Adventure Games Magazines - 07/01/07 10:11 AM

Are there any magazines in the States which deal only with Adventure Games. Here in the UK, the contents are all about war, shooting, killing etc., A few years ago you could read a couple of articles and get the odd demo on a disc of an up and coming game but no more!
Going purely by your fabulous website, there is a huge amount of interest in this area. Someone will make a killing! (excuse the pun) wave

Hi Upsydaisy --

No print magazines here dedicated just to adventure gaming. There are print magazines that will occasionally review an adventure game (frequent complaints about adventures in these reviews -- the graphics aren't up to snuff, the pace of the game is too slow, the puzzles are way too obscure).

There does seem to be something in the air, though -- more recognition that women are gamers (even, gasp, that older men and women are gamers) and that this demographic likes puzzling in their adventures or in their casual games. I am expecting this to be beneficial to our favorite genre, but a print magazine dedicated just to adventures is not terribly likely.

Hi Becky
Thanks for reply. I have been playing adventure games since they first appeared (I'm 57). Have always had a thing for computers had a sinclair and amiga. My greatest achievment was getting the amiga to draw a triangle, after pages of programming. Thank God for Bill Gates and Windows.
Used to like the articles in mags due to screenshots and reviews, which are no longer needed now we have Gameboomers.

On Monday and Tuesday I was in Germany doing a press tour for So Blonde and one of the magazines we visited was Play Vanilla, a gaming mag aimed squarely at women. When I was given a copy I was pretty impressed that they'd come up with something that was a gaming mag yet had the design style and feel of a quality women's lifestyle mag.

I can't read German, but it was refreshing to flick through and be able to tell that there was a different emphasis on the tone of games covered. It's a real shame it's not available in other languages (though it's still very new) as I'm sure that I'd prefer reading it to the over-macho feel of many gaming mags. smile
