Blackstone Chronicles

I am playing John Saul's Blackstone Chronicles, and thoroughly enjoying it. I had to go to the walk thru as I got stuck. It said to take the tongs to open the furnace. Where do I get the tongs? I read the walk thru to this point, have done everything it said to, but it didn't say where to find the tongs. I've searched everywhere and need some help. Does anyone know where to find the tongs?

The tongs are in the kitchen--between the cooking pans to the right of the sink.
