Elbow-greased Send-off of Name the Game

Elbow-greased Send-off of Name the Game - 02/13/07 02:06 AM

The time has once again arrived to start a new Name The Game thread.

Quote:
...so many replies, so little space!!! Rules, for those who haven't participated before, the person who is IT gives clues to an Adventure game, the person who guesses correctly becomes IT. This is an ongoing game, relax, guess and enjoy!!!
Chrissie is IT, having supplied the following clue:

Quote:

Oh dear!
Daddy's not here!
I don't know why? His...
..apartment I will try! smile
Salar of Myst just guessed that the clue refers to the game Lifestream, and Mad has just guessed that the clue refers to the game Secret Files: Tunguska.

Additional guesses are welcome, and chrissie will let us know if these guesses (or any other potential future guesses) are correct.

(If anyone wishes to see the last page of the Chocolate Impoundage of Name The Game thread, it's here. )

Looks like another tribute to the the game inventory. This one allows the player to carry a live worm?

Re: Elbow-greased Send-off of Name the Game - 02/13/07 04:16 PM

An agave is a kind of cactus that liquor like mescal and tequila is made from. really good tequila has an agave worm in it.

I've just been thinking that Broken Sword 2 (which I'm playing now) had a tequila worm in it and yes, it did make me squirm. I was glad when it disappeared from inventory.

Re: Elbow-greased Send-off of Name the Game - 02/15/07 07:44 PM

Has to be Legend of Kyrandia I. Old, weird game. It was strangely appealing to me at that time. I developed cravings for berries while playing that game.

If you feed the main character a fireberry, it burns his mouth. If you feed him a blueberry, you hear a gulp sound, and he says 'crunchy'. There are also gems and other fruits lying around or on trees in the forest. If he gets lost in the cave maze when his fireberry burns out, he gets eaten by monsters or something. So he has to get to other fireberry locations in the cavern before his fireberries burn out.

Re: Elbow-greased Send-off of Name the Game - 02/17/07 08:34 PM

That's gotta be it, Becky. The irritating thing about that game was that even though you had plenty of clues about what was really going on - you had no meaningful alternatives :/

The drama in that game was incredible, as I remember. Some decent acting & set designs in that one. The music section was quite amusing and was worked in well. Offered some nice relief from the general tension. Remember how freaky it was when the ghost would suddenly try to warn you - with her violin playing and all that? Very well done!

Zork Nemesis.

I posted the final clue because I wasn't sure if we want to keep the others guessing.

Anyway, since Becky got it, perhaps Becky could give us the riddle for the next game.

For the rest, thanks for trying.

Salar, thanks for your comments. I don't think the ghost actually tried to warn the player. In fact, I think the poor girl was murdered before she had any idea what was really happening. Thus her spirit could only beg any hero that has ventured into the temple premises to help them.

Cheers, keep playing, and keep guessing.

Re: Elbow-greased Send-off of Name the Game - 02/18/07 08:55 AM

Hi Benedict -- I added a spoiler tag (as I did with my answer) because those who haven't played this Zork game may not want to know the ending twist. That's why I put a spoiler tag when I guessed which game it was.

Here's my clue:

Why are these young men disappearing? And why are so many of them tall?
Posted By: Benedict

Re: Elbow-greased Send-off of Name the Game - 02/18/07 04:11 PM

Becky, you have accidentally let the cat out of the bag:

"those who haven't played this ____ game..."

smile

For "Guess the Game" I suggest we could have a new type of activity. Give our boomers a quote and let them guess the adventure game characters who made the remark.

Re: Elbow-greased Send-off of Name the Game - 02/18/07 04:46 PM

Hey Benedict - there are lots of Zork games! laugh

I wanted to narrow it down just a trifle. Think I should remove it?

Second clue -- many of these would all appear to be magnificent physical specimens, dear Watson.
Posted By: chrissie

Re: Elbow-greased Send-off of Name the Game - 02/18/07 04:49 PM

Hi Benedict - I think there is more than one game - I have 'that one' waiting in the wings!

As for having a game just using quotes, I feel this would be quite restrictive, I, as I am sure everyone else does, just post clues from games I have played, very few quotes stick in my head & I often refer to a walkthrough as a reminder to inspire some clues! - they rarely include quotes!
But, Benedict, for some variety the next time you are IT you could use quotes as your clues!!!!

Hi Becky, I didn't think the clues referring to the end were a spoiler because if you haven't played the game they don't make sense & I'll never remember anyway when I get round to playing it! But it could be a spoiler for anyone currently playing!

Re: Elbow-greased Send-off of Name the Game - 03/09/07 05:34 PM

It can be a LOT of help if it's extra strength toilet paper. You could climb it! Well..... you could tie it to a plunger, throw the plunger at the wall and THEN climb it.
Anything is possible in an adventure game.

Re: Elbow-greased Send-off of Name the Game - 03/10/07 07:51 AM

When I read this description, I had a very hazy memory of an extremely annoying opening sequence in an adventure game, involving a bathroom, toilet paper and a window WAY up near the ceiling.

Then I spent the next 20 minutes trying to figure out what game the scene came from before remembering it's from "Stupid Invaders"... lol

A sleeping young flake was thundered awake
in the flash of a bolt of lightning.
He turned on the light, searched the fridge for a bite,

...and decided to go feed the cats. (THE END)

In the same time and place, (you can tell, from his face)--
brought awake by the same jolt of lightning--
he found that his place was somewhere in space,
and embarked on adventures quite frightening.

My hubby coached kid soccer for 16 seasons. My daughter now plays on and coaches 2 intramural college teams (one coed, one guys' team).

How on earth can he fit the limbs? He must have to do it by feel. Plenty of practice, obviously, given the population of the island.

Re: Elbow-greased Send-off of Name the Game - 03/28/07 12:05 AM

Mimuncu is correct -- it's the most recent one, Escape from Monkey Island. Collecting the body parts doesn't solve a puzzle -- though when you've put them all together you can scare a couple of the NPCs with them.

The clue about the limbs is a reference to the blind prosthetist in the Palace of Prosthesis.
