Desert Island Games - 12/30/07 09:00 PM

(For non-UK members.......BBC Radio 4 has a programme called Desert Island Discs in which a well-known person is invited to select 10 records they would like to have with them were they trapped on a desert island for a long but indefinite period. They are also allowed 2 books - The Bible and the complete works of Shakespeare).

Here's the scenario - you are trapped on a desert island. You have a computer (with an array of solar panels to power it) but no internet connection. You have a restore disc for your operating system and a DVD full of necessary patches, along with an archive of the Gameboomers walkthroughs and helpful postings. Which 10 games would you want to have with you? They don't all have to be Adventure Games, but - lacking an internet connection - they cannot be online games. And which 2 books, if any?

I'd take:

The Broken Sword Series (all 4)

Amerzone

Syberia

Paradise

Still Life

Lego Star Wars (the silliest game ever devised)

Frozen Bubble (not an Adventure Game but great fun and totally addictive - check it out here.

Books would have to be Roger Penrose's "The Road to Reality" (I might even finish it!) and Gilbert Sinoue's "Avicenne ou la route d'ispahan" (my all-time favourite read.

How about you?

A Bright, Blessed and very, very,Happy New Year to one and all catrub

I'd take the RHEM games, the Detalion games, the Myst games, the Gabriel Knight games, the LucasArts adventure games, Morpheus, Faust, Sanitarium, Amerzone, the Syberias, Atlantis 2, Timelapse, Obsidian, the Zorks, and a few others.

Re: Desert Island Games - 12/31/07 12:29 AM

Probably Divine Divinity, The Witcher, Zanzarah and a few other RPG types because they last longer than most adventure games, and the first two Discworlds because they're long games and always make me laugh.
Books is a tougher choice - probably William Gammill's "The Gathering" and Kahlil Gibran.

Re: Desert Island Games - 12/31/07 12:38 AM

Hmmm, 10 games,

Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder
Azada
Super Granny 3
Super Granny 4
Crystal Key 2
Voyage
80 Days
Mysterious Journey 2
Keepsake
3D Home Architect

As for books, that's the hardest as I read about 4 books a week so it's hard to just pick 2.

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell (cause I can't seem to get through all of it at home)

Stephenie Myer's trilogy of Vampire Books, I just can't split them up.

I think I would have an easier time coming up with 10 books and 2 games to be honest.

This is a tough one!

I think my games would be:

Broken Sword 1-4
Grim Fandango
Gabriel Knight 1-3
Tetris
Solitaire

Books, I'm not so sure so I'll leave it just at games.

Re: Desert Island Games - 12/31/07 02:35 PM

Only TEN!!!!! and only TWO!!!!! this is very hard think

Darkness within and Return to Mysterious Island ( love both games and you can keep trying to get a higher score)

Syberia 1 & 2 for its wonderful graphics and story.

Grim Fandango and all 3 Discworlds for the humour.

Bejewlled and Spider Solitare

Books - Earth Abides by George R Steward ( puts to rest worries about global warming and the suvival of humans) and the complete works of Conan Doyle

Why do I have the feeling I will want to edit this in about 10 minutes?

Happy New Year to one and all :HNY:

Re: Desert Island Games - 01/01/08 03:51 PM

These would keep me ticking over for a good while:

Black Mirror
Syberia 1 & 2
Still Life
Culpa Innata
Dreamfall
Secrets of Da Vinci
Return to Mysterious Island
Hoyle Board Games
Pandora's Box
Zoo Tycoon 2

Books: Being a Holmes nut, I would absolutely have to take The Complete Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, along with A William Burroughs Reader (because it's hard to choose just one favourite novel of his).

Finally made it after being intercepted by another thread....

Let's see, games would have to be Riddle of the Sphinx, Ravenhearst, Fairway Solitaire, Keepsake, Jewel Quest Solitaire, Syberia, 80 Days, ND - Secret of the Old Clock and Blue Moon Canyon and Paintshop Pro(if I had it)
Books would be the combined writings of Lord of the Rings Trilogy(which is one book) and a dictionary.

I would say:

The Moment of Silence
Indigo Prophecy
Amerzone
The Tex Murphy Series
Grim Fandango

I want games that I can replay, not just games that I like.
