were solved. My biggest problem was I couldn't seem to remember to pull that silly lever one last time. Sue

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/28/04 09:46 PM

Solver,
Setting the three areas correctly makes someone come and open the vault. One of your settings is still off:

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Try this:
Move the water tone machine to its original position (B on the keyboard and white ball in the middle right position of the triangle). Go pull the switch lever to open and close the stairs. (The keyboard etching should be showing.) Go back to the water tone machine and set the keyboard to F (white ball in upper right hand corner). Go back and pull the lever. The switch will rotate so the opening to the stairs is flush with the floor. Walk around the switch to make sure. If you are sure, go enter the button code again on the two vault doors.

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/29/04 02:46 AM

Lady K...here we go...
1. Repositioned white ball in middle right spot
in the triangle...
2. Pulled the lever to open and close the stairs.
3. Returned to water tone and positioned ball in
upper right corner of the triangle...
4. Went back and pulled the lever again...
5. Entered the code in Arin's door and in the
main vault door...
6. Went up to the Strummer...played the tune...
and the guy in the black shirt told me he can't
open the doors...I am totally befuddled..SOLVER

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/29/04 03:40 AM

I think I know what the problem is, Solver. Set the ball in the midddle right first, not the upper right part of the triangle. Then put it in the upper right corner.

You might have to pull the switch again after you do this, but make sure you wind up with the stairs hidden & the piano keys showing on the water tone tank, so you might have to pull it twice. After you do that, try the strummer again.

That switch was the worst part of the game! It was very difficult.

Good Luck!

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/29/04 03:45 AM

When you pulled the lever, did the switch turn over as I explained above? If so, then try this next:

.

.

Take the t-rider to the planetarium and ride each elevator up to the planet panels. Click on the one correct planet, then click the sun to check the flashes.
From the t-rider entrance (I changed the order of the last two for ease of navigation around the main room):
Lower Right (4 planets) - click large reddish-brown planet in outermost ring (short, short, long, short)
Upper Right (5 planets) - click large blue and white planet on diagonal in third ring from sun (short, short, short, long, short, short)
Upper Left (5 planets) - click smallest blue and white planet closest to sun (long, long, short, short, short, short)
Lower Left (4 planets) - click small blue and green planet in second ring from sun (short, long, short, short)

If these settings are correct, then it is the peghead that is wrong.

BTW, I'm assuming you lifted the stone leading to the water house this time through, but I thought I would check to be sure.

Hello Gals...
In my futile struggle to end this game on a
positive note, I now seem to have a new problem..

I went to the Switch to complete Lady K's first
suggestion before I went to the Planetarium to
complete the second suggestion...
But I can't because I'm getting this large white
block in middle of the screen that says...

ALIDA ADVENTURE GAME HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM

INCONVENIENCE.

It just seems to pop up at different times and
places...Have any of you had this situation?

Have you installed the XP patch, Solver?
Posted By: SOLVER

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/29/04 10:58 PM

Lady K...

Yes I installed the patch [I think]...
I went back and was able to complete your
directions in the Switch without a pop up and I
worked my way to the planetarium and completed
that series without a pop up...
...now without damaging the thread I'm trying to
get to Lukes vault, then to Arin's door, the
main vault door and finally the Strummer...
...we shall see...SOLVER

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/29/04 11:51 PM

The patch should be in your Alida Game file. I hope you're saving as you go along.

The only reason to go out to Luke's vault is to lift the stone. The first time I played, I remember doing it soon after I solved the turret puzzle and opened the grate in the big sphere. (I had already walked across the footbridge and realized there was a barrier.) It doesn't matter when it's done but most likely needs to be done before the end.

If this still doesn't work, we'll check the peghead. smile

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/30/04 04:18 PM

Lady K...I just don't believe it...
As I told you, I redid the Switch [no popups]...
I went to the Planetarium and redid that with no
pop ups...I then proceeded to open the Turret
grill and went down to Luke's vault to raise the
stone...I went to Arin's vault and unlocked it...
I went to the Main vault and unlocked it...
I then went up to the Strummer[all of this in one
continuous journey]...played the tune and 'bam'
the guy in the black shirt showed up...
I can't believe ANYONE has had as much trouble
ending a game as this!!!Are these puzzles so
tricky and entwined or am I so dense? SOLVER

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/30/04 04:40 PM

Solver, you are now my latest hero. You didn't give up! I'm no genius, that would be Lady K and the others on this forum that always know the answers. My problem was always the rotating sphere, the last time I thought I had it correct, with the ball in the correct place, I looked at the sphere and could still see the piano keys on the sphere. I pulled the lever again and the ball rotated, keys disappeared and I could strum and finish the game. The only other thing that I remember is that once the strumming was finished, I had to wait a minute or so for the ending to start. Wish I knew how to help you finish this game. Good luck Sue

Re: ALIDA ? - 09/30/04 05:23 PM

Solver,
The fellow in the black shirt will appear in the end sequence. However, it sounds like your settings might be off in the peghead. I am assuming you saved your game after your last strum. If so,

.

go to the peghead. I'm assuming the puzzle under the compass is solved and you have gone down to see the spherin. (If not, do that now.) Check each machine head according to the spherin settings. When facing the room from the t-rider, the machine heads should be set to the following icons:
Top Left - capital

I then went to the Number Wheels Cabinet and put

2s and held the button to activate the t-runner..
I then went to the Peghead and reset all the
machine heads...then I went down and reset the
SPHERIN...went back up and rechecked the machine
heads[right on]...went back to check both the

main vault door opened and the rest is history...
