TimeLapse...

TimeLapse... - 04/07/03 08:51 PM

After playing TOS I was looking for a game on my shelf that would be similar because I wasn't ready to leave all those "mysterious" places. TimeLapse was it.
What a fun and entertaining game this turned out to be. All logical puzzles but not so easy that they were obvious. I heard a lot about the bow and arrow puzzle but I got lucky on this one. Got it in about 20 shots. The story...what a gripping story...what a great movie this would make. I guess we'll never see TimeLapse 2. Or will we?
BTW, the similarities between TimeLapse and The Omega Stone are very close.

nod - I loved it as well, although the game crashed a few times throughout different places. A few puzzles was quite obscure for me, but overall it wasn't bad... the adrenaline rush at the end put me off a bit however frown

wave I love 'Timelapse' but have never finished it...due to the dreaded slider puzzle! Just can't get past it! One day I'll tackle it again. rolleyes

Darlene,

I'm almost at the end of Timelapse now. What you
probably don't realize about the slider puzzle is
that half the time the puzzle CANNOT BE SOLVED!
That's right. Mathematically speaking, exactly
half of all random permutations of that puzzle
are unsolvable. Unfortunately, the game does not
check to see if it's solvable or not.

The only thing you can do is complete the puzzle
3/4 of the way thru, then if the last three tiles
cannot be arranged correctly, it is unsolvable.
At that point simply step back, then forward, and
start the puzzle over (the game gives you a
different arrangement of tiles).

Good luck!

Hi Darlene! laugh CCbomber is absolutely right about the Mayan slider in Timelapse. There is one permutation that cannot be solved. If you would like some help to solve the puzzle and finish the game there's an excellent detailed explanation for solving the puzzle right here! smile

Re: TimeLapse... - 04/08/03 04:30 PM

Call me crazy and I can see how there would be a dead end but if you treat this like a regular slider puzzle I don't think there would be a dead end. What I'm saying is that instead of completing each of the symbols separately and locking up that space, complete each line building two symbols at once. In doing so, the second last line will have all the correct symbols in the right slot without the last two symbols being locked. This allows the last line to be worked on freely. It can only go locked when the pieces are in the right spot and at that point the puzzle is finished.
Has anyone done it this way and still hit a dead end? Having done it this way and never experiencing the dead end I had to reason this out but I'd like to be corrected if I'm wrong.

Mordack,

I only have a moderate math background. If you
are VERY, VERY mathematically inclined go here

The 15-puzzle

http://www.cut-the-knot.com/pythagoras/fifteen.shtml

My experience with the puzzle is solving it
infinitely many times when I was a kid. However,
if I had lifted the 14 and 15 tiles from the
puzzle and swapped them I would NEVER be able to
solve it.

wave Wow! What support! Yes, I have heard that the puzzle has it's challenges about some combinations being unsolvable. As wonderful as this game is, you'd think this glitch would have been rectified. I will have to go back and give it another go. The game's worth it!

That's the bottom line, Darlene. Timelapse consistently appears on the TOP TEN list of adventure games. Your biggest challenge of the game still awaits you! smile

Ewwwwwww, that's a real goodie! One of my all-time favorite puzzles! That wasn't the one I had in mind, though. It's the challenge that lurks in Atlantis. bwahahahahahaha

Hi Everybody,
Here is the address for the official website for this game. The original publisher of this game went bust, and now the developers are maintaining it. It is an interesting site because it tells all about the developement of the game and there is lots of information.
I have played this game so much that my folder is about to fall apart! I have an old, old WT for this game from 1996. That is the one I still use.
The site that I got it from is no longer live.

Thanks CCbomber for that great website...I now understand what error is being experienced and it's not just that people are locking themselves out of moves. I will remember this game for a long while to come and will certainly be in my top 10 games. The puzzle that had me for awhile was the skeleton one and at the same time I smiled all the way through it. I love these's games where all the clues are right in front of your nose and 10 times you stare at a clue but on the eleventh time you see it. Myst and Rhem were very good for this.

When I played the game I had first to go back and sketch out what each of the four pics looked like. With that knowledge, solving it became a lot easier. I then worked from the bottom upward. I did "fix" the two bottom ones, but I did the top two together as you did, Mordack, and had no trouble. I had saved just before it, as I usually do whenever an interesting puzzle crops up, and could therefore do it again. As I remember the missing piece was not the same each time, though I might be wrong since I played it back in the fall of 1998 and my notes are tucked away (and I'm too lazy to go look for them). However, I remember redoing it at least four times and not being stymied any of the times. However, if they change it randomly and if "parity" is involved, then it is not beyond the realm of probability (one chance in sixteen)that I came up with the "proper" parity each time. laugh
