Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 02/26/03 03:16 AM

My "Save" option is gone (or kerflunked as my husband says). I'm at level 13 playing as the female thief. Got to the point where the chick is abducted by Jake and when I went into the grave/pits, the save option could not be highlighted. Tried saving there, going back above ground- nada, zip, nuttin. It had a glitch in it earlier in the game in that my mana bar was black instead of blue, making it look like I had no mana. (I think I need to stop saving over saves.) blush

You can't save while you're in the episode with Jake. Hopefully the ability to save will come back once you're out of the area.By the way, did you install the hotfix for the game (don't know if the patch is posted yet or not).

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 02/26/03 07:27 AM

I had this happen when I was going to Verdistis and I didn't notice so I ended up save over my back up save as well. What I noticed later is when I went to Verdistis for the first time I could see everthing and there was no black I ran around for about a half hour and had save over both files for that particular game and I lost it all. So if you go to a new place and there is no black and you can see everything check to see if you can save if you can't restart your game. I hope this helps others from the frustration I felt.

Hi, Audrey, glad your enjoying this wonderful game.

There's a couple of instances when something is going on that you can't save ... there aren't many. What I did was to back out of the area, when possible, save and then go back in. It worked most of the time. Only in a situation where it is too far to go back that you may run into a problem.

Btw, the 2nd time around, I rescued the lady first. When I went back to the graveyard in Aelroth he wouldn't show up, not even in the cellar of his house. Possibly a glitch, because you don't kill him in the kidnapping sequence, he just runs away. He's apparently still around but is probably pouting somewhere because I snatched his lady from him.

Thanks, Nickie!

I'm too lazy to check any WTs (not that you can exactly write a walk-through for this game...) So if anyone can tell me how to use all the round charm thingies to charm something which should be charmable...maybe I'm not charming enough!!!

I am playing as the female thief on account of I like to hit some things now and then. lol

LIKE MY COMPUTER!!!

Ahem.

So any help would be appreciated!

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/03/03 05:07 AM

Hi Marion:

You have to have the "enchant weapon" spell. If you look at the spells it will tell you how many charms you can place depending on what level spell you have and what level charms your weapons will take. There are small, medium and large charms.

Different weapons will have different numbers of charms you can put on them. Some won't have any. While in your armour screen (whatever the screen is called that when you click on it, it shows what armour and weapons you are using), either right or left click on the weapon you want to place the charm on. The round slots will pop up depending on how many each weapon will take. Then you just drag the charm you want onto the slot. If a weapon will take 3 charms, and you only have the level to use one, one circle will be open and the others closed.

I hope this makes sense. It's kind of confusing until you do it a few times.

Awww Marion, I'm sure you're plenty charming! lol Just wanted to point out two things while you're traversing the countryside. At some point you'll probably come across a wagon that needs a wheel. You might want to speak up after you get into that quest, as you can break it if you do some things in the wrong order. And also, there's a neat wishing well out there that is a good thing - I would have missed it without Jean pointing it out.

Marion, so you went back and told the trader that the cart had been attacked? That was the part I wanted to make sure you did first, before you went looking for whomever was responsible for the massacre. Be sure and save before you find them. I don't know how tough you are right now, and I had to replay it a few times. But I was a fairly wimpy wizard. And yes, you can level up really fast by spending time in the sewers!

Nickie-

I am the chick thief and am at level 23. My biggest problem is finding decent weapons to buy and/or repair.

This game is very much like BAAGing. You get one quest finished, and then three more pop up. I've got so much to do, I'm afraid to talk to anyone new, in case they give me another quest. lol

This is probably the best RPG I've ever played. I like the fact that it is so huge and that you don't have to progress in a certain way. You can do it MY WAY!

I'm SO glad you're enjoying it. Yep, you can breeze through it with only doing the main quests, but what fun you would miss by doing it that way. I found several really good swords at the shop of -oh heck, what do you call the guy that repairs and makes them for a living, that's in the marketplace? But the best two I stumbled across.

I just got another quest to save the kid's parents. Jeez, these people don't ask much, do they? And then, on top of it all, I will have to find the kid at the Archer's Guild or whatever and he'll probably tell me that if I had been in time, I wouldn't be responsible for his parents' death.

I had to ask for help in using charms, too. I wish they had some of the basics in this game in the manual. I still haven't figured out how to make a bed from straw which I understand is an option.

I used skeleton wall and the knight too, especially helpful when you enter the church buildings, where bad guys are attacking you from all sides. It hasn't been on this thread, but try and put off doing the church until you are in fairly good shape level wise. The really neat thing about using those spells, also the rats, is that the bad guys have to deal with them first (if they're in front of you, that is - my guys used to be whistling in the corners or something, and I would have to go round them up).

I have gotten into Stormfist Castle and done all the piddly stuff for Janus, lost my pyramids, talked to the cat, and found a hatch to a rather small underground area. I can't get into the cellars underneath the castle, I can't find any other entrances besides the guarded one, and I can't even figure out how to WASH THE DISHES!! lol <-------- That is hysteria kicking in. Oh, and I am level 25 thief....I think.

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/09/03 09:19 AM

That is one quest I didn't complete! But theoretically, you have to put water in a tub, and drag all the dishes into it - they should then go into your inventory as clean, and you present them to the cook. I think even pots that look clean, you have to wash.
Be sure and take anything you want now from the castle, as you can't get back in soon (except with a cheat). Don't worry about not being able to get into any of the guarded places - you can't at this point. Once you're finished questing, you'll probably run into the folks in charge, and that will set the story in motion once again.

Yes you get your teleporter stones. Once you have them you can go to stormfist castle and drag one stone out of you inventory and fling it just inside the castle walls by the gate. Once inside go to the armory and get the Dragon Sheild. Go back to the gate pick up your stone and just walk out no one will bother you. wink

If I keep making faces like this, it'll stick that way. I cannot figure out how to defeat the succubus. I am currently level 27 (a pitiful admission). It seems I am stuck here unless I defeat her.

Posted By: Niku'a

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/10/03 05:24 AM

Killing the succubus:

I don't know what type of character you're playing, but Freeze can do wonders. If you have a few or even one point in setting traps, then you're best to use some scorpion traps. Try to get rid of most of the ghosts and mummys before attacking the succubus. So you can almost run freely around. Or if you know her resistances, use that to your own advantage. Or try leveling up a bit. I killed her as last when going through the game. I was around level 39 - 40 then.
Posted By: nickie

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/10/03 09:29 AM

I used pretty much the same strategy with everything that was a lot stronger than me - took a black potion to be invisible, got close to the big baddie, and then walloped them with spells, often conjuring the skeletons or knight as a distraction. Playing as a thief, the scorpion traps work well, and playing as a fighter, the fighter's special move seems to do the work. Blind also seems to work well on just about everything. If you have a sword with frost on it, you have it made, but the freeze spell itself sometimes doesn't work against more difficult enemies. Are you able to leave and come back when you are a higher level?

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/10/03 02:56 PM

Nickie & Singer

I've killed all the mummies and ghosts. And I can't seem to leave. Everytime I fight her she makes a knight and they both end up killing me.

I suppose I'll have to go to a saved game and lose the three hours I spent getting there

Bummer!

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/10/03 06:27 PM

Marion, before you do that, exactly where are you? Do you happen to have the spell that makes the knights go back to where they came from? I think it's called Banish, but I could be wrong on that. And are you able to summon your own knight?
I know it's aggravating if you have to lose a lot of playing time - had to do that once myself in the Wastelands (towards the end). If you have the game set on hard, can you move it to easy? That's something I can't remember, but I think you can change the difficulty level during play.

thumbsup That's GREAT, Marion!!! Doesn't it feel wonderful? You are at a really low level to be where you are, if that is any consolation. Do you still have a lot of quests to do, or are you itching to get to the main quest? Just a recommendation - found it useful to keep a few spare points from leveling up, without immediately getting a new skill or spell. That way when something came up that needed something different from what I had, I could get it, depending on exactly what I needed at the time. So, what's next?

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/10/03 11:48 PM

I've been following this strand. I've only tried RPG once, I think Thief2 or something like that.
I didn't think I could get the hang of it, but reading this has my fingers kinda itching to try and my mind quizzing "Wonder if..?? could I possible enjoy a RPG?" Do all of you always play only RPG? Is it something an adventure game lover could enjoy?
Posted By: audrey522

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/11/03 12:10 AM

Popcorneater, it's a ton of fun! Thrashing monsters has never been this good. bravo I'm 48 years old and haven't got much in the way of hand/eye coordination so games where I have to move or shoot quickly don't work for me. But this game is definitely addicting. I am also a big Final Fantasy fan. But it all depends on the game. For example, some RPGs are just level up level up level up with the assorted mini-monsters, then go tackle the semi-main monster. And at the end, you get a main monster and then you're done. Divine Divinity (the name really stinks ) is not like that. And let me say it again, after a long day of work, there is some sort of relief in hitting something with swords and magic.

Stay tuned to my saga, you can bet this won't be the last time I'll post and whine!

Ingie,

You have 6 choices of what type of charactor you want to be. 3 are women, 3 are men. Choices are wizard, warrior, or thief. I chose female thief. Also you can choose easy or hard. It takes quite a bit of brainwork to figure out how you want to progress.

It's kind of hard to explain the appeal of the RPG game genre. It's kind of a love/hate relationship in the way that adventure games have.

Many games do a good job of easing you in, and RPG's usually have excellent manuals that explain things in detail. But don't forget about the most valuable resource - US!!! We'll all be more than happy to help you through the rough parts of your first RPG. laugh

Just more funnies I came accross in the game.....

In verdistis I've noticed a few citizens who just wander around for a bit and then magically produce a chair out of thin air, sit down, have a drink, redisappear (my own word) the chair and then carry on about their business lol

And in the sewers underneath I was busy cleaning out a pesky monster infestation and there are all these members of the thieves guild wandering around, and there's piles of gold just lying on the ground and they didn't even notice....I mean, just what are they teaching them in thieves school these days

Kim, make sure you do all the quests you want to do before you bang that gong in the council chambers, because NO, you can't go back! And there is still quite a bit of ground to cover once you're in the Wastelands, but yeah, that's the last part of the game. That Shrimpo quest is one of the funniest! I laughed myself silly over it.
And TC, but just fight one of the thieves, and they quickly decide you shouldn't share their money!!! And there are so many little touches in the game like that with the chairs - And I didn't notice that! - but there are little things that come up with the characters to give everyone a personality of sorts.

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/11/03 10:54 PM

Marion, you don't get your teleporters back from the castle - you'll find them near the council of seven when you do that part, where the bad imp went that took them. So, once you get into that part, you can get your teleporters before you bang the gong, if you want to have them to finish other quests first.
And Kim, let me know if you need a hint about the Shrimpo quest.

Norma, the best thing would probably be to go a level up, unless you are ready to complete the game (banging the gong). You don't need to give the highest amount of money either, but I've forgotten the choices.

Marion, if you still have quests you want to do and/or you didn't get your teleporters back before you did that, you might want to reload, since you can't go back. You'll note that the ceremony raised you in level - what did it raise you to?

Thank you Audrey and Nickie, I will wait and level up when I get back to the wishing well. I have to find the elf and dwarf for the council and then I will have all of them. I found the elf, but have to retrieve some items for him. How is the best way to get the grail? When I take it I get surrounded by guardians. I try freezing them but there are so many.
Posted By: nickie

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/12/03 05:25 PM

Norma, if you are that far in the game, don't do the level up at the wishing well, instead opt for an increase in a statistic, like Marion said. As soon as you go through the ceremony after getting all the council in place and banging the gong, the game raises you in level (several, not sure if it is always four levels or if you go to 42 automatically).
And can you give more information about where you are? Were you saying that you are trying to get the grail to complete a different quest, not the holy relics but the cup?
Kim, where you got the quest from the salesman to find Shrimpo, had you just been in the graveyard immediately behind you? If not, you'll have to wait on that quest. If you have, you need to go back in the graveyard and start reading tombstones. And remember to save. Let me know if you need another hint.

The grail cup that I tried to steal was in a cave near the dwarve mines. I had to kill some monster and there were piles of gold around a doorway. Is that the holy grail that I need to steal?

Oh ... ale purse ... should have known that ... I take my ale purse with me whenever I go out for a night on the town.

What and where is this wishing well?

Thanks for the Shrimpo hint Nickie ... found him, killed him, and listened to Apollo's long story :-)

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/13/03 12:38 AM

The Holy grail is for a quest that an alchemist in the elven forest asks for, to heal the animals. Then there's a quest to get the three relics that have been stolen from the elfs too. The relics you'll need for the main quest, and the holy grail is just another quest that you can do, or not. It sounds like you were doing the first one, right? Where you walk past a lot of guardians that don't bother you, until you try to take the cup? And you also have to find three holy relics for yourself. It all gets kind of confusing.
You need to read the tombstones in the graveyard on the Shrimpo quest - not all of them can be read, just a few, and you might want to circle around the northeast corner. If you need more help at that point, just yell.

Thanks, Nickie. smile
I got side tracked again and in the Verdistis sewers. I made a mistake by killing the thieves and now replaying it. Lost my reputation frown
Oh well.. seemed like a good thing at the time.
I won't get that holy grail because I know I can't do it.
Where do you get the 3 relics? I got some cyclops eye and gave it to the elf. Now have to get something else.

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/13/03 01:08 AM

lol Not a good idea to get them mad; especially since you need their cooperation for one of the relics (not the elf relics, but the relics you personally need).
Are you talking about the relics for the elfs? Go out the south gate of the village, and keep south on the path - you should see some Orcs, and you need to follow them. Or, do you mean the three items you've been told you need for the divine one?

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/13/03 01:30 AM

That elf guy told me to get some relics for him. Those are the relics that I need. I got one but when I tried to get the other one I got killed right away. I don't remember what they were, but I think they were using those spikes. Do you remember where the relics are for the Elf? He won't join the council unless I bring them to him.
South gate of the village? Which village is that?
I get confused as to where I have been in this game. laugh
Thanks for your help. smile

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/13/03 02:05 AM

How do you get to the River of Gold in the Dwarven Halls? Many of the Dwarves and the Dwarf King has mentioned that I should go there, but I don't know where it is.

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/13/03 02:12 AM

Hi Norma:

Once while I was playing the game one of the villagers showed up as a red x, so my character automatically attacked and killed him. After that I got attacked by quite a few villagers and elves!! I finally realized what happened and went back and replayed that area again. This time the villager didn't show up as a red x, so I didn't kill him, and didn't become everyone's enemy. smile

The River of Gold just get talked about in the game, you never see it. Some of the dwarves will tell you it's just a superstition.

Thanks Jean, I looked all over for that river. lol Now I won't have to look anymore.
The thieves showed up as a green x but the conversation came up where I thought I should kill them. I learned later that it was not a good idea because when I got out of the sewer people were mad at me and my reputation was only a 9. They didn't attack but they didn't like me.
Did you finish the game? I think there are too many quests. laugh

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/13/03 05:41 AM

Sorry Norma, the south gate of the elven village. You should see some Orcs - if you don't for some reason, do you know where the teleporter is down by the funeral pyres? Go south of that, and go west - you'll run into an Orc camp, and to the north of the camp there is a cave, but it's a little hard to see. There are (of course!) things to fight in the cave. Once you've cleaned that out, look for a tile that lights up to step on. And there is one tough fight.

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/13/03 05:44 AM

Hi Norma:

Nickie and I both played it at the same time, and it took me a good 2 or 3 months. I'm a pretty slow game player due to the fact that I'm nosy and have to look at everything. lol

There are a lot of quests, but that's where all your leveling up will be done, so grin and bear it. lol

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/13/03 11:53 AM

Maybe some clearing up:

The cyclops eye is not a relic for the elves.
The relics for the elves are all located at the same area. Go south of the elven village and follow the orcs/dwarves in to their camp. Get ready for a big and hard fight.
At the wishing well, either choose the level up or the stat increase.
When entering the Wastelands, you always gain 5 levels.

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/13/03 01:03 PM

You're right, Niku'a. I remember now that the cyclops eye was one of the items I had to get to join the Warrior's Guild.

Thank you Nickie, Jean, and Niku'a for clearing up a few things. I remember now that I was trying to join the Warrior's Guild about the same time as getting some relics for the Elves. I had a hard time getting the 2nd object for the Warrior's Guild and couldn't do it. I have been to the Orc area and can't find relics there. I will search again tonight.

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/13/03 04:24 PM

Norma, that cave is kind of hard to spot, but if you go through the orc camp to the canyon wall and walk around, you should see it. If you can't, I'll reload the game and give you better directions, but I think it was northwest in that little area. Niku'a was right about the relics for the elves - and there's three in the same place. But Niku'a, are you sure about the five levels up? I'm pretty sure I just raised up four.

Hi Norma,

I got the Holy Grail cup by grabbing it and then running as fast as I could - I knew I could never defeat all of those guardians. And I made it and they didn't follow me ... might want to try that if you want to do that quest.

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/14/03 05:15 AM

For tough battles I used elemental hail and life leech the most frequently, which is probably what I used in the caves there.

Don't waste a whole lot of time trying to pick up the gold in the room outside of where the chalice is. I found that even though I picked it all up, when I got outside it was only a few pieces.

What is the purple potion for? It comes in a pretty flask. I also have some strange spice potion. I have so much money and stored tons of weapons and armor. Is there any place I can go to buy some really good armor or weapon?
I loved the rain around that talking tree. Are there any other weather changes in this game? Some snow would be nice. smile

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/14/03 04:46 PM

Hi Norma:

That rain was beautiful, wasn't it? Their aren't any other weather changes, unfortunately.

I think the best armor I bought was in the village. The Warrior's Guild didn't have anything good (at least for me, by the time I got there). The smith in Dwarven Halls actually has some quite good armor, also. I didn't buy from him since I was a mage and didn't want heavy stuff, but maybe he has things you can use.

Nickie and Niku'a, I'm pretty sure I went up 5 levels also when I got to the Wastelands. I'll do a search later today on my last thread for when I finished it because I know I mentioned it there.

Hi Jean,

I will try to go shopping after I get out of the bad lands and the elf area. smile

I am stuck in a cave where there is a floor tile. I followed the path down from the elf camp and found some errant dwarfs who are trying to start a fight with the elfs. I went into a cave and there was a floor tile that I took down to another level where some woman said she was starting a fight with the Elves. I got attacked bye a bunch of dwarfs and someother creature and got killed almost immediately. I think this is where i find the relics for the Elf so he will join the council of 7. How can I get passed this part?

Thank you smile

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/14/03 05:58 PM

Norma, that is the tough fight I was talking about. When you first go into the lower area, if you stand on the one side of the ladder, where you can't see the woman, do the dwarves come to your side of the room and attack you? If they do, then you can pick them off without having to face the sorceress at the same time. If they don't, do you have the skeleton wall spell or the death knight guy spell, that you can use- throwing it out there and running back, so they are lured over to you? The woman is a real toughie, and I had to reload so many times I lost count. The way I finally beat her was to take a black potion so that I was invisible, get right next to her, and hit her with my hail spell over and over, and also summon my own knight. I was playing as a wizard though. I also dropped a teleporter on the other side of the room next to the ladder, so I could run for it, and come back when weak. If you have a sword with frost on it, that works well, and if you are a warrior, your special move works well, but the freeze spell itself seems to have no effect on her. Although I didn't use it, I have since read that the blind spell works very well against her. Just remember that this is a very tough battle, and it may take you a while to finish it, so don't get discouraged. Hope this helps. If not, yell again, and we'll see what we can come up with.

Ingie -

I have re-started the game because I did some dumb things early on (like lose most of my reputation/respect score because I killed thieves) so I'm playing a little more cautiously now and saving more often. There were a few other things that I decided to change so, what the hey, I started it over. And I'm having a ball since I know a littler more about what I'm doing (like picking out better skills).

I have a question that I haven't been able to figure out. Once you use a charm on something, can you take back the charm to use on something else?

Thanks for the help, Nickie. I think I have one black potion. Does the blind spell work well with the little dwarfs also?
Have another question. I have two of the 3 things to make the enchanted weapon. I went into that cave along time ago and touched the 4 graves there. Does that ruin this quest?
Another question smile
A large section below the elf camp is dark on my map and I am not able to get into that part. It is between the wastelands and that lake. It is little plots of land, but no way to get up in the center of it. Were you able to get there?

Thank you smile

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/15/03 12:47 AM

One more question...
Should I level up on constitution also as much as strength, intelligence and agility? Should they be equal in points?

Thanks again! smile

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/15/03 08:59 AM

Hi Norma, let me see if I can help on some of those. I've heard that a high level blind spell works well on most everything. I used the disc spell against the hard people, but only found it effective at the highest level, and then it really cleared everybody out! (I didn't find out how well blind worked until I was almost finished). The bad dwarfs are very resistant to elemental spells, so I ended up using my sword on them a lot.
There is a large section on that map that you can't get into.
As far as leveling up, it really depends on your character and some on how you prefer to play. I don't think you told me what character you were playing. For instance, strength would be important to a fighter, intelligence to a wizard, and agility to a thief. But if you want to wear a lot of good armor and carry a good weapon, regardless of which you are, you would need the strength up. I had a lot higher intelligence and strength than I did the other two, but that was just a personal preference for playing as a wizard, but I wanted to be able to carry a good sword for when I ran out of mana. A fighter or a thief would probably want to get that constitution up high. Perhaps some other people will have different thoughts on that.
Are you saying that you went into the cave where you have to do the ceremony for the divine items? Did anything happen when you touched the tombs? I was just wondering because you said graves. I know if you open them, you've busted that quest, but I don't know about touching them, if nothing happened. If you did bust the quest, it really isn't a huge problem though, but it would be good for you to find a weapon that has frost on it. Makes life much easier!

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/15/03 09:11 AM

Marion, no, once you use a charm, it's stuck there forever. There are some much better quality charms available in the Wastelands after your divine ceremony, so you might want to leave a little room.
And Ingie, that's great you got it, and know that all you have to do is ask for help. One thing you might want to do, once you're a little familiar with the game, is look at the Larian forum board, which gives some great advice about stuff not to do. I think the link is at the beginning of this thread. Just have fun with it, and if you come across something that seems too hard, leave it and come back another time to it. Remember not to save over your saves, if you can help it, and save often!

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/15/03 03:18 PM

Hi Nickie,

I am a level 36 Mage now. I have 96 pts. in Strength, 70+ in intelligence and agility, and 40 in constitution. I can level up now in pts, and have about 4 or 5 levels in skills that I can add, but have been saving them. I just finished getting the other treasure map in the Dwarven Halls. Went down in the jail and fought with the Black Ring guy. He got away, but will probably see him later. I have 2 skills pts. in Blind now and can level up to 5 if you think that would be good. I have level 3 or 4 in freeze. I do have a frost weapon somewhere. I am using the singing sword now and have charms in it. I also have some poison in it.
Where is Shrimpos tombstone? Is it in the graveyard where that Duke Ferrols ghost was? There were several headstones that had names on them, but not Shrimpo. frown
I have 3 parts of the treasure map, and just got the dwarf to join the council. The only one that is not in the council is the Elf and I don't know how I am going to defeat Josephina. I also got the armour from that wealthy guy that I robbed in Verdistis. I paid off the debt. One thing is that I did the quest for the grain, but it isn't showing up as being done. I also bought part of the treasure map from the merchant whose wagon burnt down in Verditis. I can go to the wishing well and level up again.
I have two piles of money in my inventory. Tons of potions, charms, and other stuff. I have so much that I have piles of things left at the council, and at 2 homes in Aleroth. I don't even care if I take anymore items unless they are needed for a quest. I can set up my own store. laugh I haven't had to buy any armour because what I have found is better than what I can buy. I have 5 lockpicking skills, level 5 fixing armour skills.
There is a door in one of the exits from the sewers in Verditis that I can't open because I don't have the key and lock picking doesn't open it. There is also a place where it looks like I should get in, but can't. It is a room in the sewers of Verditis that has two iron type gates but neither of them open. Have you seen that room?
Why can't you save over your saves?
I have tons of saves, but have saved over alot also.
Is there a way to send a saved game to someone? Each save has a separate folder and it is huge! It won't email even if I try to send individual parts of the save.
Thanks again for your help.

Search for stones in one big circle from dead people which are related to sea or seafood. Check the first letter of their name on each gravestone. Start clicking on a grave with a "S", end with a "O". Guess what it gives?

In the very same dungeon under Aleroth where you found those orbs must be three bloodred pentagrams. Put the orbs in and a door will open.

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/16/03 02:56 AM

Thanks, Thorun! Norma, the blade with freeze will work better against Josephina then the singing sword (sorry Singer). See if you can't take the black potion, get right next to her, then hit her with the freeze blade so she can't conjure anything, and then hit her with a blind spell. Do you have anything like hail? That's what I used, but I first had to get her stopped, and freezing her with that blade is probably the easiest way. Then keep hitting her with that spell, or keep hacking away at her - just keep trying, because you'll do it. Try and see what happens, and we'll go from there, ok?
There is a door from the sewers that you can't open - it goes into the castle.
As far as not getting credit on the grain quest - may be a bug, or could be that you didn't talk to the people in the order the game wanted you to.
About leveling up in blind - see how it works for you at the level you have first. As a wizard I maxed the disc spell, and it worked great, and is really fun to watch. But it doesn't work at lower levels very well. Disc is different though, when you have it at the highest level, it covers more ground.
You can of course, save over your saves. I gave that advice to Ingie who was just starting - if you find out you've made a mistake, you can't go back and redo it as easily if you have saved over it several times.
Posted By: Norma

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/16/03 03:52 AM

Thanks so much Thorun and Nickie. Can't wait to get home to try your suggestions. I don't have disc, but have hail. I will add discs and more hail. I will also do the holy grail/holy water quest and level up with the wishing well so can have more points. I haven't tried zipping the file. I can probably save it to a cd and send it.
How many points should I put in constitution?
Posted By: nickie

Re: Divine Divinity-New Thread (sorry) - 03/16/03 08:58 AM

If I were you, I would put everything into intelligence, since you're playing as a wizard, but no doubt other people will have different ideas. But your intelligence points aren't very high, and you need more to do more spells.

Norma: Is that the room that has some treasure chests in it? If so, you can get in it. You need to have both teleporters on you, place one on the ground in front of the gate and throw the other one beyond the gate. Be careful of one of the treasure chests, it seems to permanently turn you into an animal (I believe a frog). Unlike the statuettes, you can not turn back into human form and thus cannot escape this room, so if you want to try it, be sure to save before hand.

The saves in this game compress greatly, about 75% compression. Since there are unlimited saves, I would advise you to never write over a save (it can sometimes cause save file corruption problems) . If you don't have enough room becaause of the huge size, either delete, compress or put on the saves on a CD-R.

I will go back and get my other teleporter stone and level up more in magic. smile
