RIVEN...Generator Island?

I got the WT. I'm suppose to be at #9, the main power generator in a large domed building. I don't see pipes extending from the building to other islands. I'm at a gold domed building with a big machine in the center of it. I don't think I'm in the right place as I'm suppose to walk around the bulding and down a ramp to two switches. I've started from door #3 three times and keep winding up here at the same place. Would someone please tell me what number on the map I'm at. Several people ask if I had played Myst. No I haven't played Myst, is this a must before I play Rivin?

It sounds like you're in the right place. The machine in the center has the pipes going out. The ramps are catwalks inside the dome. You can't get to all of them yet but explore the ones you can access. They'll lead you to a door where you can exit the dome on the other side. That's where you'll find those switches (actually, they're steam valves).
