Disappointed with Jewels of the Oracle

Disappointed with Jewels of the Oracle - 07/07/07 02:26 PM

I must say I was quite disappointed when I started to play JotO. I really don't mind having the 'mega puzzle' based adventure games but I was expecting a bit more adventure and a LOT less puzzles.

I also have Quest for Karma and since it is the 'sequel' to Jewels then I suppose that it is built along the same lines : mainly a collection of puzzles with little or no adventure?

I sure wish I had read some reviews before purchasing this (these) games :o(

I only played part of Jewels of the Oracle (see below), but yes, I believe that Quest for Karma is very similar, being basically just one puzzle after another. I'm sorry you weren't aware of that before you purchased them.

If you will permit me to meander down memory lane a bit, what I am amused now to recall is how poorly Jewels of the Oracle ran on my machine when I purchased it shortly after its release; the jewels took forever to fall during the intro screen, and I remember thinking it was time to get a new computer. wave

Jewels of the Oracle, Jewels 2, and Quest for Karma are all puzzle games. I wish there were more games like this. You can play them when your time is limited and you have long intervals between your playing sessions. In more involved games, you'd lose track of the story or the layout of the gameworld.

Having already played Jewels 2 and Jewels of the Oracle, I was disappointed in Quest for Karma though. Most of the puzzles were the same or close variants of puzzles in the other two games.

"Jewels of the Oracle" is rather dated, but I quite liked it. Sorry it wasn't what you were expecting.

I really enjoy puzzle heavy games, so Jewels of the Oracle and Jewels 2 were right up my alley. Like Jenny100, I found they were good snacks for the brain which could be interrupted.

I enjoyed Jewels of the Oracle too. Some of the puzzles were very challenging, but they were all fun. I do remember the puzzle where you had to fit different shapes into a grid being particularly fiendish, I must have spent hours sweating over that one.
