The Uninvited - 03/10/07 05:03 PM

I just read in another post that there is a game called The Uninvited. Can some one tell me if that is based on the very old movie of the same name? One probably has to be up in years to remember the movie (late 40's or 50's-the movie). It was always one of my favorites.

THere is a great synopsis and photos on Wikipedia but it won't let me link there because it has parenthesis in the Url. You can go there and search though.

There are a couple versions of the game available -- but, they have nothing to do with the movie.

You can find a link to each below -
Uninvited Windows 3.1

Bouv Mama!! I can't believe you mentioned that movie! One of my all time faves! I wish that that author had written more like it but even though she wrote other things they were more political (i think..from what info i have seen). I sent off a year or so ago for a VHS of it and need to xfer it to cd so it doesn't get lost forever. Great movie....wonderful suspensefull atmospere...spooky!...hmmm....would make good game material!!! That and Hell House (with Roddy MacDowell)! i love the older black/white suspense, mystery and creepy movies and also i have gotten into old time radio programs as well, Fibber McGee and Molly, Suspense, I love a mystery, all the old mystery, suspense and horror programs. They are really something. Most of the time lots better than what's on the Tube!

Game Nut and Inferno, I'm so glad someone else remembers that movie. My skin creeps just thinking about it. It would make a wonderful game with the two ghosts. Are not spooks that you cannot see much scarier than those which you can? Maybe some designer out there will get an idea.

This story took place on the cliffs of Cornwall.

:inferno flys upstairs to the roof of her apartment building with her magical paisley carpet bag ---she flips the ancient gold clasp to the right once and then to the left twice --- opens the carpet bag and rumages around inside --- "Oooooooooopps!" she cries, as she falls in with only her legs dangling precariously outside. She reaches deep inside and finally finds what she is looking for ---- her special brass megaphone!

inferno (after a tumultuous struggle) --- manages to find her way out of the bag along with her treasure. She stands at the highest point of the rooftop and speaks clearly into the instrument:

"Ohhhhhhhhhh Johnathan!!!!! Where are you????"

and than promptly falls off the roof. blush :

I still haven't seen The Uninvited. Boo hoo. It's ironic, really, given that I included the film on the Horror in Cornwall page. From all accounts it sounds like a brilliant ghost story, and right up my street (literally).

Inferno, where do you get your gadgets?! I have a sneaking suspicion that you browse the Portobello Road, now and then, like a certain Miss. Price.

Jonathan

P.s. I'll also second GameNut's mention of The Legend of Hell House. I saw it, for the first time, a couple of months ago. It's a genuinely frightening ghost story, with some brilliant scenes. Ectoplasm! Possession! Flying dinner! It's a must-see for ghost story aficionados.

Yes --- you've found me out --- Portobello Road -
is my favorite place to shop --- Stall 13 1/2
run by a little old gray haired lady named
Mrs. Everwitch.

... and Becks --- My carpet bag is bottomless from within --- which is why I fall into it occasionally and have such a hard time getting out!

PS Alkis --- your new game looks lovely!

I think it is very interesting, that to me, many of the older movies have more feelings of erie-ness, suspense or dread or terror than the new ones. Seems as though they had ATMOSPHERE! Did not have to rely on 'splatter'. Maybe that was due to better writing?

Hmm, you've got me thinking, gamenut, that maybe today's games have to compete with today's news for attention and certainly there is more than enough "splatter" in the news what with suicide bombing and school shootings!

There have been many of the newer movies that would have been just as good w/o using the Splatter Brigade. Then there are some that i think are made just for the people who like to see Gore...and torture. Just my opinion. But like Rebecca and The Uninvited...how superb is the atmosphere in those two movies!! 'Ya know something is going on...there's creepiness, there's mystery, the suspense, the sense that there is more there than meets the eye, interesting scenery, interesting characters....you are drawn in...and just think, no one is mangled or gore flowing. Amazing. One of the reasons i enjoy the old radio programs, especially the mysteries and horror ones. It is in your mind and what scarier place is that?
