Keepsake - 03/20/07 09:03 AM

This is the best game I have ever played. Loved the hint system also. The graphics are beautiful and most of it was easy to understand. I loved all the places that you can go. Just when I thought I was almost done, I found out that I was only half way through. There are a few harder puzzles I needed help with, but what I liked is that they would give you a hint, and then you could ask for a second and a third. If you still can't get it, it will solve it for you. It is one that should be played if you can. Vicki thumbsup

I agree...I enjoyed the game. I absolutely loved the hint system. I spent quite a bit of time with the hint system, especially toward the end, though.

But....I spent a lot of time wondering what in the world my next "chore" was. The game world is so huge, it's not like you can just try going here and there and find the next puzzle. And I was getting tired of trying to do a puzzle and when I asked for a hint was told "you do not have the prerequisites to continue". I found some of the puzzles VERY difficult. It's a given that I'm directionally-challenged, so trying to find my way around, even with the maps, was an additional "puzzle" for me.
Now don't get me wrong, I would certainly recommend the game. I felt guilty using the hint system as much as I did, though. Without it, I would have spent months roaming around.
Just my opinion.

I am so glad I saw your post. I just got keepsake. I just finished Syberia 2 and installed Keepsake and was very disappointed. I didn't like the looks, the way the character spoke or walked... I thought it was awful.

Now I realize that maybe it's because I just came from Syberia 2 which is one of the most highly rated games to this one and I just need to get used to it.

Your posts give me the push I need to keep with it. Thanks.

And Mary... I am not directionally challenged but I can't finish any Adventure game without the Gameboomers walkthroughs... I'm just game challenged. laugh

VRM have you played Syberia 1 and 2?

I loved the game also. One of my favorites in 2006.

Another Keepsake fan here. The hint system was great. If you didn't know what to do next (and if you didn't have a puzzle active that you were working on) clicking on the hint system would tell you where you should go next and what you should try to accomplish there.

I know I should have felt guilty by using this when I didn't know what to do next. But, frankly, I didn't feel even a twinge of guilt. I thought that not having to run around wondering what to do next actually added to the gameplay. laugh

I just wish there was news that the talented development studio that produced Keepsake is working on another adventure game.

Wish I did Nickie... I usually have a great sense of direction but that school is just too big. I keep getting lost and find myself wandering for hours not even sure where it is I should be.

And a taking wolf? I hope it gets better.

The game was absolutely fantastic. One of the best I have ever played. The hint system was a big help.

I agree with you, and everyone above - I loved Keepsake! I liked the hint feature, too - very helpful (but I think I abused it - it was too easy to access). lol

I love to play games like this that are so beautiful, you just get transported to another world...

Hey NYLady,
Keepsake does take a bit of getting used to after playing Syberia because the graphics are a little different--I, myself, slogged through it and found it got easier to take the longer I played it. I also found that after getting used to a certain character from a game played, it becomes harder to get into the next game. I liked Paradise because it was by the same creator as Syberia and now I hope to enjoy Sacred Rings as much as I did Aura. Hope you give Keepsake another chance.

NyLady, I think you're right that it's really tough on the next game you play after one you really, really like - at least that is the way it is for me. Something you might like at another time pales in comparison. But Keepsake isn't everyone's cup of tea - no game is.You can always set it aside for another day, and perhaps the next game you try will be just the ticket. wave

Absolutely gorgeous graphics; TERRIFICALLY hard puzzles! Hooray for the wonderful hint system - I needed it! lol I enjoyed the storyline very much.

Re: Keepsake - 03/21/07 08:28 PM

My Mother and I enjoyed Keepsake very much, but it did take some getting used to-- took awhile to find the right spots to go in certain directions & yes, I found myself using that map & hint button regularly. lol

I think it not only is hard to start another game after playing one you really, really loved -- but it accentuates the matter when the next game's quirks rub up against the favorite game's strengths. Syberia 1 & 2 had fairly intuitive puzzles & navigation in most areas.

Taken on its own though, Keepsake is a pretty good game. I enjoyed the graphics & playing around in 'dragonwarts' *ahem*
