Nancy Drew games

Just finished the latest ND game and was wondering. Since I have never read any of the ND books, do the games stick with how the story is written, or is there a lot of stuff added to enhance the game? Is this also true with Agatha's and the Sherlock Holmes games?

I haven't read any of the ND books either. AC's And Then There Were None (the game) differs quite considerably from the novel; there are lots of bits added, and of course the character Narracott doesn't appear in the book. None of the Sherlock Holmes games are adapted from any Conan Doyle story; the stories were written recently and specifically for the games themselves.

I read Nancy Drew when I was young and can't remember any plot remotely like the games. I could be wrong but I think they're modern inventions. Probably the closest to the original idea would have been "Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon", since it was set back in an earlier time and she had the use of a car. In the books, she drove her own "roadster". Also her father featured in the books and I can't remember the Hardy Boys in any of them. They had their own set of books.

I never read Nancy Drew but many of the game titles come from the books, I believe Secret of the Old Clock was said to be based on the book?

I read most of the Nancy Drews, and all of the Christe books. The Nancy Drews are only vaguely close. The AC's closer. The last AC Evil Under the Sun has quite a bit of the book with some things added, for puzzles and such. Still I liked the games and the books. I would buy any game based on AC books just to see how close they could get, just like the movies, they change things for effect. I do notice that the Nancy Drews always try to teach something. Scarlet Hand for instance.

I haven't read any Nancy Drew but I have read most Agatha Christie and have read all Sherlock Holmes - and my opinion would be to say that these games are "in the style of"

I haven't read any of the modern books recently enough to remember. I did read the older versions of the books (from the 1940's), and none of them are much like the current ones.


The Agatha Christie games seem very close to the original stories, though they have different endings. You meet the same characters in the game that you do in the book of the same name, only a different person "did it."

The Sherlock Holmes games from Frogwares are original stories. In spirit I thought Secret of the Silver Earring was closest to a Sherlock Holmes story. Or if you want to go pre-Frogwares, Case of the Serrated Scalpel and Case of the Rose Tattoo were also similar in spirit to the books by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.


It actually had little to do with the book other than the name. I read somewhere that it combined elements of something like 5 different Nancy Drew books.

I loved Agatha Christy books as a child and still like those kind of books and games .I think I am a fustrated want to be detective I noticed the last game Evil under the sun .In the book and film .He had a boy not a girl .The best one the perfect murder 10 little indian boys .The point was they all died even the killer and what do they do in the film .Turn it into a love story and let the last 2 live

The original Nancy Drew books written in the 1930s and 1940s are nothing like the games. Nancy drove a roadster and there were no cell phones or ther devices to help her and her friends solve mysteries. The descriptions and the dialogue reflected a society that depended on what they could see and hear and deduce using their brain - no computers to help Nancy in the original books.

I was on about Agatha Christy sorry .Never read the Nancy Drew books .
