Ugly Prince Duckling

Ugly Prince Duckling - 04/02/07 12:10 AM

Well so far there are too many annoyances in this game. For one, Someone is always blocking the way for Hans. It almost appears deliberate the way all the characters pile up on Mr. Andersen blocking his path. You must back track and pray when you go back that the way is cleared. Also I find it annoying that all the characters talk and Mr. Andersen does not. I still keep waiting for him to answer when asked a question, or just respond with some simish language, but nada.
Also the game is way too easy so far. I wish I had a five year old here to watch play it. Id probably have more fun. lol
Wish Id spent my money on something else. I blame the screenshots for selling me this game. They were so gorgeous I just thought I had to have it. rolleyes
Hope I've learned a lesson. whistle

I agree JB. I haven't been able to finish yet, because I find it too frustrating. I will finish it, but I am in no hurry. The graphics are nice though, but a game needs more that to hold my interest.

Bummer JohnBoy, sorry to hear it's a disappointment. I know what you mean, I'm a sucker for screenshots too. Gets me every time. woozy
Got anything else waiting to be played? Hope the next one will be better!

Is it just me or is anyone else experiencing long load times between scenes. After saving a game, waiting to return to the game is a very long wait also. I find navigating around the people in this game frustrating too.

Not just you lspace, it takes a long time for me too. And yes, the navigation is frustrating to say the least.

I might be in the minority here but, I am playing it now and enjoying everything about it.

Its not just you. I thought I'd never get into the mill at one point. It took so long I thought the game froze. But after the first time it did not take as long. lol
As soon as I finish I may sell it, unless it turns out to be a keeper. But I really doubt it.

Re: Ugly Prince Duckling - 04/02/07 03:15 PM

If it weren't for the issues that everyone is complaining about I would consider this game a keeper. The graphics are gorgeous, the music wonderful and the story is quirky enough to keep me interested but I don't think I will be playing this one again.

Re: Ugly Prince Duckling - 04/02/07 03:21 PM

I could be misremembering, but my impression of the advertising for this one led me to believe that it was developed for a younger set of gamers than most of us. We adults tend to want to play everything that is available out there. Yes, there may be some manuevering around problems with it and load times too but the story content is not exactly "rocket science", geared to a younger audience maybe? Yet we all seem to have patience with OUR games beyond sensibility and do not criticize so harshly. Where's the consistency in that? I like the game well enough, good fill in for my frustration with the arcade games in Wonderland Adventures which have made me throw up my hands (full of my hair by the way) and GIVE UP! rolleyes As for the price, I see so many of us here paying $30, $40 and $50 dollars for games that if one is just patient they come down in price or are available on our Trading Post much cheaper..... thumbsup We are a contrary group I guess.

Re: Ugly Prince Duckling - 04/02/07 03:31 PM

BL, other than one mention here that the game is easy that was stated as a comment, not a complaint, the issues here are the navigation and other glitchy things in the game that should not be there regardless what age group it was intended for. When you can't move the person to the area you want to and spend 3/4's of your gameplay just trying to get to where you need be, I would consider that to be a game that is not living up to it's potential.

As for spending money on games, if the majority of us did not pay full price and rush to buy the games as they are released, there would be no games made. The publishers do not make money on our trading post. Nor would there be any games to trade if someone didn't buy them first. laugh

Re: Ugly Prince Duckling - 04/02/07 04:53 PM

I know what you mean JohnBoy. Screenshots got me hooked on Al Emmo, but the actual game graphics didn't measure up to my expectations (ditto the storyline).
mad mad mad
And to make matters worse, it cost a lot of money.

Hi Carrie..

The Graphics in this game are Superb....Its mostly not a real popular game..Cause of some of the game play...I find the Interface to be easy to use...Also I might add...Some people like games that are more of a Challenge for the money they spent...This game is not a Real Challenge..
Puzzles well...If you want to call them puzzles..are virtually none..
I happen to Really like the Game...A+

Edit: Just finished the game...I smell an another HCA adventure!!!..Great Game

Just curious, how many CDs does this game come on (I wish they would tell you on the outside of the box)? I've seen it in Gamestop recently. Also, is this game only out in NA or is it available in Europe as well?

Re: Ugly Prince Duckling - 04/05/07 05:10 PM

Hammer, it comes on 2 cd's. It is a sweet little game in spite of all the annoyances. However it is definitely for children or the child in us. lol

Hammer -- it released earlier in Denmark (I'm assuming it released in a Danish language version there).

It also appears to be available in Australia.

I don't see it listed at the U.K. online store Play.com, though.

Re: Ugly Prince Duckling - 04/07/07 08:05 PM

Well I just finished the game today. It was a cute game.
It would have been much more enjoyable playing it with a child.
The game did give me a lot of trouble. Navigation was aweful. Extremely long load times. Freezing up during a save which was a major headache. You'd lose the save and have to do everything all over from the previous save.
But if this is going to be a series I'll probably buy the others just because the characters & settings are so darn cute and colorful.

Re: Ugly Prince Duckling - 04/08/07 05:07 PM

So, call me a child, (or a monkey, I guess) but I'm enjoying playing this game very much, stayed up until past 3 A.M last night/early morning playing it and having fun. Yes, it has all the problems mentioned, but the adventure is there with the character having stuff to do and moving things along willy-nilly. Sliders/mechanical puzzles/fighting/stealth are not adventure and this game hasn't made the mistake of trying to stretch out the game by adding annoyances like these! I'm delighted with it and will certainly look for any sequels that might come along in the future.

Sierramindy, that was just a joke aimed at Rusty. If you were offended I am sorry. I said I liked the game. It was eye candy and the characters were flawless. I happened to mention I would have enjoyed it better had I a child to play it with. Again I am sorry if I offended you. I was not saying that adults who play the game are child monkeys.

Hey, a game for me! Some of the games I've played are so hard I need to keep a WT open on my desktop to get through it... then I still end up at Gameboomers for help!

No, No, JohnBoy,
I was not the least bit offended. No need for you to be sorry about your post as far as I am concerned. I am playing the game with a child's enjoyment of it. I'm not sure how much a monkey would enjoy it, but I thought it was funny to add that little aside to my post.
As for playing the game with a child, I think that would add to my fun too. Even if the child was better at the game than I am. It's a game, it's made for fun not for showing off. On the other hand, those that like to be challenged have a different outlook on the game, I would imagine, like maybe being bored?
