Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers!

Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/06/03 04:01 PM

Dear Friends,

"...........we need to find a title for our new and rather intriguing project. So we have already invented a number of various names, but it is rather difficult to choose the one most suitable for it.
Please find below the brief story of the game and the list of titles we managed to think out. You may choose one of ours or suggest yours - we will appreciate all your ideas!
Thank you very much for your attention.

Story:

Calm and quiet life of a provincial town was broken by a mysterious epidemic desease. Local authorities send to the town several people to stop this process: a doctor, an inquisitor and an army commander.
Along with this disaster there in the town three political groups are struggling for power.
To survive in this town a character should choose one of the three ways out: he/she should either find an effective remedy, kill everyone infected or help one of the political fractions to come to power. And no other escape.
Conceivably this strange desease was a kind of punishment from above for the desobedience to the Gods. The main building in the game is a Polyhedron, made by a number of enthusiasts and which had a mysterious power and abilities.
The figure 2 has a sacred sense in the game: three fractions, three centers in the town, three ways to survive and etc.

Generally the idea of the game has a strong phylosophical background and the development team strives to make an absolutely absorbing gameplay.

Well, the list of our variants:

Panacea
Pestilence
Desperate Hope
Soilsore
Dream Defeated
Deliverance
City of the Damned
Crisis
Forbidden Miracle
Decay

....looking forward to receive your reply as soon as possible!
Cheers! "

-----------------------------------------------

I'm sure you dedicated Boomers can help out with no problem at all! I'm not sure what genre this game is yet, but I'm not sure it matters that much when directing attention toward selecting a title! laugh

Have at it, gang! bravo

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/06/03 04:10 PM

I like the title Deliverance.

It is a strong word. I always think one word titles are the easiest to recall for buyers and also to market. ALso it doesn't imply what choice is better in the game - but has a positive aura to it. You are victorious if you can deliver. It also would work well whether the game is a RPG, Strategy, Action, Adventure or hybrid game.

After reading your synopsis of the game; none of those title seemed to connect for me ... I guess because the first word that popped into my head was Triad

.......but then, that's just me, sorry. rolleyes
Inferno

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/06/03 04:50 PM

Not too shabby, inferno!

I don't think there's any rule against suggesting a new titlefrom what I'm reading above....even if they'd primarily like for us to select from the list.

Love, Witchen =O) smile I like "Triad"

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/06/03 04:53 PM

City of the Damned sort of says it all for me.

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/06/03 05:03 PM

Hi.

Choosing from the list, I too would go for "Deliverance" as the most evocative <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="cool.gif" />

Cheers.

I'm with Scout.......City of the Damned sounds like a winner. Or maybe something with "Pathogens" in the title......i love infectious diseases...this game sounds very interesting!!!

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/06/03 05:22 PM

Ooh.. I would go with Pestilence smile

I would NOT go with Soilsore.. HAHA.. sounds like a skin disease i DONT want to catch.. smile

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/06/03 06:15 PM

I think going by the list i would have to vote for "Fobidden Miracle" although reading the brief story it's hard to get a good idea of exactly what the game is about. I can however tell you why i dont like the other titles...

1. Panacea...first i cant pronounce it and if you name a game like this there are always debates on how you pronounce it, second it sounds like something you would put on Tacos.

2. Pestilence...This sounds like something that my wife would say i either have or dont depending on if it is good or bad.

3. Desperate Hope...This sounds like an ER episode.

4. Soilsore...yeah like someone else said this just makes me think of oozing open wounds.

5. Dream Defeated...this one just sounds goofy

6. Deliverance...This one just makes me think of canoes. Toothless guys, and Banjos.

7. City of the Damned...This makes me think of that movie with the Superman guy and the wierd kids.

8. Crisis....This is just to general and the word is to vauge. what kind of Crisis is it, to my Wife this could mean that it was a game about me not picking my towel up off the bathroom floor.

9. Decay...Yeah that would sell a lot of copies. A game about rotting things.

Of course these are just my opinions, feel free to laugh at me, send me hate mail, of hire me as the next "Game title maker guy"

Thanks for the input, gang, and let's keep it going. How about a subtitle?......, like
Trinity: Zero Hour in a Small Town
Trinity: Outbreak in a Small Town

Love, Witchen smile

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/06/03 06:55 PM

Do we know the name of the town? or do you want it to remaine annonymous?

Trinity: Plague in small Town X

Or if it the town has a cool name.

Trinity: plague in Moonlight Cove, or whatever the cool name of the town is.

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/06/03 07:00 PM

Sounds like an interesting concept for a game!

My dictionary defines Plague as A widespread affliction or calamity, especially one seen as divine retribution. This sounds like what you're game is about, so how about just "Plague" or "Plague of the Dammed"

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/06/03 07:02 PM

""""Conceivably this strange desease was a kind of punishment from above for the desobedience to the Gods"""

I would pick "City of the Damned" from this description even though it does conjure up thoughts of blank-eyed children taking over a town (the younger crowd probably won't remember the moview anyway). I also like "Deliverance" but I would add a subtitle to it, like: Deliverance: Triad and Epidemic (or whatever).

Good, good, good input! smile

Retribution is a telling word too, Louis!

Retribution: Curse of the Gods?

This is kinda fun, huh? LOL:)

Well I couldn't think for a minute - Still laughing at Quisitor's post lol

OK - I have to admit, banjo playing, slack jawed mutants did cross my mind with the deliverance title. laugh

I like Redemption, here's another that that title brought to mind. Judgement Day.

This certainly is a fun thread. Though maybe someone should have warned Buka Ent. what they might get when they asked for input from this group. laugh

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/06/03 09:05 PM

It's too bad that it's such an unmarketable word, because "Trilemma" means "choice between 3 unwelcome things".

I've worked the three angle over repeatedly in my head, and now I'm stuck with Triumph over Trials and Tribulations. Yes, tri as I might, the dumbness in my brain is starting to win out. rolleyes

OK, for real, how about "Countdown from Quarantine"?

As for the proposed names, what's with "Deliverance"?! eek eek If killing everyone is Buka's idea of deliverance, remind me not to invite them to visit me in the hospital.

Personally, I LIKE "Soilsore". YES, it sounds like diaper rash, but they could change the description to "an epiDERMic disease" and really run with this puppy. thumbsup

.... Am I demonstrating why no developers have yet employed me? whistle

City of the Damned is good.....But I think it needs a prefix....maybe Trilemma: City of the Damned, huh Singer? LOL lol lol lol

Also, FYI Raven Software has a game out called Heretic: City of the Damned.

Survival is an excellent idea too. There's already one out though. Its an older combat/strategy game by Activision for Win95/98.

Survival would work with a subtitle though, doncha' think? laugh

Thinking along the Tri line like Singer, how about Trillium something. There's a book called "Black Trillium," but maybe something like Trillium Lost or Trillium Passing or lol

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/07/03 12:01 AM

The very first word that came up into my mind, even before I read your titles was: Pestilation. I read the boek la Peste from Albert Camus and it learned me how people can change when they are in fear for such an illness.Simply people became heroes and intelligent and respected men became cowards. Not speaking about them who were doing what had to be done, without asking themselves what could be their own risks. It was such a captivating story, that showed the deepest feeling of men. Feelings that you never would have known, if not in that special situation.

IMHO, City of the Damned sounds like a zombie shoot-'em-up (plus it's been done, sort of).

I'm a Pestilence man myself.
Posted By: Betty Lou

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/07/03 02:02 AM

PESTILENCE = 1. a deadly epidemic disease. 2. That which produces or tends to produce epidemic disease. 3. the bubonic plague
So, how about Pestilence from the Gods or something like that?
City of the Damned would be my 2nd choice.
I like Witchen's first 2 suggestions too.
You guys are so funnnnnnnny! You just keep me

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/07/03 03:30 AM

No offense to anyone, but i would not want to purchase a game where i had to look the title up in a dictionary. Sometimes it's easy to forget how "brainwashed" the general public is.
Posted By: Singer

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/07/03 04:01 AM

That's a good point, quistor, but I think Stephen King already has the copyright on "It". Besides, not ALL of us are brainwashed (must... Buy... All... Adventure... Games... whistle And what if someone is offended by the word "[blip]"?

Maybe it should be Village of the Darned laugh laugh

I like "Retribution" (good one, Witchen!) or maybe "Pandemic".

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/07/03 04:14 PM

Witchen, can you ask them for another list?

It's beginning to appear that a list of titles they have already considered and rejected would be more useful.

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/07/03 05:16 PM

LOL lol lol lol

I'm not sure that Buka will understand all this cryptic humor, guys, but I am sure they will much appreciate the marvelous creative input and wonderful title ideas.

As for a list of "titles they've already considered," I'm sure a certain number of repeats is to be expected and Buka can readily recognize any new and brilliant ones from the list Gameboomers' provides and compare them with their own files. However, they are reading this thread, so perhaps they'll consider sharing a list a good idea.

Best wishes, Witchen =O)

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/07/03 06:45 PM

I would be happy to smile From what i hear it is a game where you get "Air Pulse cannon Laser artilery riffles" and you chase each other around an "Arena" trying to kill each other the fastest. most of the time there are 4 million other players trying to do the same thing. They are Dubbed "FPS's" which i believe stands for (Forget) about any originality (People) will buy these games over and over and we will be (Stinking) rich. I could of course be wrong though wink my wife tells me I am all the time.

TRILLIUM: The Retribution

(I like the name Trillium, whoever came up with that!)

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/07/03 07:00 PM

Outbreak: Kill or Cure

(BTW - Girlgeek - Trillium was the heroine from the Hitchhiker's Guide - I have fond memories of her that need not be spoiled, thank you).

Outbreak: City of the Damned

Outbreak: City of the Damned Politicians

Outbreak: City of the Damned Politicians Who Think They Know What Is Best for Us and Never Let Us Take Care of Ourselves!!

Outbreak: City of the . . . (sorry, just ran out of breathe)

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/07/03 11:05 PM

Reading a little of the story it has something to do with what the Gods have done to this small town. So, A title with God. Maybe like:

CURSE OF THE GODS and since the town is infected by a disease, how about, OUTBREAK. I think there was a movie called Outbreak, about small town that was infected with a desease starting Steven Segal. OR A TOWN'S DESTINY, DESTINY OF A TOWN, OR THE FAITH OF A TOWN.

Boomers have listed quite good ones so far it is going to get hard to choose from. Oh wait I thought of another one ABUSIVE POWER... OR EPICDEMIC.

Also, I just had to mention that the trillium is Ontario's provincial flower. laugh ... Yes, there's no end to the perfectly useless trivia you can pick up here at GameBoomers. wink

Re: Buka Entertainment needs you, Boomers! - 02/11/03 09:36 PM

I like Scourge. It makes me think of the flagellants in the Middle Ages who thought they could end the Plague by scourging themselves.

Who is the typical buyer of this game? There are people who are attracted to stark frightening names with a hint of violence. On the other hand, there are (timid, snobbish, squeamish?) people who would be put off by such a name. I would probably not buy a game called "Pestilence" for instance because it sounds uncomfortable, if not downright horrific. Maybe a more middle-of-the-road title (say, "Retribution") -- less putrid-sounding, evoking an emotion everyone understands.

On the other hand, I think some talented Boomer should definitely develop a game named "Beyond the Plague of Atlantis II: Return to the City of the Damned" strictly for whimsical reasons.
