NECRONOMICON - invoke spirit help

Somebody please help me. A friend and I are playing Necronomicon. We are in the room with the Pentagram on the floor. We have placed the Euphorbia, the ashes with the EL initials, the diamond and the sheet of paper with the Phaleg Eliphas Levis name on it. Our candle has been lit. when we lay all the items down and use the lighter, a fire appears then goes out as if we have done something wrong. Basically telling is to invoke something else. What did we do wrong? Is there a glitch in my game? The walkthrough says we've done it right. I don't get it. Please help us.

Did you place the styrax in there too?

Look at all the other cards in the drawer. You might find one that is a better match. Also be absolutely sure you have Euphorbia and not some other herb.
