Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/01/03 04:50 PM

I know this is an older game - I think someone must have played it sometime or other so I hope to get help - I have the little User Guide that comes with the game and I have the walkthrough from here on GB...I am having trouble finding the "card reader (right of Automap)" to insert my card into the slot - I am having trouble understanding how to do things and how to find things even tho there is not too complicated a system of cursors - it should be simple, but it appears not to be for me........where or where is that card reader and what does the Automap look like (cannot find any yellow button).....

Hi Betty Lou,

I remember playing this a while back and gave up on the underwater part.

I will check with Lady High Mucky Muck if she remembers this part, OK.

Hi Betty

The card reader is in the front of the boat on the console - and I think it's to the left -

Let me load in the game and make sure I'm telling you correctly. Be back in a few

A Few laugh

Betty if you look straight ahead out the front window of the boat and click left you'll find both the card reader and the automap.

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/03/03 02:15 PM

Hi Syd,
I am standing at the front of the boat in front of that large fake steering wheel.....to my left on the console/desk top is the autopilot (is this what we should call the automap?) clicking on this map just tells me that it is the autopilot and there is no yellow button, no slot or place to insert this card.... to my right is the telephone/internet unit.....
I have also looked up above the window here and there is a display of stuff but no automap or slot for the card....
just call me dense, but I can't find it so I can get this game started....Or am I supposed to leave this bridge and go out to that little boat outside on that deck - tried to do that and was told it 'was not a good idea'...

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/03/03 02:28 PM

Betty do you see the thing that looks like a handle on the left? That's the card insert. Just take the card and place it sorta behind that handle but in the general area (it doesn't have to be exact).

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/05/03 05:39 PM

"HEY YOU GUYS!" (just love GOONIES - the movie) and when we went to dinner at the Hometown Buffet Sun eve we even got to see CHUNK!!! looked just like him too!
Now, I am tickled to have touched some 'tickle' spots here, or are they 'sore spots' and should I leave them alone?
I am determined to play through this game, with the help of others who have tried and maybe succeeded, or tried and quit but may be able to give a clue or tip here and there......
SPOILER...Don't look here if you don't want blatant out and out directions as I do!
I am here:
Automap; ABC Button; Touched Red Square on Hawaii; Route red line from Hawaii to Palau; On arrival I pushed green START button; 1/2 way there was interrupted by video from J Braddy; The video is automatically installed in Edward's DATABASE (first D in his name); Then I went to "D" to view it again (shoose Braddy Video Tape) and then clicked on analysis and the coordinates were automatically installed and I got the Keywords (Bais+JohnBraddy+Legend+Palau+WorldwideHeritage).....I am supposed to PRESS the green check mark (mine is not green it is yellow, but so what) and (according to the walkthrough - and send this to either the encyclopedia or the data storage) BUT the only option I get is "send to album? Yes or No?"
I am <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="confused.gif" /> I am already in DataStorage so why do I have to send it there again and how do I do this now? I got the wrong question to answer...... Have tried (one of these attempts) to send the info to the encyclopedia but when I go there cannot find it...... Why do I want to send it to my album? What will I do with it there?
Any HELP would be appreciated.......and thanks a million.....

tap, tap, tap, (foot); drum, drum, drum (fingers); twiddle, twiddle, twiddle; knit 1 purl 2, knit 1, purl 2 etc........I Vow to be PATIENT, really I do.......have lots of other things to do while I wait for an answer= do I send the Keywords to the ALBUM or not? options to send them to encyclopedia or Data Storage are not available to me in the game as the walkthrough says -

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/06/03 12:40 AM

Betty Lou, I am one of the unlucky laugh people who have never played this game, so I can only make a suggestion--why not save and then try sending to your album and see what happens...

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/06/03 02:59 AM

Betty send it to Album then click on the W and type in the keywords. After Edward analyzes it then the option to send to data storage or encyclopedia comes up.

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/06/03 03:01 AM

From the comments being made here, Jenny, you can probably count yourself as one of the LUCKY ones who have not played this game - I cannot decide if it is just too difficult to do or if it has too many pixle hunts, or what - and since I like it so far (just call me weird) I don't want to give up on it.....and yes I have saved just before getting that question and have tried to proceed but then cannot get things to work the way the walkthrough says they are supposed to....I don't suppose the writers of that walkthrough are still around to help out with these 'sticky' places any more?

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/06/03 05:00 PM

Thanks Syd...I have done all the searching and storing of the word/s that were "successful" and am now back at the automap - I can only assume that those words that could not be found either data will come up later for them or not and then I guess I won't need it/them...
Thanks for all your help - I will be back - probably - unfortunately - as I am sure I will get stuck somewhere else here.....thanks again

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/06/03 05:56 PM

Question - how do I use the camera on that dive suit? There does not appear to be any "click" cursor to take a picture - my only active cursors are the straignt arrow or the "x" lower right of my screen both which take me back to the boat.....only slightly confused here.

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/07/03 12:24 AM

How do I "take a picture" while on this dive? I do not see/understand how this is done....thanks

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/07/03 01:22 AM

Betty the only thing I remember doing is when whatever I was going to take a picture of comes into view I clicked on the left mouse button and it took the picture.

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/08/03 12:27 AM

I cannot understand why it does not work for me - I am first off not sure what I need to take a picture of but have clicked myself silly all over the 'camera' screen while underwater and always return to the boat/ship just in time to hear Edward tell me it was a "Bogus Dive" - I take it that means I did not get even 1 shot.....don't know what I am doing wrong.
I have tried to contact Enteractive and asked if there was a Users Manual or Users Guide offered when the game was originally sold but have not heard back from them yet and assume they got my email as it has not bounced back at me yet...
It would have been helpful if there were a little manual that showed what the different cursors looked like and how to do something (like take a picture)....

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/08/03 12:53 AM

Betty - if Edward is telling you it's a bogus dive you're not in the right dive location. Where are you trying to dive?

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/08/03 03:43 PM

According to the walkthrough = I have sailed to Palau and chosen ISC No. 1 for this first dive - I think I will go back to the automap and check to be sure I chose the right place - thanks for the hint.

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/08/03 04:22 PM

Thanks Syd, it helps to be in the right place!!!
Now, I have returned after taking my 5 pictures and am in the Angel Shark pool area downstairs....walkthrough says I am supposed to get a video from Jean-Michel - have waited around down here but nothing happens, so returned to the bridge and thought I would be alerted to an incoming video but NOT - am I supposed to go looking for it or have I not done something else I need to - Don't I have to transfer those pictures to the picture album or analyze them or something? HOW?

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/08/03 04:41 PM

I am not sure what is supposed to happen next or what I am supposed to do - I am hanging out up here on the bridge, have checked Edward and the 5 photos are in the album, have clicked on each one and done bioanalysis but don't get the results (just asked to return is available) and don't know where they should be transferred to anyway....no video from J-M or anyone else....now what?

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/08/03 05:21 PM

Betty if you didn't get an option to send the info to Capucci then one or more of the pictures weren't identified correctly.

The video you are talking about from Cousteau is random - it just gives you another dive. Sometimes you'll get it, sometimes you won't. Don't worry about it - it's not important to finishing the game.

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/09/03 02:21 PM

I simply don't understand me - the reason I am sticking with this game is that I LIKE IT! even though I haven't a clue what to do or how to do it - and even with the walkthrough I am stumped as to how to accomplish the described task some of the time - Go figure....
I do have a question - I am on DIVE 2 and have to take 9 pictures....are the last 3 all of the moray eel? Or only the last 2 = there is a fish or two before the eel that I have not been able to get a photo of and that 3rd picture of the eel is when my 'sled' gets damaged, I end up back onboard and get chastised and have no pictures so have to do it again = any suggestions?

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/09/03 03:16 PM

I looked at my notes and unfortunately didn't write down what the pictures were so I don't know how many of what you need to take. You can't stop the sled from being damaged - that's just part of the game. But you should have the pictures you already took, if memory serves and just need to go back to that one location and take whatever pictures you missed. For some reason I seem to remember taking multiple pictures of the manta ray but I could be wrong.

I finished it for the same reason - as buggy and as big as a pain in the neck this game was - it was interesting. Also at the time I played it, I was a big Cousteau fan.
Posted By: Betty Lou

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/10/03 09:28 PM

OK syd, and thanks. I thought that because I allowed the sled to get damaged by hanging out too long with that moray that I did not have the pictures I needed, will have to try again and forge ahead even after getting bawled out - thanks

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/11/03 07:14 PM

I have been having trouble with each dive and my final analysis of each - the walkthrough tells me that I should end up with a list of keywords but in some cases I get 3 words out of 4 or whatever instead of EXACTLY what I am supposed to get -
Up to now I have forged ahead with rest of analyses and transfering to either E or A but this Alert Dive is giving me a headache:
I got 4 pictures, came up to bridge and talked to Ed, went to Data storage and looked for Shinkoku, did Bio-analysis process (except on #4 the skull, no analysis available), my bio results were 12% and got keywords BOMBS HAILSTONE TRUK WRECKS - when I go to the WEB and search each keyword I got only Truk and The People Of Truk, but get "unsuccessful" on the other 3 words - so do not get any info on explosions, wrecks in Truk Lagoon or anything else I need to get more coords to sites - what am I doing wrong?
Love, Betty Lou
P.S. Still love this game, just getting annoyed and frustrated again.

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/12/03 03:54 PM

How are you entering the words into the web? When you do a search are you putting a plus sign between each word?

Sounds like you're doing the Braddy Dive - the Alert dive should have given you nothing since the water was too polluted for an analysis.

If you still can't get it to work - send me a save and I'll take a look at it. It's just been too many years between me and this game.

If memory serves the saves are in the windows file not in a save game file.

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/14/03 02:21 PM

Have sailed off to other places and love those underwater dives and picturetaking tasks, BUT have a bit of a techie prob here - and think I read about similar prob somewhere for this game - am trying to set sail for Eten (do not remember if/when the coords were downloaded by Edward) and keep getting an 'error message' and dumped back to my desktop - I will try backing up to an earlier save (makes for a lot of stuff to do over what with the photo analysis/transfer procedures) but maybe this will correct my stuckness.....any suggestions you can add? Or do you know how others solved this problem?

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/14/03 05:07 PM

I do not understand how this game could run just fine with the required color settings up to this point and then just quit working - Now I cannot get the game to run at all, keeps giving me error message - do you think it would run OK on my other computer which has WIN95 (I have WIN98 on this one)? And do I then have to start all over from the beginning? Phooey! mad

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/14/03 05:31 PM

Betty this game is buggy - i think you're at the spot Mad was at when she had to quit. I played the game on an older computer and I remember it crashed a few times but I managed to get through it - I don't know if it's a speed problem or not. Try it on your W95 and maybe even use Turbo or another slow down utility. You can transfer your saves over so you don't have to start from scratch. Good luck.

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 08/29/03 02:46 PM

I'mmmmmmm back.....have installed this on my W95 with no trouble, have not been successful in transferring my saved games (this game does not put them where you think they would be, and the place it does put them I have inserted my saves but they do not show up in my list in the game - so have decided to try to replay it and forget those saves, just see if/how long it will run on this computer and if there will be any problems with it.....good thing I have good notes on this one, will make it easier to redo what I had already done before.....thanks for any and all help...

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 09/02/03 02:47 PM

a brief update - this game is WONDERFUL! plays perfectly (up to now, knock on wood) and even the dives are going smoother with WIN95 - I swear most of the conversations (now) have added stuff that did not appear with WIN98 and wonder how that is possible, then again maybe it is my imagination and my 'old' rememberer....
I'm dumping my saves from first time around with WIN98 as I cannot make them work with WIN95 and it is too frustrating to keep trying.....on my way to Dive #3 now....see ya later if I get stuck again

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 09/03/03 04:30 PM

Hello again - I am stuck - page 3 of the w/t says "Go to Automap and sail to Eten (this is an Island). Back out and go to the island."
I assume this means to put my cursor at the bottom of my screen and see that funny triangle, choose "ISLAND" from the places I can go, but nothing happens, I am still on the bridge of my vessel.....and I have tried to use that rubber dinghy down below and Edward keeps saying "No Way".....is this a 'pixel' hunt for just the right spot on the Automap to go to? Or am I at the right spot but missing something here? Please, help me get to the Island....Thanks

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 09/03/03 04:48 PM

NEVERMIND! I got it! I was not in the right place on the Automap, fiddled around with it a bit and found my 'mark' - am now on the Island and it is beautiful......thanks anyway

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 09/04/03 03:38 PM

No problems on the Island, just need to complain - this jungle maze is a big pain in the ...
It would be nice if there was a map to help me find my way around - I stumbled onto the Grotto by accident when I was looking for that old headquarters building and am now having trouble finding it from that old building, keep making a wrong turn somehow - that blasted directional arrow cursor is sure hard to find and this is one big painful pixel hunt! I WILL keep on looking however, as want to get on with this one.

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 09/05/03 12:20 AM

OK, Question - according to the w/t I am to "leave the building" (the headquarters) "move forward three steps to a path" (does not say anything about turning left or right first) I have moved my cursor all over the scene directly in front of me after stepping out the doorway of that building and want to know if the 'flash' of my arrow directional cursor that I see only briefly - that is if I don't blink - is actually trying to appear so I can take a step forward or is this a buggy glitch in the game.....I am sure getting tired of trying to find an arrow here and it only very briefly appears and disappears so fast I can't click on it to move forward.....going crazy and getting frustrated!

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 09/06/03 11:16 PM

I cannot figure out what is up with that 'ghost' cursor/arrow but it does not matter now, as I finally found my way to the headquarters, the old building and the grotto....am way past that now and have a new problem -
Have taken 6 pictures at Peleliu and am trying to get analysis of them to get new 'enigma' (words) but there seems to be a problem= I apparently taken 1 more picture than I needed (only needed 5) and am not now sure that I have all 5 of the required ones; I get no 'enigma' after analysing those 6 and do not know why - should I back up and go take those pictures again? just to be sure I have the ones I need or is there a problem here getting the databank to 'cough up' the words I need? HELP please

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 09/07/03 03:52 PM

HELP! someone please - I backed up to a save just before taking those 5 pictures of the pictograms in the Bais on Peleliu and went back to Edward on the ship to analyze them - I am supposed to get another enigma and a list of words - but I do not get this end result - it tells me I took 5 pictures, it analyzed 5 pictures and 3 were interesting - so now what do I do? Stuck at this point as I need to get a look at those pictures.....thanks for helping if you can whoever you are

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 09/09/03 10:30 PM

Betty I checked my notes and don't really have anything so I must not have had any problems. I did write down what the pictures looked like and maybe that will help you:

People in boat
Boat and rock at trees
House - 5 men in front
Tree - rock - three people
3 guys in boat with fish

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 09/10/03 01:08 AM

I guess I will just try to search Edward's W(eb) for the words even tho the analysis did not cough them up for me and see if I can proceed in the game anyway. Thanks for trying. And hope you had a good 'minivacation'. I will post here whatever I find out.

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 09/11/03 12:20 AM

Whilst awaiting a reply here I went and registered at JA forum and posted same question - only response so far was to suggest it is a technical problem with the speed of my computer....I do not believe it is so, and have gone back to the game, and entered the words from the walkthrough that I was supposed to get from the analysis of the photos, and did a web search on Edward with those words, and got the required results and have proceeded on my merry way. Having fun with this game. Don't know what the problem was here unless the walkthrough was not thorough enough on its instructions and I was not able to figure out more on my own....oh well, I am now trying to zero in on the Jelly Fish Lake site to take more pictures.....WHAT FUN!

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 09/12/03 02:42 AM

Hi Syd. In your notes do you by any chance have the (number) coordinates for the site of JellyFish Lake? I am having trouble 'hitting the mark' to sail there, and can't seem to get right where I need to be to make my dive......got my fingers crossed you have the numbers. And yes I talked to Braddy twice and Edward entered the coords twice.......too bad the game maker did not include clues to the coordinates which then could be used on that automap to verify just where the ship is to sail to.

Re: Sacred Mirror of Kofun - 09/12/03 02:59 PM

Hi Betty - sorry, no such luck with the lake coordinates frown I just have listed how many photos I took. I can't for the life of me remember where the lake even is - I do remember swimming with all the jellyfish and that was pretty cool and also claustrophobic laugh

I'm going to post my question here also......I don't think I'll get into trouble.I'm at the point of the enigma after the Jellyfish dive. I can place 3 of the 4 thingies but putting the last thing.....the polyp in the right place is so hard. No luck yet. I need help.
